CENTAF releases airpower summary for Oct. 3

SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials have released the airpower summary for Oct. 3.

In Afghanistan Oct. 2, Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs, a B-1B Lancer and French M-2000 Mirages provided close-air support for coalition troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Gilan. The A-10s expended cannon rounds on enemy positions.

Air Force A-10s provided close-air support for coalition troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Bar Kanday.

The following close-air support requests supported NATO forces operating as the International Security Assistance Force, or ISAF, in Afghanistan.

Royal Air Force GR-7 Harriers and U.S. Navy F/A-18 Hornets provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Now Zad.  A GR-7 expended an enhanced Paveway II munition and the F/A-18s expended guided bomb unit-12s on enemy positions.

Navy F/A-18s provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Kuchnay Darvishan. The F/A-18s expended a GBU-12 on an enemy position.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 47 close-air-support missions in support of OEF or ISAF. These missions included support to coalition, Afghan and ISAF troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

Additionally, seven Air Force and Royal Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

In Iraq, an Air Force Predator conducted a strike against anti-Iraqi forces near Ramadi. The Predator expended a Hellfire missile on the enemy target.

Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Baqubah, Samarra and Basrah.

Marine F/A-18s provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Iskandariyah.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 39 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Additionally, 14 Air Force, Navy and Army ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq.

Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. More than 140 airlift sorties were flown; more than 300 tons of cargo was delivered, and more than 2,840 passengers were transported. This included about 11,200 pounds of troop re-supply air-dropped in eastern Afghanistan.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada and Japan flew in support of OIF or OEF.

On Oct. 1, Air Force, Royal Air Force, French and Singaporean tankers flew 38 sorties and off-loaded more than 2.3 million pounds of fuel.

CENTAF releases airpower summaries for Sept. 30 to Oct. 2

SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials have released the airpower summary for Sept. 30 through Oct. 2.

Sept. 30
In Afghanistan Sept. 29, Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs, a B-1 Lancer and Royal Air Force Harrier GR-7s provided close-air support for coalition troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Sangin. The A-10s expended a Guided Bomb Unit-12 on enemy positions.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 48 close-air support missions in support of OEF or ISAF. These missions included support to coalition, Afghan and International Security Assistance Force troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

Additionally, eight Air Force and RAF intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

In Iraq, Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons, Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles and Marine Corps F/A-18Cs provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Baghdad.

Air Force F-16s provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Samarra and Balad, and Air Force F-15Es provided close-air support to troops in contact near Basrah.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 44 close-air support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Additionally, 12 Air Force, Navy and Royal Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. Air Force fighter aircraft performed in non-traditional ISR roles with their electro-optical and infrared sensors.

Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 160 airlift sorties, delivered 530 tons of cargo and transported 2,465 passengers.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia and Japan flew in support of OIF or OEF.

On Sept. 28, U.S., RAF and Singaporean Air Force tankers flew 37 sorties and off-loaded more than 2.4 million pounds of fuel.

Oct. 1
In Afghanistan Sept. 30, Air Force A-10s provided close-air support for coalition troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Kariz-e Kalan.

The following close-air support requests supported NATO forces operating as the ISAF in Afghanistan.

RAF GR-7s and Air Force A-10s provided close-air support for coalition troops in contact with Taliban extremists Garmsir. The GR-7s made passes and expended general-purpose 500-pound munitions and rockets on enemy positions.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 45 close-air-support missions in support of OEF or ISAF. These missions included support to coalition, Afghan and ISAF troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

Additionally, 10 U.S. and RAF ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

In Iraq, Air Force F-16s provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Samarah.

Marine Corps F/A-18Cs provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Balad.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 40 close-air support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Additionally, 17 Air Force, Navy, RAF and Royal Australian Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq.

Air Force C-130s and C-17s provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 140 airlift sorties, delivered 540 tons of cargo and transported 2,700 passengers. This included close to 16,500 pounds of troop resupply airdropped in eastern Afghanistan.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia flew in support of OIF or OEF.

On Sept. 29, U.S., RAF and French air force tankers flew 38 sorties and off-loaded more than 2.5 million pounds of fuel.

Oct. 2
In Afghanistan Oct. 1, the following close-air support request supported NATO forces operating as the ISAF in Afghanistan.

Air Force A-10s provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Kajaki `Ulya.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 47 close-air-support missions in support of OEF or ISAF. These missions included support to coalition, Afghan and ISAF troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

Additionally, four Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

In Iraq, Air Force F-16s conducted strikes against anti-Iraqi forces near Al Yusufiyah. The F-16s expended cannon rounds and a GBU-12 on enemy targets.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 42 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Additionally, 14 Air Force, Navy, Army, RAF and Royal Australian Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq.

On Sept. 30, Air Force rescue and medical crews on HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopters flew a medical evacuation mission in support of OEF. One local national patient with injuries requiring urgent care was evacuated as a result of this mission.

Air Force C-130s and C-17s provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 140 airlift sorties, delivered 510 tons of cargo and transported 2,610 passengers.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia and Canada flew in support of OIF or OEF.

On Sept. 30, U.S., RAF, French and Singaporean air force tankers flew 37 sorties and off-loaded almost 2.6 million pounds of fuel.

The following close-air support requests supported NATO forces operating as the International Security Assistance Force, or ISAF, in Afghanistan.

Royal Air Force Harrier GR-7s provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Kandahar, Sangin, Band-e Kajaki and Garmsir. Navy F/A-18Cs provided close-air support for ISAF troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Kandahar.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 52 close-air support missions in support of OEF or ISAF. These missions included support to coalition, Afghan and ISAF troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

Additionally, seven Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

In Iraq, RAF Tornado GR-4s provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Basrah.

Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Baghdad and Balad. Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Baghdad, Ramadi, Al Fatha and Al Hawijah.

Marine Corps AV-8Bs provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Ramadi.

Marine Corps F/A-18Cs provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Mahmudiyah.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 46 close-air support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Additionally, 14 Air Force, Army, RAF and Royal Australian Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq.

On Oct. 4, U.S., RAF and French air force tankers flew 33 sorties and off-loaded more than 2.2 million pounds of fuel.

U.S. Marine Corps F/A-18s provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Aranas.

Air Force A-10s provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Malaksay.

In total, 43 close-air-support missions were flown in support of ISAF and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

Additionally, 17 Air Force, Army and RAF ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. Air Force fighter aircraft performed in non-traditional ISR roles with their electro-optical and infrared sensors.

Oct. 8

In Afghanistan Oct. 7, an Air Force B-1B conducted a strike against an enemy position near Gereshk. The B-1B expended GBU-38s on the enemy targets.

Air Force A-10s, a B-1B, Navy F/A-18s and RAF GR-7s provided close-air support for International Security Assistance Force troops in contact with Taliban extremists in the vicinity of Regal. The A-10s expended GBU-12s, general-purpose 500-pound bombs and cannon rounds; the B-1B expended GBU-31s; the F/A-18Fs expended GBU-12s and cannon rounds; and the GR-7s expended general-purpose 500-pound bombs, Enhanced Paveway IIs and rockets on enemy positions.

United States Air Force A-10s and U.S. Navy F/A-18Cs provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Now Zad. The A-10s also provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact near Kajaki 'Ulya.

In total, 51 close-air-support missions were flown to support to ISAF and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

Additionally, five Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

In Iraq, an Air Force Predator and U.S. Marine Corps F/A-18s conducted strikes against anti-Iraqi forces near Fallujah. The Predator expended a Hellfire missile and the F/A-18s expended a Maverick missile and cannon rounds on enemy targets.

Air Force F-15Es provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Ad Diwaniyah, and RAF GR-4 Tornados provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces in the vicinity of Basrah.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 42 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Additionally, 17 Air Force, Navy and RAF ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq.

Air Force C-130s and C-17s provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. Close to 120 airlift sorties were flown; more than 370 tons of cargo were delivered, and more than 2,470 passengers were transported.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia flew in support of OIF or OEF.

On Oct. 6, Air Force, RAF and French tankers flew 38 sorties and off-loaded almost 2.5 million pounds of fuel.

SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials have released the airpower summary for Oct. 10.

In Afghanistan Oct. 9, an Air Force B-1B Lancer provided close-air support for International Security Assistance Force, or ISAF, troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Garmsir. The B-1B expended guided bomb unit-31s on enemy positions.

Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs and U.S. Navy F/A-18 Hornets provided close-air support for ISAF troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Myan Koh. The F/A-18s expended cannon rounds and GBU-12s on enemy positions.

Air Force A-10s and a B1-B and Navy F/A-18s provided close air support for ISAF troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Now Zad.

In total, 45 close-air-support missions were flown in support of ISAF and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

Additionally, eleven Air Force, Navy and Royal Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

In Iraq , U.S. Marine AV-8 Harriers conducted a strike against anti-Iraqi forces near Ramadi. The AV-8s expended cannon rounds on enemy positions.

RAF GR-4 Tornados provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Amarah.

Air Force F-16s provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Samarra.

A Marine F/A-18 provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Ad Diwaniyah.

Air Force F-16s provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Samarra and Baghdad.

Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Baghdad and Basrah.

Additionally, 20 Air Force, Navy, Army and RAF ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq.

Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan , Iraq and the Horn of Africa. Approximately 165 airlift sorties were flown; almost 500 tons of cargo was delivered, and more than 3,600 passengers were transported. This included about 16,300 pounds of troop re-supply air-dropped in eastern Afghanistan.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia , Canada and Korea flew in support of OIF or OEF.

On Oct. 8, Air Force, RAF, French and Singaporean tankers flew 41 sorties and off-loaded more than 2.6 million pounds of fuel.

Navy F/A-18s provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Now Zad and Lwara Dasta.

In total, 42 close-air support missions were flown in support of ISAF and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

Additionally, eight Air Force and Royal Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

In Iraq, an Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon and an MQ-1 Air Force Predator conducted a strike against anti-Iraqi forces near Ramadi. The F-16 expended a GBU-12 and the Predator expended Hellfire missiles on the enemy targets. Marine Corps AV-8B Harriers conducted a strike against anti-Iraqi forces near Qazwan. The AV-8B expended cannon rounds on the enemy targets.

Marine Corps F/A-18s provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Balad.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 41 close-air support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Additionally, 18 Air Force, Army and Royal Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq.

On Oct. 9, Air Force rescue and medical crews on HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopters flew a medical evacuation mission in support of OEF. One Afghan National Army soldier, with injuries requiring urgent care, was evacuated as a result of this mission.

Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 150 airlift sorties, delivered 610 tons of cargo and transported 3,340 passengers.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada, Japan and Korea flew in support of OIF or OEF.

On Oct. 9, Air Force, RAF, French and Singaporean air force tankers flew 39 sorties and off-loaded more than 2.5 million pounds of fuel.

SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- In Afghanistan Oct. 11, U.S. Navy F/A-18 Hornets provided close air support for International Security Assistance Force, or ISAF, troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Lwara Dasta. The F/A-18s expended a guided bomb unit-12 on an enemy position.

Navy F/A-18s and Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Shuhika. The F/A-18s expended GBU-12s and a GBU-38 on enemy positions. The F/A-18s also provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Mandagel Sufla.

Air Force A-10s provided close-air support for ISAF troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Bar Kanday and Sado Kala.

Royal Air Force GR-7Harriers provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Mangratay.

In total, 48 close-air-support missions were flown in support of ISAF and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

Additionally, nine Air Force and RAF intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

In Iraq, U.S. Marine Corps F/A-18s conducted a strike against anti-Iraqi forces near Qazwan. The aircraft expended a Maverick missile on an enemy target.

SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials have released the airpower summary for Oct. 13.

In Afghanistan Oct. 12, Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs, an Air Force B-1B Lancer and Royal Air Force GR-7 Harriers provided close-air support for International Security Assistance Force, or ISAF, troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Salamkhan. The A-10s expended guided bomb unit-12s and cannon rounds; the B-1B expended a GBU-38, and the GR-7s expended Enhanced Paveway IIs and rockets on enemy positions.

RAF GR-7s provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Band-e Kajaki. The GR-7s expended EPW IIs on enemy positions.

An Air Force B-1B provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Lwara Dasta. The B-1B expended GBU-38s on enemy positions.

An Air Force B-1B and Air Force A-10s provided close-air support for ISAF troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Tirgaran. The A-10s expended cannon rounds on enemy positions.

Air Force A-10s provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Gangikhel.

In total, 51 close-air-support missions were flown in support of ISAF and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

Additionally, 12 Air Force, Navy and Royal RAF intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

In Iraq, Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Bayji.

Air Force F-16s and U.S. Marine Corps F/A-18s provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Baqubeh. The F/A-18s also provided close-air support to troops in contact near Mosul.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 51 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Additionally, 16 Air Force, Navy, Army, RAF and Royal Australian Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq.

On Oct. 11, Air Force rescue and medical crews on HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopters flew three medical evacuation missions in support of OEF. Three Afghan National Army soldiers and four local national children with injuries requiring urgent care were evacuated as a result of these missions.
