HTC Touch HD to Receive Yet Another Update

Another HTC Touch HD update is available as of today from the HTC website, this time addressing the camera.

HTC states that in some scenarios, when using the camera in low light conditions and with super fine image mode setting, excessive noise is perceptable on the virtual viewfinder (aka the display). While stating clearly that it's not an issue with the LCD display but rather an "intermittent display problem in view finder mode", the hotfix should fix all that.

Alternative UI for the HTC Touch HD



Having carried the iPhone for a short time, I can definitely say it was not the device for me. To each, his own. I am not trying to insult the Jesus phone, just stating my own personal preference.  Maati over at XDA Developers however, has brought some iPhone esque over to the HTC Touch HD.

Being a resident in the U.S.A., I have yet to get my hands on the magnificent handset that is the HD. If I were lucky enough to own one, I am not sure I would add this package to it or not, but it may prove to be tempting should I ever have the opportunity.

I must admit, that from what I see on this video, maati has done quite a good job with this and it seems to flow pretty well as he demonstrates his creation of this alternative UI.

As you can see from the above video, maati has put a lot of thought and effort into this project, and has really done a fantastic job. He has not only completely changed the way one can maneuver their Touch HD, he has proven once again how Windows Mobile is not only the most powerful OS available today, but also the most customizable. Great work.

Improve Touch HD Recorded Video Quality

XDA Developers have found out that if you do a simple registry edit, you can noticeably improve the quality of the videos recorded with the HTC Touch HD.

Basically the registry edit lifts Task Manager's low memory limit with reference to the camera application, from the default 4MB to 8MB, so it will require more memory to run, but this one would go unnoticed due to the considerably high amount of hardware memory these devices come with.

Download and run the cab, it will only change one registry value: in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HTC\Taskmanager\Lite it will change "DesiredMemory" to dword: 8192 (default was 4096); don't forget to soft reset your device.

Note: Since this does not look like model specific, chances are high that it would work on Touch Diamond, Touch Pro, variants or even other HTC models running HTC's Task Manager.
