Kirkkoon yllättäen poikkesin
Sitä hämmästelin itsekkin
Oli joulu taaskin tuloillaan

Hämmästellen jotain

Josta kertoa kai voin
Kuin henkäys ikuisuutta
sai minua koskettaa
jotain vanhaa
jotain uutta
Taivasta tavoittavaa
Istun penkkiin
ylös katselen
miten kirkko on niin hiljainen
niinkuin toisenlaiseen maailmaan
oisin tullut
hetkeksi vain
Kuin henkäys ikuisuutta
sai minua koskettaa
jotain vanhaa
jotain uutta
Taivasta tavoittavaa

Iloa vakavuutta
Kynttilät alttarilla
katto on niin korkea tuo
kysymyksillä tuhansilla
veivät joulun kuninkaan luo

taivasta tavoittavaa

Varpunen Jouluaamuna

Lumi on jo peittänyt kukat laaksosessa,
järven aalto jäätynyt talvipakkasessa.
Varpunen pienoinen, syönyt kesäeinehen,
järven aalto jäätynyt talvi pakkasessa.
Pienen pirtin portailla oli tyttökulta:
tule, varpu, riemulla, ota siemen multa!
Joulu on, koditon varpuseni onneton,
tule tänne riemulla, ota siemen multa!
Tytön luo nyt riemuiten lensi varpukulta:
kiitollisna siemenen otan kyllä sulta.
Palkita Jumala tahtoo kerran sinua.

En mä ole, lapseni, varpu tästä maasta,
olen pieni veljesi, tulin taivahasta.
Siemenen pienoisen, jonka annoit köyhällen,
pieni sai sun veljesi enkeleitten maasta.

Mökit nukkuu lumiset,
nukkuu hanki, tanteret,
tuikkii taivaan tähtivyö,
pyhä nyt on jouluyö.
Katso, valo välkähtää,
hanget kaikki kimmeltää,
yli vuorten, metsien,
käy kuin välke siipien.
Se on joulun enkeli.
herra hänet lähetti
kanssa joululahjojen
luokse pienten lapsien.

Vaikka häl on kädessään
niin kuin kulkis kylvämään,
ja hän kyllä kylvääkin,
mutta ihmismielihin.
Ei hän anna makeita
eikä leikkikaluja,
niitä isä, äiti suo.
Mitä jouluenkel tuo?
Puhtahia aatteita,
kultaisia kuvia
Suomen lasten sydämiin,
mökkihin ja palatsiin.

Niitä hänen vakastaan
variseepi yli maan
niin kuin pikku tähtiä,
eikö se oo ihmetä?
Mutta yhä kummempaa
viel on, mitä kerrotaan:
Kulkies sen enkelin,
lapsiks muuttuu vanhatkin.
Sitä et kai ymmärrä?
Kysy sitä äidiltä!
Sitten siunaa itsesi,
nuku, saapuu enkeli.

Jo Joutuu Ilta

Jo joutuu ilta ja tuuli käy yli tumman, synkeän salon,
hämy majan verhovi matalan ja kirkkaan uhkean talon.
Kun tuntea sais tuon pyhän, lohtua luovan valon!
Vaan tähdet lempeän hohteen luo syvyyksiin synkkiin asti.
Ja jouluvalkeat loistavat joka paikassa kirkkahasti.
Oi Luojamme, sä tule meille johtajaksi!
Nyt valkeus voittaa ja synkkyyskin jo murtuu maisilla teillä.
Majassa halvimmassakin on sijansa enkeleillä.
Ja silloin on myös joulurauha parhain meillä
