CARLING CUP DRAW

United handed trip to Brighton or Derby County...



Leeds United have been handed a trip to Brighton and Hove Albion or Derby County in the fourth round of the Carling Cup.

Our prospective opponents have yet to meet in a delayed third round tie.

Brighton sent Manchester City crashing out of the competition this week, beating Mark Hughes' men on penalties at the Withdean Stadium at the second round stage.

Ironically, Brighton are the visitors to Elland Road for a League One fixture on Saturday October 11.

Derby have beaten Lincoln and Preston in the competition so far, and Paul Jewell's side includes our former striker Rob Hulse.

Our last trip to Derby was in May 2007 for our final game as a Championship club.

The fourth round is due to be played during the week commencing Monday November 10 and we will be contacting both clubs in advance to ensure we can release ticket details at the earliest opportunity.

Spurs midfielder in Leeds trial

Tottenham midfielder Jacques Maghoma will play for Leeds United's reserve-team on Tuesday evening.

Leeds are giving a trial to the 20-year-old, who has been given clearance to play against Hartlepool.

Maghoma is an academy product at Spurs, but injuries restricted him to 14 appearances for their reserves in the 2006/07 and 2007/08 seasons.

Paul Huntington, Enoch Showunmi and Bradley Johnson have also been included in a strong Leeds line-up.

LEEDS UNITED: Whites escape major FA fine

Leeds United have escaped serious financial punishment after being handed a four-figure fine for using an unlicensed agent in their capture of Anthony Elding from Stockport County in January 2008.
The Whites were hit with a £7,500 fine with a further suspended fine of £12,500 at an FA independent regulatory hearing yesterday afternoon. The club admitted the charge, which related to the use of Lorenzo Paolo in the signing of Elding, who has since joined Crewe Alexandra following a brief stint at Elland Road.

The fine is significantly less than the punishment handed out to both Crystal Palace and agent Faisal Kasmiri late last month, with both parties fined £25,000 over the transfer of Nick Carle from Bristol City.

Leeds have been warned as to their future conduct with the fine of £12,500 suspended until 1 September 2010.

The suspended fine will be activated should United be found guilty of any similar breaches of FA agent regulations.

Jermaine Beckford has picked up his first seasonal award...

Jermaine Beckford has won his first award of the season.

Our 11-goal marksman has been named as the PFA 2UP League One Fans Player of The Month Award for September.

Jermaine, who was the League One Player of the Season in 2007/08, has enjoyed a fine month, scoring four of his 11 goals, including a terrific goal to seal the points at Carlisle United on September 20.

PFA chief executive Mick McGuire said: "The League One Player of the Season last season, he has continued where he left off, already scoring 11 goals in league and cup games this season.

"His all round play suggests he is destined for great things."
