Parallels' Windows virtualization goes mobile with iOS app



There's already a number of options available to virtually run Windows applications on your iPhone or iPad (even ESPN is doing it), but users of the recently released Parallels Desktop 6 for Mac now have what looks to be a particularly seamless option at their disposal. That comes in the form of Parallels Mobile, which will work on the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch, and will let you access any virtual Windows machine running on a Mac that's using Parallels Desktop 6. Head on past the break to check it out in action, and go grab the app in the App Store right now -- it's free, but you'll have to shell out $80 for its desktop counterpart.

Einstein brings Newton OS to the iPhone, handwriting recognition and all



Palm OS on the iPhone? Check. Android on the iPhone? Quasi-check. Newton OS on the iPhone? As of today, that's a trio of affirmations. Developer Matthias Melcher has wisely used a good bit of his free time to port one of the world's forgotten-but-not-forgotten operating systems onto Apple's iOS  platform, and while things are understandably sluggish right now, he's currently working on performance optimizations that'll hopefully have it running like a clock before long. He's also made the source code available to anyone willing to tinker with the emulator, and somehow or another, he's even managed to bring over the much-hyped handwriting recognition aspect.

Covert Brings Private Browsing (Pr0n Mode) to Safari on iPhone and iPod touch


A new tweak which goes by the name of “Covert” is now available on Cydia which brings private browsing to Mobile Safari browser on iPhone and iPod touch. When active, this feature will mask your browsing trail from anyone who might later use your phone to check out browser’s history, cookies and other data.
The best thing about Covert is that it integrates right into Mobile Safari browser so that you don’t have to install a separate browser just to use this privacy feature. You can simply tap the “Tabs” button found on the bottom right toolbar of the browser, and then tap on “Private Browsing” to start a new private session. When the feature is active, UI of the browser will change into gray color to indicate that any site you visit now wont be traced.

Gangstar: Miami Vindication hits iPhone



Gameloft releases its sequel to the iPhone game sensation Gangstar: West Coast Hustle tomorrow (23 September 2010), and, like its predecessor, Gangstar: Miami Vindication owes a lot to the Grand Theft Auto franchise. This time, GTA: Vice City offers inspiration.

Based in Miami, the new iPhone app even improves on its prequel by allowing the player to fly helicopters, ride motorbikes and zip around on a jet-ski or two.

It also makes use of the greater resolution afforded by Retina displays (which nigh-on guarantees that an iPad version will shortly follow). And one of the screenwriters of the superb crime drama The Wire has helped craft a detailed, multi-layered plot.

Some reports suggest that the app has already arrived on New Zealand's iTunes (at midnight), so we can expect to see it on the UK store at 24:00 tonight, for £3.99. Well, one second past, anyway - which fits with its release date.
