Cigarette pack handsfree headset is bizarre, remarkably addictive



Maybe it's just because we had a rough weekend, but we've yet to piece together what the purpose of this device is. Officially, it's a novelty cigarette pack-shaped earphone headset for Nokia / Samsung / Sony Ericsson mobiles. That's to say it enables you to just talk into the pack rather than into your phone. At just $6.79, we'd love to say this would at least make a good gag gift, but honestly, we can't figure out what's to "get." Hmmph.

Motorola's Blaze ZN4 and Rapture VU30 in the wild



Hey, Verizon customers, you're feeling a little warm to the touch over there. Could it be that you have -- be still our hearts! -- Motorola fever? As Motos go, Verizon's currently signed up to get two of the hotter upcoming models in the next few weeks, the ZN4 Blaze and the VU30 Rapture, both of which have been spied in the wild once more (looking basically ready for retail launch this time around, may we add). The VU30 is a fashion flip that takes some cues from its GSM-based U9 cousin featuring a glossy translucent shell, fat external display, and according to the latest rumors, a September 9 release date. The Blaze meanwhile looks more or less the same as the last time we saw it, leaving us to wonder what possessed Motorola to keep rolling with that eyesore of a giant, red-ringed medallion on the hinged lid. It's also rumored for a September date with destiny, though the exact day is unclear at this point -- and honestly, Motorola, if you want to push that back a month or two to make the badge less obnoxious, be our guest.

Vertu finally prepping 3G Signature



It seems that Nokia's luxury brand Vertu has finally decided to take a bold leap into the 21st century with its top-of-the-line Signature series, blessing it with a refreshed design, 3G for the very first time (though not the first time for a Vertu), and -- get this -- WiFi. That should all make for a candybar that even the peasant technophiles among us can appreciate, especially when you factor in the extra little tidbit that it's apparently sporting an OLED QVGA display (not unlike the just-introduced Nokia N85). We haven't seen anything super official on this yet, but everything jibes: the Signature is long, long overdue for a thorough overhaul, and both WiFi and IECEE certifications exist for a recently-approved RM-266V (historically, Vertus have rocked Nokia model codes with "V" tacked on the end). Of course, unless you wear a monocle, odds are you can't afford this -- but if you do happen to wear a monocle, we'd really like to see.

Casio Entering the 8 Megapixel Camera Phone Game



Casio can hardly be considered a “leader” when it comes to cell phones, especially on this side of the world. When it comes to pocketable digital cameras however, Casio can run with the best of them. So what happens when Casio’s Exilim brand pops up on a sexy 8 megapixel mobile phone? Maybe nothing on this side of the world but hey, we can dream right? The Casio Exilim W63CA far and away looks like the slimmest 8 megapixel shooter we’ve seen to date and likely incorporates the new Omnivision sensor hailed by Casio as game-changing. In terms of known specs, the FCC didn’t let too much out of the bag. We can see the slim clam shell form factor, 3G, a swiveling 800 x 480 pixel display and the 8 megapixel camera of course. Beyond that there isn’t much to tell at this point. Normally that would be more than enough to get some adrenaline pumping but this is almost certainly a handset that will only make its way to US shores by way of tourism and the odd importer. As such, it’s hard to get overly excited about it on this side of the globe. Our Japanese readers should expect a formal announcement from KDDI soon.

IFA 2008: Samsung shows mobile phones from the new GT series

At the IFA in Berlin Samsung is showing for the first time her new GT series to the public. They've brought the i8510 INNOV8, but also the B2700 and the M3510 with them.
The i8510 INNOV8 has been announced officially, the B2700 and the M3510 not yet. We can assume that these devices will leave the factory soon and will be heading for Europe. What's interesting is the fact that the devices are part of the new GT-series. Only devices from the SGH series used to come to Europe, but apparently Samsung is restructuring her series. How and what remains unclear; more later on.




Samsung B2700
The B2700, as shown below, looks the most like the 'rugged'. M110. It's a typical "Out Door" device with additional characteristics. Like an altimeter, digital compass and a step counter. Furthermore, the B2700 is water- and dust resistant thanks to the IP54 certification. Finally the device has a 2 megapixel camera and radio.




Samsung M3510
Another device we've mentioned before is the musical Samsung M3510. The M3510 is not only equipped with a advanced MP3 player, the device also has special music buttons to make the control easier. A 1GB memory card will be provided with the phone as well.




It is still unclear when the devices will become available.

Windows Mobile AppStore called Skymarket in works?



There’s no doubt Apple’s AppStore works, hence we’re seeing Google doing the same for its Android platform. Why would Microsoft rely on third parties like Handango when they can do the similar thing themselves? That seems exactly what they want to do, or at least a job posting at ComputerJobs.com suggests so.

Apparently the upcoming “marketplace service for Windows Mobile” will be called “Skymarket” and at the moment the Redmond giant is looking for a Product Manager to run it. We’re guessing Windows Mobile 7 will sport Skymarket as its integral part and yes, we’re looking forward to see that in action. In the meantime, we’re eagerly waiting for RIM to announce its app store…
