Biće interesanto videti kako će da reše problem kompaktibilnosti softvera, s obzirom na tolike razlike u OS-u...

Ne vidim zašto bi bilo nekompatibilnosti, jezgro OSa će verovatno ostati isto.

Android's new app licensing scheme apparently easy to break

Remember that new licensing service for third-party developers that Google started advertising last month? A new exposé on Android Police  claims that it's actually pretty easy to get around -- easy enough so that the crack could probably be packaged into some sort of automated script that breaks protected apps en masse for distribution through pirate-friendly channels. Though that's obviously bad news for developers, it's just as bad for consumers on Android devices who've customarily had less support from top-tier software brands and game studios than Apple's App Store has -- not to say iPhone apps are uncrackable, of course, but considering how difficult it's been in the past to turn a profit in the Android Market, every little bit helps. Let's hope a renewed focus on gaming in Gingerbread helps the situation, eh? Follow the break for Android Police's demo of the crack in action.

Shocker! Google's Android logo boosted from Atari Lynx title 'Gauntlet: The Third Encounter'

Back in the early 90's whilst playing our Atari Lynx -- friendless and alone, of course -- we couldn't have imagined that a second-rate spinoff of the popular Gauntlet franchise would unlock the secrets behind the birth of Google's Android OS. But, lo and behold, what has one of our faithful tipsters found down here, amongst the ruins of Gauntlet: The Third Encounter? That's right, nearly irrefutable proof that the Android team (or at least its graphic designers) have plumbed the depths of Epyx's not-quite-masterpiece for the iconic droid logo we've come to know and love. Sure, the top-down scroller provided all kinds of new character classes like the "Nerd," "Punkrocker," and "Pirate," but only one of these fresh faces would provide the blueprint for Android's public face. It's hard to argue that there isn't some level of appropriation here, given the multiple similarities between the two pieces of art, right down to the antennae, dotted eyes, general size and shape, and even the strip which cuts across the midsection of the bot. Oh yeah, and the character is named Android. We personally would like to hear what Google has to say for themselves in regards to this blatant theft of intellectual property, and as for the Epyx artists who slaved over a hot Amiga to bring this image to life -- the taste of sweet justice is yours.

What's New in HTC Sense for Android?

It seems that two times per year, HTC updates its Sense interface for Android. Today, with the announcement of the Desire Z and Desire HD, a wide swath of changes were shown for HTC's proprietary Android interface. This is obviously important to those of you that plan to get the Z or HD, but it's also important for anyone that runs a custom ROM, because it will only be a matter of time before ROMs for other devices are baked with HTC's latest version of Sense. Here's a look at what's new!

1. Recent apps. This is super cool! Instead of tapping and holding the home button to quickly toggle between apps, you can do this via the notification area. Feels a bit Apple-esque.

2. Maps. HTC has added their own mapping system called Locations, which will pre-cache mapping data on your storage card. That means that you'll no longer need an internet connection to access Maps, plus it'll mean no more gray-squares that occur when the device is pulling map data from the cloud. See a demo at Engadget.

3. Landscape Sense. Finally, the Sense interface works in landscape orientation! HTC had to re-do its widgets to work in both orientations.

4. New email interface. Minor visual changes like a larger "compose mail" button give the email program a more refined look.

5. Extremely fast boot up. The Desire and Legend, which before today was HTC's latest and greatest Android phones, can boot up in about 45 seconds. The new Desire Z and Desire HD can boot up in about 10. Wow!

6. Camera application. The camera app has been redone with quicker access to tools to allow you to manipulate your images.

7. Status updates in caller ID. When someone calls you, you'll not only see their picture and number in the caller ID, but you'll see their latest update from Twitter or Facebook.

8. Other stuff. There's a lot of other minor changes. For example, you can flip through Scenes (preconfigured widget configurations) in a 3D view. Along those lines, the "add widgets" screen is now better organized. Also, the button on the right side has changed from a "+" into a canvas. Finally, the Car Panel design has been updated.

9. Online management. From HTCSense.com, you can remotely wipe your phone, keep SMS and contacts backed up, and more. Currently, the website is password protected, so we can't see much.

Gmail update in the Android Market, brings priority inbox to mobile

Gmail just got an update to add some of those cool UI improvements -- and it's been moved into the Android Market. This means that from now on, you won’t have to wait for system updates to get Google’s latest and greatest e-mail client. You will find some pretty cool improvements in this particular update including a much better implementation of how "quoted text" works within e-mail threads as well as limited (for now) support for Google’s new Priority Inbox feature – just be sure to enable it on your desktop version of Gmail first.

You need Froyo to take advantage, and we've got the download links after the break.

HTC Spain Says Current Android 2.2 Sense Devices Will Get New HTC Sense?

The first thing on everyone’s minds when HTC announced the new version of their Sense UI alongside the HTC Desire HD and the HTC Desrie Z was “would other current HTC Sense devices be getting this update?” That answer may be yes if HTC Spain’s Twitter account is to be believed. (It’s imperative to note that I can not confirm this Twitter account to be official at this time.)

The Desire and rest of terminals with version 2.2 (Froyo) will be able to enjoy the #Htcsense a greeting

That was a translation of a tweet that posted on September 16th. I’m going to do some more digging to see if this Twitter account is endorsed by HTC, but I think it’s safe to say that many Desire, EVO 4G, and Incredible users will be enjoying this new HTC Sense before too long. As for anyone else, I guess that’d depend on if you’re ever going to receive an upgrade to Android 2.2 or not. At least for the HTC Hero and the HTC Droid Eris, we can confirm that won’t be the case.

Paid apps coming to more nations, Google tells developers

Google just dropped word to developers that paid apps are on their way to 14 more markets. It didn't specify which nations will be getting them, but we do know that paid apps have been in testing in India.

Getting paid app markets to the rest of the world has been a pretty big hurdle for Android, and it's good to see the market's finally opening up. Expect word on which nations will be added in the coming weeks. Full text of the e-mail is after the break.

Citat
Hello,

We're writing to inform you about some changes to Android Market that require your attention.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be adding paid apps support for additional countries.  If you have selected to publish your paid apps to all locations and intend to support all new locations as we expand the number of supported countries for paid apps, you don’t have to do anything.  If you have selected to publish your paid apps to all locations but intend to only target the currently supported 14 countries, please update your location selections to target these specific countries.

Please look for follow-up emails when we introduce paid apps support for specific additional countries in the coming weeks.  At that time, you’ll have the option to target these specific countries.

Thanks, and we look forward to continue working with you on Android
Market.

Sincerely,
The Android Market Team

Speed Tests: Benchmarking the Android browsers

With an open ecosystem and unrestricted market, consumers always benefit by having the option to choose which product they want to use.  One of the best examples of this is the number of web browsers available to consumers on the Android Market.  Yes, many of them have unique features that give each of them a small advantage over the competition, but I’m sure we can all agree that speed is one of the main concerns for most of us.

To help us sort everything out, PC World has pitted some of the most popular Android web browsers against each other to see which one rises to the top.  To be honest, the results should not be shocking to most of you who have used other browsers than Google’s stock option, but we were a little taken aback by the fact that Skyfire 2.0 did take the number one spot.

If you have never tested out any of the browsers features in PC World’s test, we’d highly recommend you head on over to the Android Market and give a few of them a try.  Skyfire 2.0, Opera Mini, and Dolphin HD all offer a pretty unique browsing experience that you simply don’t get with Google’s stock browser.

We’d be interested to hear which browser you use on a regular basis. Leave us a note in the comments to let us know which is number one on your Android phone.
