Nose Spikes For SC 250 Stabo.
Construction: Stabo bombs have athreaded lug forged to the nose of the case. Stabo spikes screw on to this threaded lug.The same spike fits SC 50 and SD 70 and is of one-piece construction.The SC 250 and SC 500 Stabo spikes have an additional piece, a pressure plate, which fits between the bomb case and spike to increase the rigidity. The spikes are used in low altitude attacks to prevent ricochet. A 1-cm hole through the spike allows use of a bar to screw spike securely to bomb. REMARKS: Stachebomben, or "Stabo" for short, are used in low altitude attacks to ensure the bomb does not ricochet. The SC 250 and SC 500 are both two fuze pocket bombs and fuzing is usually a time fuze 17 or 57 and an antidisturbance fuze (50). The SC 50 Stabo and SD Stabo are normally fuzed with a (55).
Discs fitting on the end of these spikes have been found. It is thought
nose switches have been used to give instantaneous action.

Construction:
All bombs in the SD 500 series are of one-piece drawn steel construction. The main difference between the three modifications is the variation in wall thickness. One transverse fuze pocket is located aft of the suspension band. To insure high order detonation, a central exploder tube has been inserted longitudinally through the explosive cavity. The tail unit is constructed of sheet steel and has a ring type strut. The unit is secured to the bomb in the same manner as the tail on the SC 1000 bomb. A parachute type tail unit for this bomb has been found. This unit is composed of a detachable sheet metal parachute container, open lattice type parachute, and a standard base plate with an additional web and ring of cast steel spot welded together to form an anchorage for the parachute shackles. (Only one such unit has been found)

Heinkel He-115 mnogo je koriscen za postavljanje mina. Na sl.1 su prikazani razni nacini miniranja iz He-115, kao i presek aviona sa vidnim smestakem mina, koje su izbacivane sa padobranom.

Airborne Parachute Mines
Airborne mines were successfully tested in 1931 and acoustic and magnetic mines were developed before the war started).

LMA (British designation GD) - sl.2, 3 i 4.
Magnetic mine captured by the British in July 1940.  Later fitted with acoustic or acoustic/magnetic triggers.  Weight 1,213 lbs. (550 kg) with a charge of 661 lbs. (300 kg).  Had a 22 second delay impact fuze which detonated the mine if it fell in shallow water or dry land.  An earlier version was designated by the British as GA.

LMB (British designation GC)
Magnetic and acoustic mines.  Late in 1944 some were fitted with pressure/acoustic triggers.  Weight of 2,116 lbs. (960 kg) with a 1,554 lbs. (705 kg) charge.  LMB/S was introduced in 1943 for S-boats.  A later version was designated by the British as GB.

German mines of World War II were all designated by letters, the first two indicating the function and the third the series designation within that category, usually indicating a modification.  The function codes were:

BM - Airborne mines laid without parachutes
EM - Moored Contact mines.  Mostly Hertz Horns.
FM - Shallow water contact mines, mostly moored types.
KM - Anti-invasion coastal mines
LM - Airborne parachute mines
MT - Ground mine torpedoes laid from torpedo tubes
OM - Surface mines
RM - Shore-controlled or independent ground mines
SM - Moored magnetic mines laid from mine tubes on U-Boats
TM - Magnetic (influence) mines laid from torpedo tubes
UM - ASW contact mines

Evo originalnih informacija o tome kako su Englezi  prvo izvestavali a potom definitivno potvrdili sebi da Nemci bacaju mine iz vazduha:

To the peril of offshore mines, anchored or floating, now was added the peril of mines laid right on shoal bottoms (therefore almost impossible to sweep), equipped with magnetic triggers which a steel hull passing over would sway to make electrical contact*.""

During the night came the first definite evidence that enemy mines were being laid from the air, when aircraft believed to be Heinkel He 115s operating from bases in the islands of Sylt and Borkum were seen to drop mines in the Humber and in the estuaries of the Stour and the Thames. Observers reported that the mines looked like sailors kit-bags suspended from a parachute. The shipping on all three rivers was held up until the secrets of the new German magnetic mine was revealed by Lieutenant Commander Ouvry and his team shortly afterwards. Degaussing gear was not long in following to counter the threat."

"The Germans never attacked Port Suez or any of our large depots. The only action they did take was to lay magnetic mines by aircraft. They only did this at night. Their purpose was to sink the Allied supply ships and make the canal impossible to use"
