Behind the Song:
"Sitting down at the piano, I put my hands on an F-sharp minor and sang the chorus, You?re everything I ever wanted and never knew I needed. I thought, ?does that make sense?? and I decided it did. It reminded me of the prodigal son who turned his head toward home as he sat in a pigsty and thought to himself, ?I can?t believe I left! I never knew how much I needed my father?s love, protection, and security.? I thought about that aspect of the parable and realized, no matter how far we run, we can?t escape the love of our Heavenly Father?we cannot hide from his love. The music to the verses flowed out exactly as you hear it now, but the words didn?t come together until several months later when I was doing some co-writing with Jason Ingram. With the help of Jason?s brilliant lyric ability, the verses emerged as we talked through the prodigal son?s mindset and his journey. My favorite concept in this song is in the first verse, and it?s actually where the album?s title came from. I picture a wayward son pleading to God, begging for a sign: ?show me You actually care about me!? He asks for a sign, and yet God has been whispering His love to him in the wind and shouting it in the waves all along." - Aaron Shust

Behind the Song:
"Every month, my ?D-group? would read a chapter from Rob Bell?s book Velvet Elvis and discuss it. After reading each chapter, I would write down corresponding passages in the Bible to study, as well as a verse to commit to memory. The verse that I chose for that day was Matthew 11:28-30. Rob Bell?s chapter for this particular month was called ?Yoke,? and it explained how, in Jesus? time, Rabbis had teachings or perspectives that were, by default, different interpretations of Scripture rather than other Rabbi?s teachings. Each Rabbi?s teaching was called his ?yoke.? Up until then, I thought that a ?yoke? was simply some sort of harness for oxen. Now it makes even more sense when I consider that Jesus said His yoke was easy. I had put off memorizing the verse and was facing the embarrassing prospect of having to admit I had not properly memorized it. So, I pulled the verse up on my phone (isn?t technology great!) and made up a melody to the verse to help me remember it, and it became this song." - Aaron Shust

Behind the Song:
"I don?t know how anyone who has ever flown in an airplane can look at all the amazing sites of nature and not believe in a Divine Creator. I was reading Psalm 148 and noticed how God set all these things in place: the sun and moon, morning stars, rain clouds, hurricanes, fire and hail, snow and ice, snakes and birds, kings, leaders, men and women, ?greybeards? and children. The psalmist calls all of God?s creation to give praise to Him who created them, and then mentions that out of all these things, He?s built a monument?not the Himalayas or Mount Fuji, but us! ?His very own people!? It blows my mind that, out of all of the amazing natural wonders I can see from 40,000 feet, God chose humans to be the monument that points to His worth and His glory more than anything else. I was reminded of King David?s prayer: ?Create in me a clean heart, oh Lord my God, and renew a right spirit within me.? My prayer in this song is directed to the Creator of the Universe, acknowledging all that He has done, and then asking that He would create again, but this time, in me." - Aaron Shust

"This reminds me of a song I grew up singing in church: ?Faith is Like a Child.? Children are rarely, if ever, skeptics. They believe anything you tell them because they have no reason not to trust you. ?You are the adult; you know what you?re talking about; I trust you.? Of course, we adults know that we are fallible and make mistakes all the time. God, however, is not fallible and does not make mistakes. Oh, that we would take Him as His word, and just believe Him with a childlike faith! When things as drastic as Hurricane Katrina or 9/11 happen, our faith is tested. Will we wait earnestly on Him, like watchmen who long for morning to come? Will we trust or will we lose faith? "This song comes from the book of Revelation, Chapters 4 and 5. Those chapters describe a scene around the throne of God where all creation sings that only Jesus is worthy to receive power, wealth, wisdom, thanks, honor, glory, blessing, and praise. I tried to capture that feeling of grandeur, rapture, and transcendence in this song. The prayer at the end, ?Let All I Do,? was a tag that my friend Ryan and I wrote, and we would incorporate it at the end of Billy Foote?s great worship song ?You Are My King.? I wanted to include it somehow on this album, and it seemed to fit perfectly with this song. " - Aaron Shust
