Opticon release two WinMo Smartphones



Opticon has announced the release of two new WinMo smartphones, that are coming to market soon. The are the H16 and H19 models, both due in September.

The Unwired has scouted the news and says about the handsets:

The award winning H19 features Windows Mobile 6.0, quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE, WiFi and Bluetooth communication, an integrated GPS module and numeric keypad. With your choice of laser barcode scanner, or 2D CMOS imager, the H19 is the perfect productivity tool for any field workforce.

The H16 features Windows Mobile 5.0, quadband GSM/GPRS/EDE, WiFi and Bluetooth communication, as well as a full slide out QWERTY keyboard. With your choice of laser barcode scanner, or 2D CMOS imager, the H16 is the perfect productivity tool for text intensive field applications.

The UK equivalent price, it is said, could weigh in at around £600 per handset - which is quite high - however, no UK distribution plans have yet been announced.

HTC announces weird looking S740

The Taiwanese mobile phone manufacturer HTC lifted the curtain on a new Windows Mobile device today. HTC S740 runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard device and sports rather unusual design. 

Coming as a successor of the HTC S730 the S740 is a smartphone with a sliding-out four-row QWERTY keyboard. It boasts a 528 MHz Qualcomm MSM7225 processor and the greatly sounding 256MB RAM.

The display of the HTC S740 is a 2.4" QVGA one (no touchscreen, of course). All four GSM bands and two UMTS (900 and 2100 MHz) bands are supported by the new phone. There is also HSDPA support to make sure that the quickest network data transfers around are available.



Coming with a HTC Touch Diamond-like back, HTC S740 has a 3.2 megapixel fixed-focus snapper on board. Some of the other more important features are built-in GPS (with A-GPS support), Wi-Fi and the HTC ExtUSB slot which combines a mini-USB 2.0 and an audio jack.



The HTC S740 is going to be available across Europe from September, but there is no information regarding its pricing yet.

It's hard to see the reason for releasing a handset such as the S730 with the HTC Touch Diamond and HTC Touch Pro already available but the hardline WinMo Standard fans might appreciate it. It there is any of them left, that is.

IFA 2008: Real life pictures of the HTC S740

Today NewMobile is reporting from the IFA fair in Berlin, Germany. We found the new HTC S740, that was announced several days ago, and got a chance to test the device.The one thing you notice immediately about the design is the fact that the numeric keys aren't as shining as the press photos are suggesting. And that's good news for people with dirty fingers; the device stays clean for quite a while!



The phone is equipped with a full QWERTY keyboard that can be slide out, made of almost the same material as the numeric keys. The keyboard is comparable with the keyboard from the Touch Pro although the S740 device is considerable thinner than its touchscreen-brother.



When you slide out the keyboard, the display is automatically changing from portrait to landschape mode. The device doesn't seem to have auto-rotate through motion sensor.



The back of the device has a Diamond-style look. Unfortunately, the back hasn't got the same as the front; in a short period of time the back of the device is full with stripes and fingerprints. Even when you're very economic and you're washing your hands ten times a day, it's still pointless.




Unfortunately the device hasn't got an active SIM card and according to HTC the device has not yet a product version of Windows Mobile. It's therefore very difficult to say something significant about the functioning of the device. We therefore end with some pictures from the top and bottom of the mobile phone. Especially the last one shows how thin the device is!

Nema touch screen, ne bi ga uzeo ni da je džabe 

Najveca prednost touch screena je kada se koristi browser za surfovanje netom, ostalo sve je maltene isto, cak ponekad je i lagodnije da se koristi d-pad nego da izvadis stilus da bi se kretao kroz meni i radio nesto.
