The Cuusoo concept phone that you see here heralds from Japan, boasting a detachable screen portion that allows one to hold video phone calls on-the-go. I'm surprised with the technology that we have at the moment, something like this has not been realized yet. I presume that battery issues could be the main stumbling block though, since a screen does sip a significant amount of juice, even more so when it needs to transmit data wirelessly from the main handset. I like the way different attachments can be added to the concept handset, allowing one to turn it into a widescreen display or a dual screen viewer.

Nokia planira prodaju 35 miliona telefona sa GPS-om do kraja godine



CEO Nokije, Olli-Pekka Kallasvu, smatra da će Nokia do kraja 2008. prodati preko 35 miliona telefona opremljenih GPS-om, što je jednako ukupnom broju prodatih GPS uređaja na globalnom tržištu prošle godine.

Nokijini planovi su svakako usmereni u daljem razvoju i popularizaciji GPS telefona, o čemu svedoči i 8 milijardi evra teška akvizicija Navteq-a, tako da su planovi kompanije definitivno da to maksimalno iskoristi. Nokia je nedavno izdala novu verziju svog Nokia Maps programa, i uz druge servise, poput Nokia Step Counter-a ili Nokia Sports Tracker-a, takođe nudi i online maps servis na Ovi-ju.

U ponudi već ima par vrhunskih GPS telefona - 6110 i 6210 Navigatore, N78, N82, N96, kao i popularne N95 i N95 8GB, i svakako treba očekivati mnogo veći procenat uređaja sa ugrađenim GPS-om u bližoj budućnosti.

1) The ringtone "Nokia tune" is actually based on a 19th century guitar work named "Gran Vals" by Spanish musician Francisco Tárrega. The Nokia Tune was originally named "Grande Valse" on Nokia phones but was changed to "Nokia Tune" around 1998 when it became so well known that people referred to it as the "Nokia Tune."

Could WWDC 2008 see launch of dedicated Apple handheld gaming console?

Forget all those 3G iPhone rumors. Apple’s known to never announce something that’s lame in itself anyway. There’s always something in Apple announcements, keynotes, and launches that adds something new. And if the only thing the iPhone is getting by June this year (or September, at the very latest) is 3G network support, then that would ruin Apple’s track record of innovation. Don’t you think something else is more important than that the iPhone is finally going to become 3G-enabled?

WWDC, after all, is an event for developers. “DC” at the end of it doesn’t mean “Developers Conference” for nothing. And taking that into consideration, it’s unlikely that an announcement of 3G network support would get punters, and especially the developers themselves, as excited as if Apple had announced the launching of a new handheld gaming console instead.


If you’ve ever held hands on a jailbroken iPhone or iPod Touch, you’ll know what I’m talking about. The multi-touch UI set up on the iPhone or iPod Touch seems like the perfect input and manipulation system for games. Except maybe for the lack of tactile feedback with each key press and the glare produced by the shiny, glass screen, multi-touch could possibly be the next best thing in gaming.

And as shown by Nintendo’s popular DS (dual-screen) gaming console, there is huge potential to be had from games applying the physics of multi-touch.

In any case, the possibility that Apple might announce the launch of a new handheld gaming system in the next-gen iPhone or iPod Touch (iPlay?) would fall pretty nicely into all the fuss that’s been happening lately. Other than getting developers to start on their engines, this would also mark Apple’s foray into the handheld gaming console market, which Sony and Nintendo currently rule. iPlay or not, it’s a logical next step, given the power of Mobile OS X as showcased on Apple’s last keynote where sample games were demoed.

We’ll be keeping an eye out for this and come back with more answers, or questions, to ponder upon. But for now, I say aye to a dedicated Apple handheld gaming console.

Stigao novi "telefon sa dušom"

Samsung SGH-U900 Soul poseduje dosta "high-tech" stvarčica upakovanih u metalnu kutiju: kamera od 5 megapiksela (sa autofokusom); "touchpad" kontroler sa OLED pozadinskim osvetljenjem... a namenjen je prvenstveno tržištu Evrope.

Kada je sklopljen/zatvoren, na prednjoj strani telefona dominira QVGA TFT ekran veličine 2.2 inča. Ekran pruža prilično oštre i pune boje. OLED ekran, koji je smešten ispod glavnog displeja, jedna je od najinteresantnijih komponenti ovog telefona. Displej nudi zadivljujući kontrast, a tu je i efekat vibracije pri dodiru ekrana.

Samsung je, u saradnji sa Verizonom (mrežnim operaterom iz Sjedinjenih Američkih Država), predstavio novi mobilni telefon pod nazivom Glyde.

Glyde poseduje klizeću QWERTY tastaturu i ekran osetljiv na dodir veličine 2.78 inča koji pruža sliku rezolucije 240 x 440 piksela. Kamera od 2 megapiksela poseduje opciju digitalnog zumiranja i mogućnost snimanja video zapisa.

Ugrađena memorija iznosi 150 megabajta, a dodatna se može obezbediti preko slota za Micro SD kartice. Konektivnost je CDMA Dual Band (800/1900MHz) sa 3G podrškom, a dodatak je i ugrađeni GPS i podrška za Bluetooth.

Cena Samsung Glyde telefona iznosi oko 250 američkih dolara.

Nokia će naručivati kamere od Samsunga?



Digitimes piše da je Nokia izabrala Samsung za njihovog glavnog dobavljača 5 Mpx CMOS kamera za njihove mid-end telefone. Do sada je Nokia koristila kamere švajcarskog STMicroelectronics-a, ali su sada odlučili okrenuti se Samsungu, čiji su senzori kvalitetniji.

Nokia će i dalje naručivati senzore za svoje high-end telefone od kompanija poput OmniVision-a i Aptina-e, specijalizovanih za tu namenu.

Imajući sve ovo u vidu, verovatno ćemo uskoro očekivati kvalitetnije telefone srednjeg cenovnog ranga sa kamerama od 5 Mpx umesto, do sada standardnih, 3 Mpx ili čak manje. To će takođe verovatno značiti da ćemo videti još bolje kamere kod vrhunskih Nokijinih uređaja, sa više megapiksela, a moguće i optičkim zumom.
