CENTAF releases airpower summary for Sept. 13

SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials have released the airpower summary for Sept. 13.

In Afghanistan Sept. 12, Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs provided close-air support for coalition troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Kandahar. The aircraft expended Guided Bomb Unit-12s and cannon rounds on enemy positions, ending the engagement.

French Air Force M-2000 Mirages provided close-air support for coalition troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Shkin.

Navy F-18 Hornets also provided close-air support for coalition troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Kandahar and Ghazni.

Marine Corps AV-8Bs provided close-air support for coalition troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Moqor.

The following close-air-support requests supported NATO forces operating as the International Security Assistance Force, or ISAF, in Afghanistan.

An Air Force B-1 Lancer, A-10s, Marine Corps AV-8Bs, Royal Air Force Harrier GR-7s and French M-2000s provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Lashkar Gah. The B-1 expended GBU-38s and GBU-31s. The GR-7s expended rockets, enhanced Paveway II munitions and a general-purpose 540-pound bomb. The A-10s expended a GBU-12 and cannon rounds. All munitions were expended on enemy positions, ending the engagement.

A-10s provided close-air support for ISAF troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Kandahar. The A-10s expended a GBU-12 and cannon rounds on enemy positions, ending the engagement. A-10s also provided close-air support for ISAF troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Now Zad.

Navy F-18s provided close-air support for ISAF troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Now Zad. The F-18s conducted passes, expending cannon rounds and a GBU-12 on enemy locations, ending the engagement.

RAF GR-7s also provided close-air support for ISAF troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Qalat and Musah Qal'eh. Marine Corps AV-8Bs also provided close-air support for ISAF troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Musah Qal'eh.

Additionally, six Air Force and Navy intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 42 close-air-support missions in support of either OEF or ISAF. These missions included support to coalition, Afghan and ISAF troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

In Iraq, Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons and RAF Tornado GR-4s provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Iskandariyah.

F-16s also provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Baghdad.

Additionally, 18 Air Force, Navy, Army and RAF ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. Air Force fighter aircraft performed two non-traditional ISR roles with their electro-optical and infrared sensors.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 42 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 180 airlift sorties, delivered 590 tons of cargo and transported 4,100 passengers.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Japan and Korea flew in support of OIF or OEF.

On Sept. 11, Air Force, French and RAF tankers flew 40 sorties and off-loaded more than 2.5 million pounds of fuel.

SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials have released the airpower summary for Sept. 19.

In Afghanistan Sept. 18, an Air Force B-1 Lancer, along with Royal Air Force Harrier GR-7s and French Air Force M-2000s provided close-air support for coalition troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Oruzgan. The B-1 expended Guided Bomb Unit-31s and GBU-38s on enemy positions.

Air Force A-10 Thunderbolts and a B-1, along with Navy F/A-18Fs and F/A-18Cs, provided close-air support for coalition troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Khowst.

Air Force A-10s also provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Asadabad.

The following close air support requests supported NATO forces operating as the International Security Assistance Force, or ISAF, in Afghanistan.

Marine Corps AV-8Bs and RAF GR-7s provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Lashkar Gah. The GR-7s expended cannon rounds and general-purpose 500-pound bombs on enemy locations.

Navy F/A-18Fs provided close-air support for ISAF troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Gereshk.

Additionally, four Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 62 close-air support missions in support of OEF or ISAF. These missions included support to coalition, Afghan and ISAF troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

In Iraq, Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Kirkuk and Al Musayyib; and Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Hillah.

Marine Corps F/A-18Cs provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Kirkuk and Najaf.

Additionally, 13 Air Force, Navy and Army ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 38 close-air support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 180 airlift sorties, delivered 640 tons of cargo and transported 3,600 passengers. This included about 9,000 pounds of troop resupply airdropped in eastern Afghanistan.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia and Canada flew in support of OIF or OEF.

On Sept. 17, U.S., French, RAF and Republic of Singapore Air Force tankers flew 42 sorties and off-loaded nearly 2.5 million pounds of fuel.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 50 close-air-support missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom or ISAF. These missions included support to coalition, Afghan and ISAF troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

In Iraq, Royal Air Force Tornado GR-4s and Marine Corps F/A-18Cs provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Musayibb.

RAF GR-4s and Marine Corps F/A-18Cs provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Baghdad.

The F/A-18Cs also provided close-air support to troops in contact near Tall Afar.

Additionally, 18 Air Force, Navy, Army and RAF ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 40 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 155 airlift sorties, delivered 440 tons of cargo and transported 2,660 passengers.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada, Japan and Korea flew in support of OIF or OEF.

On Sept. 18, U.S., French and RAF tankers flew 40 sorties and off-loaded more than 2.4 million pounds of fuel.

Additionally, six Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 55 close-air-support missions in support of OEF or ISAF. These missions included support to coalition, Afghan and ISAF troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

In Iraq, U.S. Air Force F-16s provided close air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces in the vicinity of Kirkuk and Al Mahmudiyah.

RAF Tornado GR-4s, Marine Corps F/A-18Cs provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Baghdad.

Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Basrah and Najaf.

Marine Corps F/A-18Cs provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Tikrit.

Additionally, 18 Air Force, Army, Royal Australian Air Force and RAF ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 45 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

On Sept. 19, Air Force rescue and medical crews on HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopters flew a medical evacuation mission in support of OEF. One local national child with injuries requiring urgent care was evacuated as a result of this mission.

Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 150 airlift sorties were flown, delivered 235 tons of cargo and transported 3,750 passengers.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada and Japan flew in support of OIF or OEF.

On Sept. 19, U.S., French, RAF and Republic of Singapore Air Force tankers flew 41 sorties and off-loaded more than 2.4 million pounds of fuel.

The A-10s expended guided bomb unit-12s; the F/A-18s expended a GBU-38; and the Predator expended a Hellfire missile on enemy positions.

Air Force A-10s provided close air support for coalition troops in contact with Taliban extremists in the vicinity of Towgu Ghar.

The following close air support requests supported NATO forces operating as the International Security Assistance Force, or ISAF, in Afghanistan.

Royal Air Force GR-7s and U.S. Marine Corps AV-8 Harriers provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Garmsir. The GR-7s made passes and expended a general purpose 500-pound bomb and rockets; the AV-8Bs expended a GBU-38 and a GBU-12 on enemy locations.

U.S. Navy F/A-18s provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Sangin and Bayanay.

Additionally, six Air Force and U.S. Navy intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

Air Force F-16s provided close air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces in the vicinity of Tikrit and Iskandariyah; Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles and Royal Air Force GR-4 Tornados also provided close-air support to troops in contact in the vicinity of Iskandariyah.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 39 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Additionally, 12 Air Force, Army and Royal Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq.

Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. More than 145 airlift sorties were flown; more than 175 tons of cargo was delivered, and more than 3,500 passengers were transported. This included about 47,500 pounds of troop re-supply air-dropped in eastern Afghanistan.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada, Japan and Korea flew in support of OIF or OEF.

On September 20, Air Force, Royal Air Force and Republic of Singapore Air Force tankers flew 40 sorties and off-loaded more than 2.5 million pounds of fuel.

Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs and a B-1 Lancer provided close-air support for coalition troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Gereshk. The A-10s made passes and expended general purpose 500-pound bombs, GBU-12s and cannon rounds on enemy positions.

Navy F/A-18Fs, F/A-18Cs and Royal Air Force Harrier GR-7s provided close-air support for coalition troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Chanbarak Ghar. The F/A-18Fs expended GBU-12s on enemy positions.

On Sept. 21, U.S., French, RAF and Singapore air force tankers flew 40 sorties and off-loaded more than 2.5 million pounds of fuel.

Sept. 24
In Afghanistan Sept. 23, RAF GR-7s conducted a strike against Taliban extremists near Ghanzi. The GR-7s made passes and expended general-purpose 500-pound bombs and rockets on enemy targets.

Air Force A-10s, a B-1 and RAF GR-7s provided close-air support for coalition troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Disi Ghar. The A-10s made passes and expended general-purpose 500-pound bombs, a GBU-12 and cannon rounds; the B-1 expended GBU-31s and GBU-38s and the GR-7s expended a general-purpose 500-pound bomb on enemy positions.

An Air Force B-1 also provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Bez Bel.

Air Force A-10s also provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Tagab. The A-10s made passes and expended cannon rounds on enemy positions.

The following close air support requests supported NATO forces operating as the ISAF in Afghanistan.

RAF GR-7s provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Garmsir.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 38 close-air support missions in support of OEF or ISAF. These missions included support to coalition, Afghan and ISAF troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

Additionally, six Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

Sept. 25
In Afghanistan Sept. 24, Air Force A-10s and Navy F/A-18Cs provided close-air support for coalition troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Tarak. The A-10s and F/A-18Cs expended GBU-12s and cannon rounds on enemy positions.

Air Force A-10s provided close-air support for coalition troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Aranas and Hazarkhel.

RAF GR-7s provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Deh Rawood.

CENTAF releases airpower summary for Sept. 26

SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials have released the airpower summary for Sept. 26.

In Afghanistan Sept. 25, Navy F/A-18Cs and Royal Air Force Harrier GR-7s provided close-air support for coalition troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Regah.

The following close-air support requests supported NATO forces operating as the International Security Assistance Force, or ISAF, in Afghanistan.

RAF GR-7s provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Eybak. The GR-7s made passes and expended rockets on an enemy location.

An Air Force B-1 Lancer provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Garmsir.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 45 close-air support missions in support of OEF or ISAF. These missions included support to coalition, Afghan and ISAF troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

Additionally, seven Air Force and Navy intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

In Iraq, Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons provide close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Bayji and Al Iskandariyah.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 45 close-air support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Additionally, 15 Air Force, Army and RAF ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq.

Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 155 airlift sorties, delivered 600 tons of cargo and transported 4,020 passengers. This included about 25,600 pounds of troop resupply airdropped in eastern Afghanistan.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada and Japan flew in support of OIF or OEF.

On Sept. 24, Air Force, RAF, French and Singaporean Air Force tankers flew 39 sorties and off-loaded more than 2.4 million pounds of fuel.

Air Force A-10s provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Now Zad. Navy F/A-18Fs provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Sangin.

Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 130 airlift sorties, delivered 370 tons of cargo and transported 3,050 passengers.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia and Japan flew in support of OIF or OEF.

On Sept. 25, Air Force and RAF tankers flew 34 sorties and off-loaded more than 2.3 million pounds of fuel.

French Air Force M-2000s provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Garmsir.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 45 close-air support missions in support of OEF or ISAF. These missions included support to coalition, Afghan and ISAF troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

Additionally, six Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan. Navy fighter aircraft performed in non-traditional ISR roles with their electro-optical and infrared sensors.

In Iraq, Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Taji.

Royal Air Force Tornado GR-4s provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Baghdad and Basrah.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 40 close-air support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Additionally, 18 Air Force, Navy, Army and RAF ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq.

On Sept. 26, Air Force rescue and medical crews on HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopters flew a medical evacuation mission in support of OEF. One Afghan National Army member with injuries requiring urgent care was evacuated as a result of this mission.

Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 150 airlift sorties, delivered 510 tons of cargo and transported 3,170 passengers. This included about 33,200 pounds of troop resupply airdropped in eastern Afghanistan.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia and Canada flew in support of OIF or OEF.

On Sept. 26, U.S., RAF and Singaporean Air Force tankers flew 33 sorties and off-loaded almost 2.3 million pounds of fuel.

SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials have released the airpower summary for Sept. 29.

In Afghanistan Sept. 28, Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs, provided close-air support for coalition troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Enjar Ghar. The A-10s made passes and expended cannon rounds. A-10s also provided close-air support for Coalition troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Shinkay.

The following close air support requests supported NATO forces operating as the International Security Assistance Force, or ISAF, in Afghanistan.

Royal Air Force Harrier GR-7s provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Sangin. The GR-7s expended rockets and an Enhanced Paveway II munition.

Navy F/A-18Fs provided close-air support for ISAF troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Kajaki `Ulya.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 43 close-air support missions in support of OEF or ISAF. These missions included support to coalition, Afghan and ISAF troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

Additionally, 13 Air Force, Navy and RAF intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

In Iraq, Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Kirkuk, Baghdad and Tall Afar.

Navy F/A-18Cs provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Baghdad and Balad, and RAF Tornado GR-4s provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Taji and Baghdad.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 40 close-air support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Additionally, 17 Air Force, Navy, Army and RAF ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq.
