ISRO's Onam Gift To India, Successfully Launches GSLV-D6 with GSAT-6 Satellite

Update: The Indian Space Research Organisation has got successful rocket launches down to an art. And today’s launch of GSLV-D6 with the GSAT-6 satellite is proof. The satellite is heavier than the last GSAT class satellite launched from Sriharikota by ISRO, which makes this launch even more important. The peak speed reached by the rocket was more than 9 km/sec that took the satellite to the Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit. The indigenous cryogenic top stage burnt for 720 seconds to make this a landmark launch. This launch also confirmed that India has successfully mastered the crucial cryogenic technology which is important for India if it has to compete in the global satellite launch market.
GSLV
ISRO
The Indian Space Research Organisation has made the country proud on a number of occasions. Today was no different. With the successful launch of PSLV-C28, ISRO made the nation proud with this historic achievement.
Heaviest commercial mission ever undertaken by ISRO

Indian space agency ISRO successfully launched its heaviest commercial mission, the PSLV-C28, from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota. With a load of over 1440kg, the PSLV-C28 rocket successfully launched all five British satellites on-board. Among the five satellites, three are identical DMC3 optical earth observation satellites, built by Surrey Satellite Technology Limited (SSTL), United Kingdom, and two auxiliary satellites.

The Mars Orbiter Mission
Mars Orbiter Mission was the first time ever that any country successfully reached the Red Planet on the first attempt. That it was one of the more economically viable space missions anywhere in the world caught global attention.

GSLV Mk3
The recent test of the crew module aboard the GSLV Mk3 put India in a special group of space fairing nations.

Here are some of the future projects:
1. Reusable space plane
RLV-TD
RLV: The Reusable Launch Vehicle (RLV) is India’s reusable space vehicle which ISRO hopes to use to reduce satellite launch costs. It looks like the American space shuttle, but it won’t be manned and will be mounted on top of a rocket to form a Two Stage To Orbit (TSTO). The test of the RLV-TD (Technology Demonstrator) is scheduled in the coming months, which will see the prototype reach an altitude of 70 km before gliding back for a splash down in the Bay of Bengal. The next test will be a landing test on a 2 km long runway after being dropped from a height of 5 km. Once operational, the RLV will land on a runway like a regular aircraft after it deploys the payload into orbit. Currently there isn’t a 5 km long runway in the country that the RLV will require, but it is expected to come up near Sriharikota, the home of India’s space programme.
2. Launching humans into space
Crew Module
Manned Space Flight Programme: ISRO killed two birds with one stone when the GSLV Mk3 test with an inert cryogenic stage took off with the CARE (Crew Module Atmospheric Re-entry Experiment) on 18 December 2014. The module reached an altitude of 80 km and made a successful splash down in the sea using the largest parachutes ever made in the country. Once operational, the crew module will host up to three Indian astronauts for orbital missions lasting up to a week in space. It will make India only the fourth nation in the world after Russia, US and China to have the ability to send humans into space. Maybe even to the moon one day. The Air Force will most likely be tasked with training and selection of the astronauts, and according to ISRO the schedule for sending the first Indian on an Indian rocket is planned for 2021. For this, the GSLV Mk3 will have to be man-rated – it has to demonstrate a set number of continuous successful launches.
3. Bigger rockets
GSLV Mk4
GSLV Mk4: The global satellite industry revenues stood around $195 billion in 2013. And if India is to play a role here, it will need bigger and heavier rockets to launch heavier payloads into space. The GSLV Mk3 that is under development has a capacity to lift up to 4 tonnes into GTO (Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit – where all the communication satellites have to reach to reach the 36,000 km circular orbit). The next step though is likely to be named GSLV Mk4 which will be able to lift 6.5 tonnes. It is what ISRO will require if it is to send Indians to the moon as has been reported. The Mk3 will form the basis for the launch vehicle which will use four instead of two S200 solid rocket boosters, currently the second most powerful solid rockets in the world. The first stage with two Vikas Engines may give way to the quad engine stage.
4. Back to the moon
Lunar rover
Defenceforumindia.com
Chandrayaan-2: India’s Chandrayaan mission was responsible for the discovery of water on the moon, which was it’s biggest accomplishment. A second Chandrayaan mission is in the works and will include a lander and rover along with the orbiter. The mission, which was supposed to be developed in collaboration with the Russian space agency, is now being developed in-house. The orbiter of the Chandrayaan-2 will have five instruments and will weigh around 1,400 kg. The mission lander will make a soft landing and release the rover which is designed to collect lunar soil samples and analyse them. The mission is set for launch in 2017.
5. Navigation system
Navigation sattelite
ISRO
IRNSS: ISRO is also working on India’s own satellite navigation system which will be independent of the US controlled GPS system. Called the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS), one of the reasons for its development is the US denial of GPS data during the Kargil conflict. The IRNSS will offer standard positioning system for civilian use like for aircraft navigation. A special Restricted Service will allow users like armed forces who demand higher accuracy of coordinates. The system will comprise 7 satellites of which four are in orbit already. The last one is due for a launch in the middle of next year.

11 Simple Lessons From The Bhagavad Gita That Are All You Need To Know About Life

When a confused Arjuna turned to his charioteer, Lord Krishna, for advice at the Kurukshetra, Lord Krishna stated some rational philosophical concepts that are relevant even today. Bhagavad Gita is an epic scripture that has the answers to all our problems. It was considered a spiritual dictionary by Mahatma Gandhi and was a book of inspiration for many leaders of the Independence movement. Take a look at some of these life lessons you can use from the Gita to bring your life back on the right track.

1. Whatever happened, happened for the good. Whatever is happening, is happening for the good. Whatever will happen, will also happen for the good.
worry
So get over it. Whatever you’re sulking about, forget it. The job interview that didn’t go well, or the relationship that didn’t work was bound to happen and it happened. Everything happens for a reason. There is a reason you’re going through a bad phase and there is a reason you might be basking in glory - it’s a cycle and you need to quietly accept it. You need not worry about the future, nor should you pay attention to the past. You only have control over the present, so live it to the fullest.

2. You have the right to work, but never to the fruit of work.
quotes
‘Karm karo, phal ki chinta mat karo’ is the wisest message the Bhagwad Gita gives us. Today, we are working only for money, a better house, a car, and for a secure future. We are so goal-driven, that we do everything only on thinking about the results. For instance, we all work extra hours during our appraisal time, thinking that our bosses will rate us highly on our performance evaluation. This is something we need to avoid. Only because, if expectations are not met, pain is inevitable. Therefore, keep working and don’t expect anything in return.

3. Change is the law of the universe. You can be a millionaire, or a pauper in an instant.
change
How true! Nothing is permanent in our lives. The earth keeps revolving, it does not stay stable; the day ends and the night follows; after humid summers follow relieving monsoons. This reinforces the fact that impermanence is the law of the universe. Therefore being proud of your wealth is a sign of immaturity, because it can vanish into thin air in a minute. Accepting change makes you coherent enough to face any tough situations in your life.

4. The soul is neither born, and nor does it die
Bhagwad gita
We can achieve nothing if fear is instilled within us. Fear kills ambition, dreams and even the slight chances of progress. A fearless soul has nothing to worry about, because it knows it cannot be caged, and nor can it be stopped. Thus, the fear of death is absurd, as our souls don’t die. Fear and worry are two enemies, that are deterrents to our well-being. We must strive to eradicate them from our minds completely.

5. You came empty handed, and you will leave empty handed.
Gita
We get so attached to material things that we often forget that we won’t be taking them with us to the grave. We came stark naked into this world, and we will go without taking anything to our graves. Not even our phones! Attachment to material things is something we need to pay attention to, because we don’t possess things - things start possessing us.

6. Lust, anger and greed are the three gates to self-destructive hell.
hell
Kama, krodh and lobh have done us no good. Unreasonable craving for sex will turn you into a pervert, anger will drive people away from you and greed will never let you be satisfied.

7. Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.
gita
You are what you think you are. Your thoughts make and define you. If you think you’re a happy person, you become happy. If you let sad thoughts take over your mind, you tend to become a sad person. If you feel that you will nail a presentation in a meeting, then chances are that you will. However, if you’re not prepared and feel nervous then you might make a blunder.

8. When meditation is mastered, the mind is unwavering like the flame of a lamp in a windless place.
candle
We consider meditation boring. Who can sit still with their eyes closed and without vile thoughts? But we truly need to take out a few minutes from our busy schedules and sit in dhyana to attain inner peace. Whether it's a quiet corner of our cosy home, or just a secluded spit in office, closing your eyes and sitting in peace will give you immense peace of mind.

9. There is neither this world, nor the world beyond.  nor happiness for the one who doubts.
bhagwad
Doubts create misunderstandings. They confuse you and fog your mind with unclear thoughts. They also bring indecisiveness and make you a coward. For instance, if you’re in a relationship and if you have doubts about your partner’s loyalty and love then you will never be able to take your relationship further. Love has no doubts. If it does, then it’s not love.

10. We’re kept from our goal not by obstacles, but by a clear path to a lesser goal.
qyuotes
'Dream big' is the message here. If you’re dreaming about buying a house, you can’t keep it on hold by dreaming about a motorcycle. Although small goals are important, forgetting your ultimate goal will only stunt your growth. Don’t settle for less, strive hard to achieve the bigger goals.
11. A person can rise through the efforts of his own mind; or draw himself down, in the same manner. Because each person is his own friend or enemy.
man
You’re your own best friend. If you have a problem, only you will have a solution to it, and not your friend. To find answers to your questions, you will have to look within. Seeking suggestions from ten different people who you call ‘friends’ is not going to help because they have ten solutions to one problem, whereas your solution is the ultimate answer. Believe in yourself.

After Fake Watches, Cars And Handbags, China Now Comes Up With A Fake Goldman Sachs!

China has been accused of pirating movies, handbags, Rolexes — even cars. Add Goldman Sachs to the list.
Goldman Sachs (Shenzhen) Financial Leasing Co. has been operating in the city just across the border from Hong Kong using a nearly identical English and Chinese name as the New York-based financial institution, Goldman Sachs Group Inc. It claims on its website to be one of the city's largest financial leasing firms. A receptionist answering the phone at the Shenzhen company who declined to give her name said it's not affiliated with the U.S. bank and wouldn't offer how it got its name, emphasising it includes Shenzhen. It's the first time she's been asked the question, she said.
image
A filing with the Shenzhen government indicates the company has been operating since May 2013. The company uses the same Chinese characters, gao sheng, as the real Goldman Sachs, and its English font is evocative of the U.S. bank's. Connie Ling, a Hong Kong-based spokeswoman for Goldman Sachs, confirmed there are no ties between the US investment bank and the Shenzhen company and said Goldman is looking into the matter.
It's not the only bank facing brazen name-borrowing. In a more extreme example, a 39-year-old man in eastern China's Shandong province was arrested earlier in August after setting up a fake branch of China Construction Bank, including card readers, teller counters and signs, according to the Xinhua news agency. Shenzhen's Goldman Sachs came to light through a letter sent by a U.S. casino workers union to Chinese officials. The International Union of Operating Engineers said it sent a letter to Wang Qishan, head of the Chinese Communist Party's Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, which is spearheading the biggest anti-corruption crackdown in decades.
Money Laundering
The letter called on China's government to investigate Goldman Sachs (Shenzhen), which it said is a financial services company linked to a group of gambling companies controlled by the family of Cheung Chi-tai. Prosecutors in at least two other court cases alleged he has ties to Chinese organized crime gangs, known as triads. Cheung is awaiting trial and his next court appearance is scheduled for September. Cheung is a prominent figure in Macau junkets, which facilitates loans to Chinese high rollers in the only Chinese territory where gambling is legal. Casino revenue has fallen as China's anti-corruption drive has affected junkets.
"Macau's current gambling regulatory structure we believe is ill-equipped to monitor and adequately regulate a junket's outside partnerships and financing arrangements," Jeffrey Fiedler, the U.S. union representative, said in the Aug. 25 letter.
Possible Ties
The union has been trying to pressure Chinese and US regulators to investigate Macau, where American casinos such as Las Vegas Sands Corp. have big operations, for possible ties to organized crime and money laundering. Three phone calls to the office of the CCDI in Beijing went unanswered. An operator with CCDI's hotline for public reporting said she's not familiar with the case. The company's office is located in a relatively new gleaming high-rise office park along a tree-lined street on the western fringe of Shenzhen, a former fishing village turned global manufacturing powerhouse.
Gold Control
The union said the Shenzhen company is controlled by a Hong Kong-based gold trader unaffiliated with the investment bank. Its connection to Cheung is through relatives, the letter said. The Shenzhen Goldman Sachs's website was inaccessible as of Wednesday, though it could be viewed in screen grabs captured by the union.
"There have been quite a few cases where Chinese individuals or organisations have registered in China the trademark of an existing and established overseas brand," Paul Haswell, a Hong Kong-based partner at law firm Pinsent Masons, said in an e-mail. If history is any guide, Goldman doesn't have much chance of changing its Shenzhen doppelganger. Basketball legend Michael Jordan lost a case against a Chinese sportswear company that used the Chinese version of his name.
Apple Inc. paid $60 million to settle a trademark dispute with a Chinese company that had applied to block the sale of iPad computer tablets in 2012. "It's notoriously difficult for an overseas claimant to persuade the Chinese courts that there has been trademark infringement," said Haswell. "There's still a practice of whoever registers first wins."

7 Unforgettable Real Life Love Stories From History That Are Immortal

Souvik Ray
August 30, 2015
facebook twitter mail twitter gplus 1.5k Shares
History is filled with love stories that have been recorded through the ages and surprisingly nothing much has changed. The love these people had for their special someone might have been mere gossip in their day but it survived time in the form of changing the course of history and leaving monuments in memory of one another.

1. Baji Rao and Mastani
Having inspired the upcoming film starring Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone, the story of Peshwa Baji Rao is not complete without his absolute bewitchment (in a good way) by Mastani. Her origins are unconfirmed as are most facts in Indian history. Some believed she was a Hyderabadi princess while others thought of her as a court dancer. Despite opposition from his clan, he married her for who she was. Mastani committed ritual suicide after he died in battle.

2. Cleopatra and Mark Anthony
Cleopatra is best remembered as Egypt's last Pharaoh even though she ruled in alliance with her male relatives. Remembered in history as the most beautiful woman, she managed to charm two of the most powerful men in the world. Cleopatra fell in love with Mark Anthony after the death of Julius Caesar and their relationship lasted 11 years. In 41 B.C, Anthony took his life on receiving false news of his lover's death, while Octavian led the Roman army into conquering Egypt and refusing to fall prey to Cleopatra's charm. Cleopatra took her life by inducing an asp bite in her.

3. Bonnie and Clyde
If you're wondering what inspired Bunty Aur Babli, it was Bonnie and Clyde. They were robbers and con artists in the United States during the Great Depression and left the police reeling in their pursuit. Although it would have been far from a love story in those days. What is surprising is Bonnie stood by Clyde no matter how many crimes they committed together.
They were finally ambushed by the police when they were betrayed by their gang members. Bonnie got her death wish when she died on her partner's lifeless body.

4. Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal
One of the best known Mughal emperors in Indian history after his grandfather Akbar, Shah Jahan had three wives, his favourite being Mumtaz Mahal. She died during child birth while delivering their 14th child. In memory of her last words, he built her a mausoleum to etch their love for eternity. The Taj Mahal still stands today reminding us of a husband's love.

5. Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson
In 1931, the heir to the English throne, Edward of Wales met Wallis Simpson, an American divorcee and it was love at first sight. When his father died in 1936, Edward became king and was unable to discharge his duties properly with his plans of marrying Ms. Simpson, something that would shake the very foundations of the monarchy, the church and the British Parliament. Left with no choice, he abdicated his throne to his brother, George VI, and married Wallis. Many labelled her as a gold digger as she was divorced twice, but to Edward she was "the perfect woman". They lived in exile in France under the titles of "Duke and Duchess of Windsor".

6. Pierre and Marie Curie
The two scientists met in Paris when Marie was a student in France. She rejected Pierre's proposal as she wanted to return to Poland. However he was willing to follow her even if it meant being a French teacher there.
The couple married a year later and made several breakthroughs in science like discovering elements like radium and polonium and winning the Nobel prize for discovering radioactivity.

7. Queen Victoria and Prince Albert
The young Victoria was absolutely smitten when she met Albert, a German prince, who also happened to be a distant relative. During their married life they showcased themselves as a middle class family, focusing on domestic values and self sufficiency. After having 9 children and being married for 21 years, Albert died of influenza in 1861 leaving his wife devastated. She withdrew from public life. The woman who popularized the white wedding dress became known as the monarch in black, wearing her mourning dress and her widow's veil.

However there are other cross border routes that are absolutely scenic, enough to give you an adventure of a lifetime.

1. Kolkata to Thimphu

Distance: approximately 900 km
Time taken: 20 hours
It is definitely a task to get your documents in order if you plan to visit the Bhutanese capital by vehicle. The gateway to Bhutan is a checkpoint at Phuentsholing, the last stop being Siliguri near Darjeeling.

Be warned, the road can be severely bumpy at places both in West Bengal and the happiest country in Asia.

2. Delhi to Shangri-La (in China, not the hotel)

Distance: 4000 km
Time taken: 60-70 hours
This trip takes you from the plains of Northern India to the foothills of the Himalayas, through Nepal and into China. Passing Agra and on towards Chitwan National Park, this tedious drive will take you through Kathmandu, the Everest Base camp and into Lhasa, the capital of Tibet. From Lhasa is another long leg that might just get you to seventh heaven.

Sadly it can take 4-5 months for travellers to obtain a permit to drive in China.

3. Mumbai to Colombo

Distance: 2000 km
Time taken: 25 hours
Thanks to the drive-in ferry connecting Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu to Colombo, it is possible to drive to Sri Lanka now! Begin your journey in the capital and drive your way around the tear shaped island exploring from Kandy to the Jaffna peninsula.

4. Denver to Alaska

Distance: 5000 km
Time taken: 54 hours
There's nothing more epic than driving from one part of the USA to another while crossing an international border. The route takes you through the dry mid west from Denver to Montana, across the border into Canada. As you drive through the plush greenery of British Columbia towards the Alaskan border, the scenic images are just hard to get out of your mind.

5. Paris to Florence

Distance: 1200 km
Time taken: 13 hours
This journey embodies the Renaissance in itself, as you feel the romance of a classic European holiday. Pass the mustard fields of Dijon, the foothills of the Alps in Chamonix and drive into the rustic countryside of Tuscany. From the fashion capital of Milan, head further down towards the city where legends like Da Vinci once lived, Florence. If you're lucky, then you might just see the Duomo by sunset.

6. Lima (Peru) to Rio De Janeiro

Distance: 4500 km
Time taken: 59 hours
On the Transoceanic highway, experience the best roads in south America as you drive along the country side of three countries - Peru, Bolivia and Brazil. The highway was built to better trade between the coasts of the continent and indeed it has. Be ready to have a blast once you arrive in Rio and remember to brush up on your Spanish and Portuguese.

7. Beijing to Astana (Kazakhstan)

Distance: 5300 km
Time taken: 80 hours
This route will take you from the northern regions of China, to the Gobi dessert of Mongolia, through the Tundra forests of the Russian border and finally to Astana.

7 Signs That Prove Indian Culture Celebrates The Philosophy Of Taking Breaks More Than Any Other In The World!

We Indians love taking a break. Be it between a boring lecture or an office meeting we know how to cut off and make the most of our breaks. Infact if "Taking A Break" was an Olympic sport, we would probably win gold hands down. Here's proof

1. We love breaks so much, we have a word for it. Goans call it "Susegad"

This Train Station In Kerala Uses Flowers Grown In Recycled Plastic Bottles To Help Prevent Accidents

Aluva is a quaint little town in the Ernakulam district of Kerala, but it's now known for something you wouldn't visualise on an Indian train station.

Neha Venkatesh was transiting through the station when she noticed plastic bottles painted yellow and white with China Rose flowers growing out of them.

She later found out that it was the efforts of the Station Master and the Health Inspector whose plan was threefold: to recycle plastic bottles thrown out of train compartments, to beautify the station and to discourage people from crossing over the tracks.

If you do travel by train, you would have noticed several callous fools tossing plastic water bottles out of the window, thereby littering the tracks beneath. These bottles are collected by the cleaning staff and are then used to grow flowers.

The bottles are then suspended from the barricades separating the tracks which not only add a decorative effect but prevent people from crossing the tracks to get to the opposite platform.

"These plants don’t leave much space for people to cross through, thereby encouraging them to use the foot over bridge to cross over to another platform", Neha shares.

This cost effective and environmentally friendly initiative should be an example for bigger stations across India that are an absolute eyesore when it comes to cleanliness. Step aside politicians and Bollywood stars, this is what we would call setting an example for a Swacch Bharat.
