Lassana Diarra moves to Arsenal

Lassana Diarra to Arsenal was completed just before the close of the transfer deadline last night.

Diarra was spotted by Chelsea playing in an Under 20 international tournament and was offered a trial. He impressed sufficiently to become a £1 million addition to the squad in the summer of 2005.

He was signed from French second division club Le Havre where he had been named their Young Player of the Year in 2004.

After two substitute appearances in the Champions League in his first season, a full debut was handed out against Huddersfield in the FA Cup in January 2006 and the Paris-born defensive midfielder was soon earning comparisons with Claude Makelele.

There were a few differences in style of play however and last season he also proved capable at right-back when given an extended spell in that position, gaining a Carling Cup winners' medal there against his new club.

A former Chelsea Young Player of the Year, he became a France Under 21 and then a full international while at the club.

In total he started 21 games for Chelsea with 10 further sub appearances.

Ševčenko, budi strpljiv

Stiv Klark, asistent menadžera Čelsija Žozea Murinja, poručio je ukrajinskom napadaču Andreju Ševčenku da bude strpljiv i sačeka svoju priliku, kao i svaki drugi prvotimac londonskog kluba.

"Mora da sačeka svoju priliku i kada je sačeka, da je i iskoristi. U istoj situaciji se nalaze još mnogi fudbaleri Čelsija. Didije igra na njegovoj poziciji, Klaudio Pizaro se odlično uklopio, a Kalu je protiv Birmingema bio naš najopasniji igrač. Dakle, konkurencija je veoma jaka", izjavio je Klark.

Tridesetogodišnji Ševčenko stigao je prošlog leta iz Milana za 30 miliona funti, ali je na 51 utakmici u plavom dresu postigao skromnih 14 golova, od toga samo četiri u Premijer ligi.

Tokom leta je bilo reči o njegovom povratku na San Siro, pa čak i odlasku na pozajmicu u Dinamo iz Kijeva, ali po završetku prelaznog roka je jasno da će Ukrajinac morati da čeka, ćuti i radi na Stamford Bridžu.

Steve Clarke today confirmed that Glen Johnson will finalise a move to
Portsmouth before tonight's transfer deadline.

Earlier in the day it was announced that Chelsea Football Club had
agreed terms with Portsmouth for the transfer of the right-back who
spent last season on loan at his new permanent club.

Johnson joined Chelsea in 2003 from West Ham United and started 61
games with 11 substitute appearances during his four years at the
club.

Steve Clarke, assistant manager, and himself a former Chelsea Player
of the Year at right-back, said:

'I think it's a good move for Glen. He's at the stage in his career
where he has to play and he's got more opportunity to there. Obviously
the signing of [Juliano] Belletti moved him down the pecking order.
It's a good move for Glen and a good move for Chelsea.

'Players move. That's football. I think when you pay six or seven
million for a player at a young age you hope he develops and you hope
he gets the chances to play. It didn't quite work out for him.

'We wish him all the best for the future and I'm sure he'll go on to
fulfil his potential.'

Johnson, who was Chelsea's most expensive teenage signing when he
joined, is now 22. He was often first choice during the 2003/4 season
before taking his place in the squad after the arrival of Paulo
Ferreira.

He became an England international whilst at Chelsea but is not a
member of the current squad.

He played 28 games under the eyes of Harry Redknapp and Tony Adams
during his loan last season.

EXCLUSIVE: Roman fury at Jose's tactics

ROMAN ABRAMOVICH walked into the Chelsea dressing room with a face like
thunder.

He had just seen his team go top of the Premier League with a 1-0 win over
Portsmouth...but that was little consolation.

Even when several players tried to cheer him up with the fact Chelsea were
18 places AHEAD of Manchester United, Abramovich did little to hide his
displeasure.

Because he had sat through another turgid game at Stamford Bridge, 90
minutes where Chelsea barely managed to scrape into top gear and played the
kind of pedestrian and conservative football the Russian billionaire has
grown to despise.

He had made it clear to Jose Mourinho in a summer meeting designed to clear
the air between the two that he would no longer tolerate the kind of
pragmatic style which had become the hallmark of the Portuguese coach's
team.

Abramovich had received assurances both from Mourinho and intermediaries
that Chelsea would play flowing, attractive football to match anything
Manchester United with the likes of Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo could
produce.

The fact he had endured another game where the only highlight was Frank
Lampard's goal merely cemented in Abramovich's mind Mourinho's betrayal— and
explains why the two men are on collision course once more.

Abramovich was already aware Ronaldinho's agent brother, Roberto de Assis
Moreira, was in London trying to broker a move for Adriano from Inter Milan
to Manchester City.

There had been contact between Moreira and Chelsea, alerting the club to the
fact the Brazilian genius might be tempted away from Barcelona. But the
likes of Peter Kenyon had dismissed those rumours as just a way of
strengthening Ronaldinho's hand at the Nou Camp. But the thought of bringing
one of the world's best footballers to the Bridge — even for £85million —
was too much of a temptation for Abramovich.

The former World Player of the Year was just the kind of entertainer
Abramovich craved, a man who would bring the Chelsea fans to their feet and
put a smile on the face of the owner.

Yet instead of the transfer of the century, Abramovich's courting of
Ronaldinho has sent the club tumbling to the brink of another damaging civil
war.

Upset

One Chelsea source said: "There is something boiling up between Roman and
Jose again. Roman is really fed up with the way the team are playing. He
came into the dressing room after the Portsmouth game and you could see how
upset he was.

"He was promised it would be different this season but it's still the same
old style.

"That's why he wanted to find out if he could really get Ronaldinho because
that would have sent out the message to Jose about the way he wanted Chelsea
to play.

"But Jose didn't want Ronaldinho. He's not his kind of player and he
wouldn't have fitted in with the Chelsea pattern. He's also upset Roman
would go behind his back when Jose had done everything to keep the peace
this summer."

Mourinho's anger stems from the fact he has operated within tighter budget
restrictions this summer — on Abramovich orders — only to find the owner
willing to almost double the world transfer record on a whim.

And he is outraged Abramovich would not think twice about foisting a player
on him he did not want.

At the start of his Chelsea reign, Mourinho was offered Ronaldinho by
Abramovich, only to turn the chance down flat.

He explained the Brazilian did not feature in his plans.

Another source close to the Blues boss said: "Jose has always said
Ronaldinho is a great player but that he's never really hurt Chelsea. In the
games between Chelsea and Barcelona, he's had perhaps a 10-minute spell
where he's been hard to handle but he wasn't consistently outstanding.

"Jose felt he'd have to completely reshape the team to even think of fitting
Ronaldinho in — and that's not something he's prepared to do.

"He's done what the Chelsea board wanted him to do this summer by buying
players within the budget but apparently that's not enough."

Tension

There is also tension between owner and manager over the increasing
influence of super-agent Pini Zahavi.

Zahavi was the man who helped bring Abramovich to Chelsea originally and he
played a huge role behind the scenes as the Russian's billions
revolutionised the West London club.

He fell out of favour two seasons ago and was replaced as Mourinho's
agent-of-choice by Jorge Mendes. But Abramovich has turned more and more to
Zahavi in recent months and that has also frustrated the Chelsea boss.

Ševčenko opet u sukobu sa Murinjom



Reprezentativac Ukrajine Andrej Ševčenko demantovao je šefa stručnog štaba Čelsija Žozea Murinja da ne igra zbog toga što nije spreman za napore koje zahteva Premijer liga. Ševčenko će u subotu igrati za selekciju svoje zemlje u kvalifikacionoj utakmici za prvenstvo Evrope protiv Gruzije, iako u prvih pet utakmica u šampionatu Engleske nije bio ni na klupi za rezervne igrače Čelsija.

Takvu odluku Murinjo je obrazložio činjenicom da se Ukrajinac još nije potpuno oporavio od povrede leđa i operacije hernije. U isto vreme, Ševčenko je igrao u prijateljskoj utakmici Ukrajina - Uzbekistan, a u subotu će biti starter u duelu protiv Gruzije.

"Stvarno ne znam zbog čega me Murinjo izostavlja uz ekipe. Ne shvatam šta se dešava. Ipak, nisam zabrinut. Radiću i čekaću šansu", rekao je Ševčenko.

Čelsi je doveo Ševcenka iz Milana u maju prošle godine, a njegov transfer je iznosio 45 miliona evra, što je rekord u britanskom fudbalu. I u to vreme se tvrdilo da je na tome insistirao vlasnik kluba Roman Abramovič, a da je Murinjo bio protiv dovođenja Ukrajinca.

U protekloj sezoni Ševčenko je postigao samo četiri gola u Premijer ligi, a Česli je izgubio šamionsku titlu. U ovom prelaznom roku londosnki klub je angažovao Peruanca Klaudija Pizara koji je odigrao svih pet utakmica u prvenstvu.

Mourinho Hits Out At Ballack And Sheva

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has warned Andrei Shevchenko and Michael Ballack that they are not the superstars of the club and they have to work as hard as everybody else.

From the moment Andrei Shevchenko and Michael Ballack arrived at Chelsea, it seemed as though there was tension between the players and manager Jose Mourinho.

A lot was made of the opinion that Shevchenko was very much owner Roman Abramovich’s buy. Ballack on the other hand burnt bridges when he reportedly underwent surgery in April before the Champions League semi-final and FA Cup final without Chelsea’s say so.

The relationship between the players and the manager seems to have deteriorated over the past weeks, Ballack reportedly off to Madrid in January and Shevchenko public in his annoyance of not getting picked for the first team.

Mourinho has revealed that the two of them need to book up their ideas and start performing if they are to stand a chance of being picked, adding that no the deserve no special treatment.

"Shevchenko and Ballack have to give more because their status is not superior to that of the others," Mourinho told The Sun.

"Each is a champion," he added. "They have quality, status and fame. They're rich and have already won a lot of trophies. All that is an undeniable fact.

"But it's one thing their being the centre surrounded by 20 nobodies, and it's something else these two players arriving at a club where the others are already champions, famous and rich.

"We were prepared to receive players such as Shevchenko or Ballack because they are of the same dimension as those already playing at Chelsea," continued Mourinho.

"Lampard, Terry, Drogba are equal to these two.

"But you can't build anything if you have to have someone special at its centre. When you have a group, everyone has to be equal to achieve the end we all want."
