The European Broadcasting Union is investigating complaints about the recent Eurovision national final held in Serbia and Montenegro.

After the contest last weekend, there were complaints that the jury members involved showed bias against some of the songs. The jury from Montenegro gave few points to songs from the Serbia Beovizija contest, leading to pre-contest favourite Jelena Tomasevic (pictured) ending in second place. She received no points at all from the Montenegrin judges, but high or maximum points from the other judges and televoters.

Although the EBU generally chooses not to interfere in the way a song is chosen, they have been asked to look at this matter. Svante Stockselius of the EBU explained, “We have received several complaints about the song and the way it was chosen. The rules of the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 give the national broadcasters a possibility to chose their song "as it deems fit". However, the same rule also says that "all due transparency must be ensured". We have asked the delegation from Serbia and Montenegro to inform us about the procedure of the national final.”

At the same time, there have been suggestions that the song, ‘Zauvijek Moja’, may in fact be a copy of an earlier song. It is said to contain parts of a traditional Montenegrin song, used as a hymn by the Liberal Party, entitled ‘Poljem se vija Zordelija’. It is also being compared with a Spanish song, ‘No voy a llorar’, a hit in 2002 for Monica Naranjo. Stockselius commented, “We have experts looking into the accusations of plagiarism, a final decision will be made by the EBU Reference Group before March 21.”
