ASUS P552w smartphone ready to compete with HTC Touch



ASUS has recently unveiled its competitor to the original HTC Touch smartphone called P552w. The device competes with the original HTC Touch and not the Diamond because of the QVGA (240×320 pixels) screen, as opposed to VGA (480×640 pixels) which is used in the Diamond.

The ASUS smartphone relies on the quite fast 624MHz CPU and sports such things as built-in GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, 2 megapixel camera and more. The company’s Glide UI sits on top of Windows Mobile 6.1, ensuring users enjoy easy access to their photos, videos, RSS feeds and more.

Unfortunately, we’re not aware how much the ASUS P552w will costs once its released nor where you’ll be able to grab it. However, I would expect to see it hitting Europe within weeks, maybe months, with the price that’s about the same as the HTC Touch.

Suspected ASUS P565 turns up, gets detailed



Nothing is quite official about this ASUS phone just yet, but the current speculation is that it's actually the ASUS P565 and, judging from some newly-detailed specs, it looks like it shouldn't have much trouble attracting its share of interest. Leading the way is a speedy 800MHz Marvell Tavor processor (apparently a first for any phone), and a still relatively uncommon 2.8-inch VGA screen, which should go nicely with the VGA camera for video conferencing (you'll get 3-megapixels for still mages). Otherwise, you can expect European HSDPA connectivity, built-in GPS, a 1300mAh battery that promises 3.5 hours of 3G talk time, and Windows Mobile 6.1 for an OS (with ASUS' Glide software on top of it), of course. No word on a price just yet, but word is this one is on track for a release as soon as October.

First spy shots of Motorola Q11 – a BlackBerry Bold competitor?

Rumors about Motorola Q11 first appeared at the beginning of September, but at that time there were no images with the smartphone. Now the images issue is no longer an issue, as Moto Q11 has appeared in several spy shots, presenting itself as a really good-lookin’ smartphone.

The Q11 takes the design of the Q9 series (including the full QWERTY keypad) and refreshes it here and there, the result being a device that might be seen as a competitor for RIM’s BlackBerry Bold. And the specs of Moto Q11 actually allow it to take on the Bold.

Unfortunately, the display of Motorola Q11 seems to be the same as on the Q9 series, hence a 320 x 240 pixels one.



Anyway, Windows Mobile die-hard fans will probably be happy when this baby comes out. Of course, no one knows when this will happen, but if Moto manages to launch the Q11 by the year’s end, the smartphone can surely get a substantial amount of attention.

Motorola Q11 turns up in Brazil ahead of launch



We've already had a pretty clear indication that Motorola's Q11 was nearing a release in Brazil and, according to ZumoBlog, everything is now set to finally get official tomorrow. That, however, hasn't stopped the site from getting its hands on the phone today, and it's thankfully snapped a few pics of it to give folks a peek at what's in store. Of course, the pics of the Q9 lookalike don't exactly tell the whole story, as the big news is added WiFi and GPS, and, unfortunately, a lack of 3G. Still, if that's a trade-off you can get behind, you can keep watch on the site for a promised video hands-on, and set aside the 899 Brazilian reais (or just over $400) it'll cost you to get an unlocked version of the phone.

WSJ Says HP Prepping New Consumer-Oriented Smartphone



The Wall Street Journal is reporting that that HP will soon introduce a new consumer-oriented iPAQ smartphone.

This Windows Mobile 6.1 device will include a touchscreen and keypad, according to the newspaper's unnamed sources. It will be released in Europe before the end of this year, but will later be available around the world.

Is It the HP Oak?

At the very beginning of this year, a product roadmap leaked out of the European carrier Vodafone. Prominently listed on this was the HP Oak, which at that that time scheduled for release in September. It seems likely that this is the device the WSJ's tipsters are referring to.

This smartphone will sport a numeric keypad on its front, with a slide-out keyboard behind its screen.

In addition to 7.2 Mbit HSDPA, this quad-band phone will include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.0.

Other features will include a GPS receiver and a 1010 mAh battery that's listed as providing up to 3.5 hours of talk time and 360 hours of stand-by time.

Early this year, Vodafone was planning to charge £260 for this device.

HP Voice Messenger and Data Messenger officially unveiled

Two exiting new WinMo-devices were unveiled today by HP. Named HP iPAQ Data Messenger and HP iPAQ Voice Messenger, they both feature lengthy specs sheets and powerful CPUs. The Voice Messenger is running on the Standard edition of the Windows Mobile 6.1 OS, while the Data Messenger is getting the touch-screen benefits of the Professional version.

The HP Data Messenger comes in the slider form factor featuring a full QWERTY keyboard. It has a 2.81" QVGA touchscreen display capable of showing up to 65K colors.

HP Voice Messenger is a bar-shaped phone with a 20-key Blackberry-esque QWERTY keyboard. It has a more modest 65K color 2.4" display of QVGA resolution. A noteworthy feature of the Voice messenger is its relatively compact body standing at 114 x 50 x 13.6mm and weighing only 107g in contrast to the 160g of the Data messenger.

Both devices support tri-band (900/1900/2100 MHz) UMTS (with HSDPA) and quad-band GSM, making them capable of worldwide roaming. Some of the other features they share are integrated GPS (with A-GPS support), Wi-Fi and 3 megapixel autofocus camera. Both devices are powered by a 528 MHz Qualcomm CPU and have 128MB of SDRAM.

 Motorola Industrial Handsets Will Run On Windows Mobile 6.1



Motorola will ensure that its line of industrial handsets will be revised so that they can run Windows Mobile 6.1, but unfortunately for those who need a rugged handset pronto, these Motorola models won't be available to the masses until the first quarter of next year. What are some of the other viable options available if you want a rugged Windows Mobile 6.1 smartphone?
