Mancini: a lot has been said about your contract in these days. The absence of your signature seems to be the only blemish at Inter in this moment...
"Those who write or say this are maybe those who were hoping for there to be other situations four months ago... There is no problem of any kind now, we hope to continue to do as well as we have done up to now. This is the most important thing. Yesterday I said my contract is not a formality, and I said this because I think that when a contract ends you sit down and make a new one. You have to understand what the plans are, and understand what the president thinks of his coach, and see what things can be improved together. A contract cannot be a formality, it's not something you sign after meeting for a second."

Is it correct to say that there's an economic problem?
"This is all wrong because we have never spoken about it, never. Every time I have signed a contract, there have always been many other things to understand first. All the rest comes second."

Could it be that Mancini, who is fascinated by British football, will ask for more freedom of movement, a bit like the managers in England?
"We're looking too far ahead... I replied to a question about my contract to clear up a few things I said yesterday, which were interpreted well by some and less well by others. I don't intend to carry on talking about this. Let's talk about football and Empoli, because all the rest is absurd."

But isn't this a strange situation? You want to stay and the president wants to continue with you, but the two of you can't manage to meet...
"It's not a strange situation. We see each other often, we saw each other on Friday evening before Torino v Inter. We could even sit down together on 28 May after the end of the championship, and nothing would change because you can wait two or three months when you both want the same thing. Nothing changes."

Is this why you are so relaxed?
"Right. I'm relaxed, and I was relaxed before when things weren't going that well, and I never asked to renew my contract. This is because when you work and believe in the job you're doing, you know things will change when they're not going very well. And nothing is ever certain in football, but I have always been calm and relaxed, and I still am now. The most important thing right now is to look at how the team is doing and continue on this path."

Were you upset after the defeat in Villarreal last season when they said Inter were looking for another coach?
"After Villarreal I was only disappointed about the defeat. All the rest is a mistaken consideration. Being a coach, and having played for many years, I think I know how things work. I know that when things aren't going well, a coach can risk being sent packing."

Some say Mancini could leave Inter as a winner, a bit like Marcello Lippi did with the national team after the World Cup. Have you ever been tempted to take a year off?
"I wouldn't be able to. I could take twenty days off, but I'd want to be back to work. I'm still young enough to work every year without taking any days' holiday."

But could all the stuff said about your contract be bad for the team?
"But it's you who talk about it, not me... And in any case, I don't think so. The lads are too intelligent to let themselves be influenced by this matter, and their minds are on the championship and the other competitions we are involved in... However, I would like to remind you that Inter play Empoli tomorrow... (smiles)."

INTER SAFELY THROUGH TO CUP SEMIS

MILAN - Esteban Cambiasso and Fabio Grosso scored in either half as Inter registered a 2-0 win over Empoli at the Meazza to complete a 4-0 aggregate victory and set up a Tim Cup semi-final meeting with Sampdoria.

After a sluggish start the game came alive on 28 minutes when Santiago Solari picked out Mariano Gonzalez on the right with a deft touch of the ball. The ex-Palermo winger's fast cross into the area was met at the back post by Cambiasso who lashed home from a tight angle to finish off the Argentine combination and put Inter in front.

Empoli forward Mirco Gasparetto wasted a golden opportunity to bring Empoli level two minutes later, blasting against the bar from the penalty spot after Dacourt brought down Eder to end a mazy run by the Brazilian.

Grosso twice went close to increasing Inter's lead before the break, shaving the post with a low right-foot shot from just inside the area before seeing a powerful free kick finish inches wide of the post via a deflection off Cambiasso.

It was third time lucky for the Italian full-back, who doubled Inter's lead on 77 minutes with a sweetly-struck left-footer that sailed into the top left corner.

Jonathan Ludovic Biabiany and Sebastian Ribas, two of seven Inter Primavera players drafted into Mancini's squad for the cup clash, came on during the second half to make their first-team debuts. Both strikers were presented scoring chances in the final minutes.

Morati i Galijani pod istragom



Vlasnik fudbalskog kluba Inter Masimo Morati i potpredsednik Milana Adrijano Galijani su pod istragom zbog sumnje da su umešani u finasijske malverazije, piše "Korijere delo Sport".

Prema navodima tog italijanskog sportskog dnevnika, tužilac je zainteresovan za to da li su klubovi u knjigama precenili transfere igrača tako što su odmah zabeležili kapitalne dobitke, dok su troškove podelili po godinama. Njih dvojica su pod istragom milanskog tužioca Karla Nokerina.

Novinska agencija ANSA potvrdila je da je istraga u toku, kao i da je skoro završena. Tužilac nije bilo dostupan, dok su u njegovoj kancelariji odbili da komentarišu vesti.

Oba kluba su takođe odbila da komentarišu te navode, ali "Korijere dela Sera" navodi da je Milan negirao da je učinio bilo šta nelegalno, dok je Inter obećao da će predstaviti "tehničke argumete" koji će osloboditi klub svake sumnje.

Tužioci u Italiji već su se više puta bavili neregularnim knjigovodjstvom u fudbalskim klubovima, a pod istragom su bili, izmedju ostalih, i Roma i Lacio.
