Premijer Rusije Vladimir Putin optužio je Sjedinjene Američke Države da žive preko svojih mogućnosti "kao paraziti" globalne ekonomije

MOSKVA - Premijer Rusije Vladimir Putin optužio je Sjedinjene Američke Države da žive preko svojih mogućnosti "kao paraziti" globalne ekonomije i kazao da dominacija dolara predstavlja pretnju finansijskim tržištima.

"Oni žive preko svojih mogućnosti i prebacuju deo težine svojih problema na svetsku ekonomiju", rekao je Putin u ponedeljak grupi mladih iz Kremlja, obilazeći njihov letnji kamp severno od Moskve, preneo je Rojters.

Putin je kazao da se u Rusiji nalazi velika količina američkih akcija i obveznica, tako da ukoliko u Americi prestane da funkcioniše sistem, to će pogoditi ceo svet.

"Zemlje kao što su Rusija i Kina drže značajan deo svojih rezervi u američkim vrednosnim hartijama i mislim da bi trebale postojati druge, rezervne valute", kazao je Putin.

Russian police wants to know what young people read and listen to

Interior Minister Rashid Nurgaliev has said that the activity of some internet resources should be restricted to prevent extremism among the youth.

­Young people are very often influenced by others, and they commit “the most audacious and cynical crimes on the grounds of national, racial or religious hatred,” Police Chief Rashid Nurgaliev said. He was speaking at the first regional meeting of the new interdepartmental counter-extremist commission in Novosibirsk on Tuesday.

President Dmitry Medvedev created the new body last week in order to combine the efforts of 16 ministries and state agencies to prevent extremism and remove the conditions which fuel it.

Young people should be protected from harmful influence, Nurgaliev said, adding that they are supposed to “continue and develop the traditions of a multinational country that has many faiths.” The authorities and law enforcement agencies are bound to study the situation in the regions so that the state can develop “adequate measures of response”, the minister noted.

To prevent extremism, it is necessary to know the cultural preferences of young people in regards to music, literature and movies, the police chief believes. The monitoring of what people listen to, read, and watch is also long overdue, the minister stressed. Many cultural values that have united people for years, including such important facets of our musical heritage as love songs and waltzes, have been forgotten in the recent times, he noted.  

Quite recently, however, employers and members of selection committees in universities were interested in young people’s musical and literature preferences, Nurgaliev said. He added it was necessary to see if their current musical preferences are “one-sided.”

The mass media could play its part in preventing extremist manifestations, the police chief said. But he also called for placing restrictions on the activities of some internet resources. The Internet has become “a means of organizing extremist or even terrorist actions,” he noted. The work of certain websites should be limited, “without infringing on the freedom to exchange information,” Nurgaliev said.

The new commission, headed by the interior minister, will coordinate the efforts of the federal and regional authorities in fighting extremism. The police chief has no doubts that the body will bring about real results in the fight against this evil.

TNT surprise for kindergarten pupils

A cynical and cold-minded terror attack has hit a children’s playground in Russia’s Far East, outraging local residents.

On a warm, sunny day, five-year-old Uliana was walking with her kindergarten tutor and group mates, when she saw a nice small gift box decorated with a ribbon. Curious as any typical child of her age, the girl hurried to open the beautiful blue box, hoping to find something exciting.

The “pleasant surprise” turned out to be a homemade bomb filled with nails and metal wire equivalent to seven grams of TNT.

The sudden blast set the girl’s shirt on fire, while the debris badly hurt her eyes and hands.

Fortunately, the mother of one of Uliana’s fellow pupils managed to push away the bomb just in time to save the girl’s life.

The victim is now in hospital. Doctors say Uliana suffered serious burns, but fortunately they are not life-threatening.

Police have already detained a 26-year-old man, who they believe to be behind the crime. He has confessed to committing it. The man was earlier of interest to law enforcers, a source close to the investigation said.

The crime is considered an act of terror and police are taking it very seriously.

“The motive of the people behind this loathsome act is beyond comprehension. Certainly, organizers and all accomplices to this crime will be identified and duly punished,” a police spokesman warned earlier during a media conference.

Russian children’s rights ombudsman Pavel Astakhov said that it is the kindergarten’s administration to be blamed for the incident, as they are primarily responsible for children’s safety.

Local police say the kindergarten in question was ordered to install a number of CCTV cameras back in May, which the administration failed to do.

Law enforcement bodies have now taken schools and kindergartens in the region under additional protection.

Russian banker steals billions and runs for London



The case of a former Russian senator, whose bank owes the state more than $1 billion, has grown into one of the biggest financial scandals in Russian history, exposing drastic drawbacks in the country's banking regulations.

­Russian businessmen making it onto the UK's rich list have become a common thing – just as Russian investigators, in turn, take an interest in their affairs.

Sergey Pugachev has everything: a fortune in several banks, a couple of private jets and numerous properties – from the Cote d’Azur to London.

Married to a Russo-British socialite, he was a guest at Prince Albert’s recent royal wedding in Monaco. Among the top ten richest people in the UK according to last year’s Sunday Times newspaper, Pugachev leads a life many would envy. He even made his wife a star of a TV advertising campaign in France for the grand French food store Hediard, which he owns.

However, all that is hardly a consolation at home – in Russia – where he owes billions of rubles to his bank’s creditors.

“As a result of misconduct and violations by the management and founders of Mezhprombank its creditors suffered damages totaling more than US$1 billion,” reported Investigative Committee spokesman Vladimir Markin.

Last year the International Industrial Bank known in Russian as Mezhprombank was the first private bank to default on euro bonds in more than 10 years.

It received a more-than-$1 billion loan from the Russian state as part of the anti-crisis support program. But the state has not been returned the money – nor have all the creditors been paid off.

“It was Mr Pugachev’s pocket bank that catered for his various businesses. In the wake of its license being revoked, it practically halted its operations and focused on transferring the assets through credits to shell companies that moved it on and on. And in the end the money most probably ended up in the structures affiliated with the owner of the bank,” explained the general director of Russia’s Deposit Insurance Agency, Aleksandr Tourbanov.

The bank’s database was deliberately erased and investigators say the bankruptcy was intentional. It is the largest bankruptcy case of a financial institution in Russia’s modern history. Along with the bank, the rest of Pugachev’s business empire seems to have dissolved into other offshore assets.

A similar scandal broke out with the Bank of Moscow, Russia's fifth-largest bank. The review revealed a gaping hole in the books, with bad loans totaling $9 billion, or nearly a third of its assets. The former head of the bank is also hiding in London.

The bankruptcy of Mezhprombank last year and the recent downfall of the Bank of Moscow, reveal that the country is in desperate need of stronger banking supervision. And while those responsible for the damage enjoy their lives outside Russia, it is the state and its people that have to carry the burden of their losses.
