Hitachi has just rolled out a new W63H clamshell handset which will feature the following specifications :-

    * 3.1" OLED display at 480 x 800 resolution
    * 1-Seg support
    * 123 grams
    * 50mm x 110mm x 17.4mm

No idea on how much it costs though, but you can get it in orange, black and white shades.

Hands-on Mobile delivers full-service Mobile games platform



Hands-On Mobile (known for Mobile games like Guitar Hero and World Poker Tour) has announced the release of a development and distribution platform that it says will allow developers to run games on all networks, O/S variants, and devices…

Java was the original big solution to all of these problems, but it didn’t solve much in the end - some games have tens or even hundreds of variants, just to run a single title across most device types.

Hands-On Mobile believes it offers game and mobile application developers a better solution with its new Hands-On Mobile Developer Network, or HDN, by providing them with the same platform it used to build its popular mobile games. On the client, HDN delivers a small piece of run-time code that will run HDN-developed games and apps on a wide variety of devices. Also required is HDN-specific server-side XML code that lets the network talk to the device and exchange data…

I have to say I have seen solutions like this before - and none has worked yet. Now that doesn’t mean that Hands-On won’t crack it - in fact I’d love to see them do it - but what it will depend on is buy-ing from developers, device vendors, and Operators - and from practical experience I can tell you that is no mean feat!

Alcatel OT-I650 is a simple phone with G-sensor for active individuals



It’s not that often that we hear about some new Alcatel phone. The French company seems to have almost abondend its handset business, hence the device we’re showing you today, Alcatel OT-I650, is manufactured by China-based TCL Communication Technology.

Anyway, the candybar-shaped device is made for those that don’t want a smartphone with its complicated mambo-jumbos. Rather the individuals Alcatels is targeting want a simple and easy to use phone that fits their active lifestyle. That being said, the Alcatel OT-I650 does go beyond “classic” low-end phones we’re seeing thanks to the built in G-sensor (accelerometer), which allows users to switch between apps by shaking the phone. In that sense, this device reminds us such handsets as Nokia 5500 or Sony Ericsson W580, though the mentioned two are way more capable than Alcatel’s baby.

In addition to G-sensor, the OT-I650 also comes with a 1.3 megapixel camera, FM radio, Bluetooth, as well as several sport apps pre-installed like pedometer.

The Alcatel OT-I650 will first be available in Russia in two colors (black and orange) for 3,190 rubles, which is about $120.

Softbank introduces Sharp Aquos Fulltouch slider with quasi-XGA resolution



Just when we thought the Touch HD really packed the pixels in, Softbank and Sharp have announced the Aquos Fulltouch 931SH slider, which sports a wild 1024 x 480 3.8-inch touchscreen. That's almost the same res as most netbooks, for comparison -- we're not sure what all that pixel density is good for at this size, but we know we want it. Apart from the screen it's also a pretty solid Softbank 3G featurephone: browser, Bluetooth with A2DP, 5.2 megapixel camera with image stabilizer, accelerometer, 1seg TV tuner, and a media player with microSD expansion. Sure, sure -- but look at that screen, people. That's the stuff dreams are made of. Anyone up for a trip to Japan?

931SH, Sharp's XGA Touchscreen Phone, Hands-on

Today Softbank released Sharp's 931SH, a mobile phone with a slide keyboard featuring a stunning 3.8” XGA (1024x480) touchscreen and a 5.2Mpix AF camera.

It also comes with 1Seg, HSDPA, Felica 2.0, GPS, and Bluetooth at a size of 52x115x16mm and only 130g.

Definitely Softbank's best looking and most interesting toy this winter!

Vertu and Ferrari Together Again for Ascent Ti Collection



Luxury cars and luxury phones have been brought together once again, as Vertu and Ferrari have teamed up to bring forth the Ascent Ti Collection. We last saw them together a year and a half ago with the Ascent Ferrari 1947 product line, and are eager to see what they have in store for us this time.

Vertu, Nokia’s subsidiary specializing in luxury phones, has launched specs on its website about the Ti. Here’s what we have found:

The Ti consists of one limited edition phone, the Nero, and two special edition phones, the Rosso and Giallo. The Nero is made of all titanium with crystal sapphire pillows, and is coated with scratch-proof PVD.



For the other two, they feature PVD-coated keyboards and battery covers, as well as ceramic pillows.



Specs for the Ti include:

    * Quad-band GSM/EDGE with WCDMA 2100
    * Weighs 160 grams
    * 5 hours talk time and 300 hours standby
    * Stainless steel keys and sapphire crystal screen
    * Bluetooth
    * Can sync with Macs and PCs
    * 3 MP camera with autofocus and flash
    * 4 GB user memory
    * Ferrari-inspired themes and ringtones

That’s what we have so far. Nothing terribly groundbreaking when it comes to features, but it’s a Vertu. We couldn’t find a price on these phones, but let’s be honest — anyone who can afford a Vertu probably doesn’t look at price as a huge factor.

Vertu has announced that only 2,009 limited-edition Neros will be made available, so don’t hesitate!

Nokia E71, N82 honored by Wired Magazine



Two Nokia Symbian S60 smartphones were honered by Wired Magazine’s test issue. The first of the two is the Nokia E71, which I’m currently testing and honestly I’m not surprised to see it praised by Wired. The device nabbed the “Test Best Cell Phone” title, scoring nine out of 10, in the November issue, which is on newsstands now.

On the other end, Nokia N82 was awarded the “Test Best Camera Phone” accolade. Again, there’s nothing surprising here as we know the N82 packs a 5 megapixel camera with Xenon flash.

Naturally, Nokia used the opportunity to issue a dedicated press release. Nokia North America’s Craig Coffey commented: “Being recognized for the quality and beautiful design of our products is something we strive for with each device. The Nokia E71 winning the overall category honors and the Nokia N82 achieving top camera phone status really speaks to the unrivaled array of the Nokia portfolio as a whole.”

Hopefully, Wired’s coverage will help Nokia gain some extra fans in the U.S. and Canada…

Four of the hottest camera phones face off in an 8MP shootout



We told you a few weeks about an 8MP shootout between the LG KC910 “Renoir” and the Samsung M8800 Pixon, but GSMArena outdid the folks over at Mobile@Mail.Ru by doing their own 8MP shootout testing four of the hottest 8MP camera phones out there. In their in-depth review, GSM Arena compares the LG KC910, the Samsung M8800 Pixon, the Sony Ericsson C905, and the Samsung INNOV8.  We wont even try to cover all the details of their 7 page review in a single post. Suffice to say that each camera phone has its own strengths and weaknesses. The Samsung INNOV8 is the best universal performer with excellent image quality, capable video recording, and a large display. The Sony Ericsson C905 has the best camera interface, camera handling, and controls. The LG KC910 has a beautiful high resolution touch screen with well balanced camera features and very good image quality. Last but not least, the Samsung M8800 Pixon brings up the rear in terms of image quality and camera features, but has a well organized user interface and above-average video recording.
