SINOPSIS: Se narra la relación incestuosa entre Juan y Ana. Él se refugia en una zona desértica de Andalucía huyendo de esta relación e intentando rehacer su vida. Allí comenzará a trabajar como soldador en una planta de residuos radioactivos. Un año después de estar separados, Ana va en busca de su hermano para luchar por él porque considera que ha sido el único amor de su vida. Poco a poco la historia entre los dos se va complicando y se hace más turbia, conforme sus mentiras van en aumento.

Juan flees Madrid and an incestuous relationship with his sister, Ana, working at a mine on the Andalucian coast. When his friendship with Rosario, a local shop girl, becomes romance, Ana shows up wanting to rekindle their affair. He resists at first, but she stays, asserting that Juan is the only man she can ever love. Juan distances himself from Rosario. The mine has problems: high cancer rates in the area caused by poorly stored radioactive waste. A foreign safety engineer, Petersen, tries to connect with Ana, is rebuffed, but lets her stay in his sea-front bungalow. Juan seeks her out to demand she leave, only to argue with Petersen. Death, desire, and longing play out.

There's almost no point in describing the plot here. It's basically a re-make of "The Little Shop of Horrors" where a socially inept loser buys a talking mutant plant and eventually starts feeding people to it as it grows bigger and bigger. The only real difference is the guy here is a voyeur who is constantly watching other people have sex, and he eventually starts kidnapping some of these people and feeding them to the plant. The sex in this movie is about halfway between softcore and hardcore (there is an unsimulated "hand-job" at one point and a long shot of what is obviously actual penetration). Unfortunately, the production values (the script, the acting, the cinematography, and pretty much anything else of interest other than the sex)are also halfway between the two, they are much lower than those usually found in softcore sexploitation movies and approach the abysmal depths of hardcore porn where a "movie" becomes mere masturbation fodder.

The best scene in this features cult 70's porn star Rene Bond and her"suitcase pimp"/ real-life boyfriend Ric Lutze. They play a couple who the protagonist watches having sex. They get in a hilarious post-coital fight--he calls her a "bitch" and hits her with a pillow, so she pulls out a gun and shoots him dead! The voyeur then offers to help her dispose of the body by feeding it to the plant. She is so grateful that she offers to finally pop the cherry of this fifty-year-old virgin, but it all goes horribly, horribly awry. . . This scene stands on its own as entertaining, but it doesn't really make up for the rest of the movie.

Lover of the Last Empress (1995)



Set in ancient China, Lover Of The Last Empress takes us on a historical journey through the intricate schemes and sometimes outrageous lives of the Emperor, his concubines and his followers.

Director Andrew Lau’s semi-serious yet schlocky Category III picture about the last empress of China is an involving, though unbelievable melodrama. Sweet, innocent Yu-Lan (Chingmy Yau) rises to the top of the food chain (Empress Dowager) by learning the art of sex, using it to her advantage, and then being a bitch to everyone who helped her along the way (including Emperor Yu Rong-Guang and his wife Valerie Chow). Helping her is Prince Kung (Tony Leung Ka-Fai), who shares true lust with Yu-Lan for years and years.

Thanks to HK storytelling, all of this historical dramatization seems like high soap opera rather than high art. Hanging the fate of a country on incidents like getting your cat boiled really doesn’t ring true; Yu-Lan’s loss of innocence is more sensationalized than serialized. Add that to the "sex training" sequences and you're looking at The Last Emperor crossed with Sex & Zen. Seriously though, the film isn't as fetid as your usual Category III, and Chingmy Yau turns in a better-than-usual performance.
