Take a Look at Facebook's Redesigned Timeline

Facebook is testing a new Timeline design. Currently live in New Zealand, the new look brings a slimmed down toolbar to the top of profile pages and repositions other content.

First spotted by The Next Web, we had a friend in New Zealand grab some screenshots of the update for us so we could take a closer look.

Check out the two photos below. The top is the new design, while the bottom is the older version:

The toolbar at the top of the page is where the most drastic of the changes takes place. Where there are currently large photographic tiles, there are now just text buttons for your About information, Friends, and Photos.

Maps and Subscriber information are removed from the top of the page. Subscriber info is now made available in a new About widget at the top of the screen, while Map info is restricted to the Places widget on your Timeline. Photos also have a new home on the left side of the page, where nine photos are shown in a square (currently Facebook shows eight pictures in a rectangle).



Timeline navigation moves to the top right of the screen, swapping places with the ads that currently reside there.

Likes and App information are now centralized on the left side of your profile page, while status update are placed on the right. Notes are also given a new prominent placement.



Perhaps the most noteworthy change in the redesign comes in the form of advertisements. Owen Williams shared with us that now when you share a link on Facebook, a prompt to Like the page for the company you're posting about is automatically added. For instance, in the photo below, Williams posted a link to a Mashable story, and a link prompting readers to Like Mashable on Facebook was added to the bottom.



It's important to note that Facebook is likely using New Zealand as a testing ground for the new look. Depending on how those tests go, we may not see the new design come to the U.S.

Facebook's 'New Look' May Include Multiple News Feeds

Facebook is planning to make its first major change to the news feed since it launched in 2006, and according to reports, we could see multiple news feeds based on categories, such as Instagram photos and music your friends are listening to and artist updates.

Ahead of the big press event the social network is holding on Thursday, TechCrunch is reporting that, in addition to several news feeds, we'll be seeing larger photos and image-based ads.

Mashable reached out to Facebook for confirmation: "We don't comment on rumor and speculation," a spokesperson said.

If the TechCrunch report is true, the multiple feed feature will be located at the top near the search bar. Although the design is expected to include a photo feed — dedicated to only Facebook and Instagram pictures — as well as one for music, there could be other options dedicated just for news, videos and apps. This would also allow advertisers to target specific interests.

This would make it easier for users to sort through the heavy stream of information hitting news feeds, without hitting repeated content posted by friends. By giving members more categories to sift through, Facebook gives people a greater incentive to spend more time on the site.

Mashable recently reported that a new look for Timeline is already live in New Zealand, featuring a new toolbar at the top of the screen and an about widget below the profile picture. Timeline navigation is also re-positioned at the top right of the page, taking the place of current ads, and shared stories get a like button for that site below the post.

Facebook Unveils a Radically Redesigned News Feed

Facebook announced Thursday that it is giving its venerable News Feed a new look and feel.

The new News Feed represents the first major overhaul of Facebook's core service since the launch of Facebook Timeline at the end of 2011.

"The News Feed is one of the most important things we've built," Facebook co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg said during the press event. Likening News Feed to "the most personalized newspaper," Zuckerberg added that "the stories around you deserve to be displayed with more than just text."

"How we're all sharing is changing and the News Feed needs to evolve with those changes. This is the evolving face of News Feed."

The new News Feed features three major components:

Bigger Images

Multiple Feeds

Mobile Consistency

A New Focus on Imagery
The new look is a radical departure from the Facebook of old. It's mobile-inspired and consistent across devices.

When it comes to the feed itself, the focus on stories is now much more visual. Greater emphasis is given to images — which are now much larger. Photos, which now make up nearly 50% of News Feed stories are now front and center.

If you see shades of Instagram — or Google+ — in the new News Feed, you aren't alone. We see them too. Facebook says it is following trends on where design is headed and it is clear that that trend includes big, immersive photos and a clean, navigable design.

More Feeds, More Control
As for the "feeds" aspect of News Feed, users now have access to more types of feeds and have more control over how those feeds are displayed.

Users can subscribe to different types of feeds, including feeds from all friends, close friends, music, photos, games and those that a user "follows."

And, for those of us who hate how Facebook sorts News Feed content, a chronological view is now available.

It's not clear how these new feeds will affect promoted stories or content or the longer-lasting impact it may have on brands and pages.

Mobile Consistency
The new News Feed design was inspired by mobile. It takes significant cues from the Facebook mobile apps for phones and tablets, adding a new side navigation bar and more white space.

Understanding that more users are accessing Facebook from mobile than ever before, Facebook is focused on making the overall experience more consistent, regardless of platform.

The new News Feed will start rolling out today.

Što se novih profila tiče, koleginica koja ima novi izgled je na srpskom.  

Imam i ja graph search ali radi samo na engleskom, na srpskom ne može.
