Major Stryker is a fun top-down shooter from Apogee that features smooth parallax scrolling, detailed EGA background graphics, decent controls, and diverse enemies. There?s nothing here that breaks the mold, but even if the action is typical and the premise familiar, Major Stryker still packs enough punch to entertain action gamers for the few hours it will take to finish it. Worth a play-through, and definitely worth the cost of registering the shareware version. Too bad Apogee has discontinued this underdog ? but you can download the fully registered version below. Also an interesting anecdote for fans of Apogee trivia: the main character in the game, Harrison Stryker, is related to Duke Nukem, a far more famous Apogee character.
You are Snake Logan, a top-secret operative for the CIA. Metro City is being attacked by mutants, probably released by a scientist called Dr. Mangle. You are on a reconnaissance mission in your Cessna when you are shot down and crash-land in the streets of Metro City. You crawl out of the plane armed with an M60 pulse rifle, and the game begins.
Imagine Billy Blaze with a machine gun, splattering the aliens and turning them inside-out in a nice massacre. This is what Snake Logan is doing. The plot is simple: shoot every mutant and evil machine in the town and rescue civilians. This game uses the second Commander Keen engine made by ID Software (Keen 4-6) - one of the world's best platform-engines in my opinion. The biggest problem is that the game lacks variation, and after ten levels of pure killing and pushing a few switches... you need some time before you start with the second episode.

I was pretty unsure under which category to put this game, but in the end I decided strategy is the most appropriate since it plays the biggest role in the gameplay. However, Supaplex is a lot more than just a strategy game. It is also packed with action which makes it an extremely dynamic and interesting game. You play a role of a computer bug made in the image of pac-man. On each level, your task is to consume all atoms and then reach the exit point. To do this you will have to evade anti-virus softwares which is represented by scissors, firewalls that look like big bombs, short-circuits that will fry you and many more interesting obstacles. You will need to carefully plan your movement throughout the levels. There are 120 levels in total. The sound is excellent and fulfills the "mood" perfectly. Graphics are very fluid and easy on the eyes. This is an all-around enjoyable game that will provide you with days and perhaps months of fun. The concept is original, the execution flawless so I don't see why it shouldn't deserve a 5 point mark! Strongly recommended!
