iPhone OS 3.0 is coming, preview on March 17th



We just got the announcement, iPhone OS 3.0 is coming. Set your clocks, mark your calendars. It's going down March 17th. Apparently, we'll get a sneak peak at the new OS, as well as a look at a brand new version of the SDK. Exciting stuff indeed, and we'll be there live at 10am PST (1pm EST) with the liveblog. Apple's calling this an "advance preview of what we're building," so we're not expecting anything ready to go as of the 17th, but hopefully this will allow developers to start building toward future functionality (hey, how about some push notifications?), and presumably users won't have too many months to wait after that for the real deal.

spremaju sigurno, al sam mislio da ce da izadje na leto kao i prosli...  mozda nas iznenade, a mozda sad izadje soft a posle fon

Spremaju, ali ne verujem da ce predstavljanje biti u Martu, sve mi mirise da ce to biti Jun/Jul 

So it looks like Apple’s planning on holding an event for iPhone 3.0 OS March 17th along with showing off an updated SDK. This would fit nicely with their brief history of having a preview software event followed by a hardware refresh in June/July. As far as what we’ve been told of iPhone 3.0, here’s what we’ve got:

    * MMS
    * Tethering via Bluetooth and USB

We’re working hard to get some more information and know that our list above isn’t exactly thorough, but hey, it’s something! Plus, there has to be copy and paste, right?

Sirius XM developing iPhone / iPod touch streaming radio app



My, my -- now isn't this something? Shortly after narrowly avoiding a dastardly collision with bankruptcy, Sirius XM is looking to connect itself with profitable enterprises in an attempt to build market share and regain interest from budget-conscience consumers. Just weeks after hearing that the sat radio company could be preparing a few Sirius / DirecTV bundles, CFO David Frear has now confirmed on a recent earnings call that the outfit is indeed developing an iPhone / iPod touch app. It's interesting to think that a satellite radio firm could be warming to delivering more content via the internet, but it's the apparent diversion from being a standalone offering that has us even more intrigued. It should be interesting to see how the pricing model works with this forthcoming app -- will users be able to get an iPhone subscription only? Will it be tossed in gratis with traditional subscriptions? So many questions, not enough patience.

Mobile gaming pros agree iPhone is tops in industry



When it comes to mobile gaming, the iPhone and iPhone 3G are clearly making strides as an innovative and powerful gaming platform. From 3D action games to more solitary puzzles, the iPhone has access to over 6,000 gaming titles in the highly integrated iPhone App Store - giving the iPhone plenty of options with which to entice mobile gamers. But, it’s not just consumers that have latched onto the iPhone as a legitimate gaming device. The Multimedia Research Consultancy recently surveyed 147 mobile gaming professionals on their thoughts regarding the iPhone as a gaming platform. The results speak for themselves. A resounding 71% of the mobile gaming executives surveyed rated the iPhone as the “best” mobile gaming platform, with 77% believing that the iPhone as “revolutionised the way that mobile games are sold.”

So, there you have it, folks. We already knew the iPhone was a booming success among gaming consumers, but it’s nice to know that the people driving the mobile gaming industry are getting behind the iPhone as well. With the iPhone 3.0 OS likely launching later this year, Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) is poised to take the iPhone to new levels as a smartphone and portable gaming device!

Okay we all knew that it was coming some time soon, but when it actually hits you, the reality is much more exciting than you thought it would be. The iPhone 3.0 is going to be previewed on March 17th, as Engadget reports on the press invite.

Apple’s calling this an “advance preview of what we’re building,” so we’re not expecting anything ready to go as of the 17th, but hopefully this will allow developers to start building toward future functionality.

The event is scheduled for 10 AM PST on the company’s campus in Cupertino. We will list out some good live blogs for you to follow, but you can be sure that Engadget will have their steady stream of updates.

Hopefully this development preview will last till June, when we see an awesome new iPhone, which keeps the competition scattering around fixing their photo copiers. So now that the devil is upon us, what predictions/requests can you make for the new OS?
