А што су га отпустили?  Smile

West Ham- Villareal 1:1

FULL TIME - The Bobby Moore Cup will be shared between both sides.

90min - Faubert takes it. Upson meets it - but it goes wide. Could have been a dream ending to the day.

90min - Ibagaza takes the free-kick but Green saves. A burst by Reid on the counter finishes with a low cross into the box. Hines was waiting. Corner to West Ham United.

90min - We are playing two minutes of added time.

90min - We are into the last minute. A chant of Bobby Moore's name fills the stadium from the Centenary Stand lower.

88min - Reid tricks his way past his man and again gets down the left. The defender recovered well.

87min - Behrami has worked hard on his first taste of the Boleyn Ground. He has kept going from start to finish and weighed in with some good challenges.

86min -Well played Faubert. Good skill on the right but his cross was cut out.

84min - It has been a rousing contest but will there be a winner? The trophy will be shared if no one else scores before full-time.

83min - Eguren is off and Josico is on.

82min - Sears had the ball in the net from Davenport's header down. Offside - looked a close one though.

81min - What a great move. Davenport played a tremendous 40-yard ball that just dropped well for Reid. He found room and crossed from the left. It reached Hines who took control, held it up and touched off for Sears. Diego Lopez did well to save from close range.

80min - Noble is going off to be replaced by Zavon Hines, who has been scoring goals for fun during pre-season.

79min - Well played Upson. He heads away just as Villarreal were building up a head of steam.

78min - Godin is going off and on comes Pascal Cygan.

77min - Bowyer, Faubert and Reid all combine well. Eventually Villarreal do enough to win back possession.

75min - A booking for Diego Godin. He upended Behrami as he raced through. Cani also got a card there for protesting.

74min - Cani edges into the penalty box and then hits one. It goes straight at Green. Cole goes off to a good reception for Freddie Sears.

73min - Still the rain keeps coming down. The players are doing well to keep their footing. Faubert tries to feed one through to Cole but it is just over-hit.

71min - Well done Davenport again. A good sliding tackle on the edge of the area. It is then Behrami who tides up after Soriano found room. Good pressure by the visitors.

70min - Reid is penalised for a foul on Pires. Villarreal take the free-kick quickly and Davenport heads behind.

69min - Freddie Sears is waiting to come on.

68min - Booking for Eguren. Bowyer is down after his challenge but soon picks himself up.

67min - Two more changes. Franco is off for Joseba Llorente and Javi Venta has made way for Angel .

66min - Green does well to claim after Pires had jinked his way into the penalty area before standing up a cross to the far post.

64min - Reid crosses from the left. It reaches Cole who holds it up before laying it across goal. Faubert was coming in but just couldn't get there. Corner but it comes to nothing.

63min - The referee is talking to the two captains. The temperature has been rising in this one.

62min - Bowyer is penalised for a foul on Edmilson. Kyel Reid is coming on for Etherington. He is getting a great response as he goes on.

60min - Parker concedes the corner after Pires tried to cross into the box.

58min - Lucas Neill lofts one for Cole to chase. The No12 gets there and hits a half-volley just wide.

57min - Etherington is having a great game. Another surging run on the left leaves visiting defenders behind. His cross is deep but Lopez comes and claims.

56min - Davenport chests back to Green to end a Villarrealy foray forward. The centre-back has done well today.

55min - Faubert takes it. His fierce shot is only parried by Diego Lopez in goal but no West Ham United player is on hand to follow up.

53min - Cole has worked hard in a lone strikers' role this half. He just beat three men before going down. Noble then picked up the ball but was upended. A few words are being exchanged. Free-kick to West Ham United on the edge of the area.

52min - Edmilson hits one from range but it smashes against Bowyer.

51min - Ibagaza does well but is dispossesed by Bowyer.

49min - Faubert lets fly with a great effort from 30 yards. He is playing wide right. Behrami has gone to right-back and Lucas Neill is over at left-back.

48min - Etherington breaks again. This time he is closed out of it just as he gets near the penalty area.

46min - Ashton and Thatcher have been replaced by Julien Faubert and Lee Bowyer. Villarreal have introduced Bruno Soriano , Ariel Ibagaza, Cani and Edmilson. Marcos Senna, Santi Cazorla, Matias Fernandez and Joan Capedvila have made way.

HALF-TIME

44min - A great ball out by Upson sets Etherington away. The ball just runs out of play, though.

43min - Now Parker throws himself in front of Robert Pires' shot. Capdevila then finds Franco but Upson deals with it well.

42min - Parker blocks Senna's shot. Joan Capevila looks to make space on the left but Noble is there this time. The midfield are working very hard.

41min - Behrami does well to get away from Senna. Villarreal soon regain posession though and look to break again.

37min - Franco is booked for a late challenge on Neill who was getting away from him.

36min - GOAL! - Santi Cazorla nets from eight yards out after another attack. There was nothing Green could do about that.

36min - A combination of Green and Parker deny Franco from close range.

34min - Sublime play by the home team. Thatcher started it off before Noble burst over midfield and set Etherington away. He played in Ashton and he fed the ball across goal for the on-rushing Cole. Just as the striker thought he had his second, Villarreal manage to block.

33min - Noble takes it but cannot keep the set-piece on target.

32min - Sebastian Eguren fouls Noble on the edge of the area. Another shooting opportunity?

31min - Noble heads behind for another Villarreal corner. The Yellow Submarine are getting stronger. This time Behrami clears the danger and Parker races away on the counter attack. Javi Venta's sliding tackle averts the danger.

30min - A spectacular clearance from Diego Godin. Behrami is tricked in midfield by Franco and Villarreal get another free-kick.

29min - Parker shows great bravery to charge down a Villarreal free-kick. Upson then sorts out the danger from the follow-up.

27min - Cole is booked for a challenge on Gonzalo Rodriguez.

26min - Ashton goes down under pressure from Gonzalo Rodriguez. No free-kick awarded.

25min - Green slips as he makes a clearance but no danger.

24min - The game has settled down now after the fast start.

22min - Marcos Senna tries his luck from distance but cannot direct the shot on target.

21min - A terrific run by Etherington leaves three defenders in his wake before eventually being stopped. The No11 is looking lively.

20min - A lovely leave by Guillermo Franco nearly tees up a shot at goal but Scott Parker had read the danger and tracked back superbly. Calum Davenports gets the resulting corner away.

18min - Robert Green claims a lofted ball forward and looks to start a counterattack. The rain is coming down pretty heavily now at the Boleyn Ground but the fans are in good voice.

17min - The corner comes to nothing but West Ham United keep up the pressure. A very good game so far.

17min - Valon Behrami playing out wide does well on the right-hand side and wins a corner. Mark Noble will take it.

15min - It is an entertaining encounter so far. The West Ham United substitutes get a good reception as they warm up.

14min - Great save by Green denies Gonazlo Rodgriguez who had met a corner with a header from close range.

13min - Robert Pires finds space on the right of the penalty area but Upson is quickly across to cut out the danger.

12min - Marcos Senna is seeing lots of the ball as Villarreal look to build from the back. The Euro 2008 winner is the visiting captain.

9min - Marcos Senna plays in a corner from the right-hand side but Upson heads clear.

7min - Etherington pops one forward for Dean Ashton but the No9 just fails to get there before Diego Lopez

1min - GOAL! Carlton Cole scores from close range on 53 seconds after good work by Matthew Upson and Matthew Etherington.

Eh kakav je to bio potencijal, ali dzaba...  Smile

In 2001, Upton Park was home to a group of the most talented youngsters British football had seen—arguably the best since Manchester United's youthful talent in the mid 90's, that included Scholes, Giggs and Beckham amongst others.

Unfortunately, somewhere along the way something went terribly wrong—and today the "Hammers" are an underachieving, mid-table side, when they had the potential to challenge domestically and possibly stake a claim in Europe.

So, does the story of West Ham's demise expose a problem in English football?

How can the Premier League truly continue to expand, when smaller teams with great players have no means of growing into bigger clubs?

I have thought it over countless times, and I'm continually fascinated that this team once had what today are regarded amongst the top British footballers playing in England.

Rio Ferdinand, Michael Carrick, Joe Cole, Jermain Defoe, Glen Johnson and Frank Lampard were all products of West Ham United's infamous academy.

Include players like Di Canio and David James—who signed from other clubs at the same time—and this appears to be a winning formula.

However, West Ham lacked the infrastructure and resources to keep their squad together, and ended up selling their players to big clubs to reduce their debt.

So what chance do smaller clubs have of breaking into the top four and Europe, when the rich get richer and the poor get poorer?

That is meant in the lightest sense, considering the millions of pounds so called "smaller teams" splash out on foreign talent each season. This led me to consider that this might be their most legitimate way of competing with big teams.

Going abroad for talent is the exact answer for trying to turn smaller clubs into more competitive forces—because they simply can't afford big players and their promising youngsters get pinched from them.

If that theory needed any conformation, just look at the recent saga with John Bostock leaving Crystal Palace for Tottenham Hotspur.

This is bigger than West Ham failing to achieve their potential, or whatever financial woes which forced them to sell their best players. I doubt that even at their peak they would have been able to achieve success domestically—considering the relative lack of depth and size in their squad.

It's about the state of British football and the many reasons the Premier League continues to label itself the best football league in the world—but in the long-run at what expense to the national team?

I often find myself wondering whether a British club academy will ever again produce a batch of English talent like Man Utd and West Ham once did.

It's sad that its becomes the norm for club scouts to jet off around the globe to watch obscure under-15 tournaments to recruit a fresh group of talent. And even in this case is that a bad thing for English football?

Yes. You would have to look extremely hard to find Brazilian teams scouting British teenagers to play in their league. After all Sao Paulo, the current Brazilian champions, have a first team and reserve team consisting entirely of Brazilians!

Surely that only makes it easier for their international squads to be truly at their strongest—so doesn't that make their league stronger, considering how it affects the nation's success?

I would like to think so.

Yet Premier League teams seem addicted to attracting the worlds best foreign talent to their clubs, in order to try and increase their success. The example of what happened at West Ham is only the start of the problem.

At the center of why England fail to achieve at international level is the high quality of foreign players in the Premier League, and it will be interesting to see what measures are taken to improve what clearly may become a problem for British football in the long run.

West Ham- Wigan 2:1

Dobro je pocelo, pobeda kod kuce a i Ashton se racpucao!!!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

West Ham United 2-1 Wigan Athletic

On-looking England coach Fabio Capello saw Dean Ashton kick-off West Ham United's season in superlative style at the Boleyn Ground with a quick-fire double on Saturday afternoon.

With England due to play the Czech Republic in Wednesday's Wembley friendly, the once-capped striker could not have picked a better time to plunder two goals inside the opening nine manic minutes, although he was substituted in the closing stages to leave a question mark hanging over any midweek international involvement.  Amr Zaki struck for the improved Latics early in the second half but it was still not enough to prevent West Ham United from collecting their first three points of the campaign.

Curbishley had handed new signing Valon Behrami his Barclays Premier League debut at right-back in a reshuffled defence that saw skipper Lucas Neill switch flanks to left back, while Calum Davenport and Matthew Upson took their places at centre-back, in front of another England hopeful, Robert Green. With anchormen Scott Parker and Mark Noble in midfield alongside the probing Julien Faubert and Matthew Etherington, the West Ham United manager paired Ashton and Carlton Cole in attack.

With seven substitutes now allowed to be named, there were first appearances on the home bench for on-loan goalkeeper Jan Lastuvka and England youth starlet, Jordan Spence, alongside the more familiar faces of Luis Boa Morte, Hayden Mullins, Kyel Reid, Lee Bowyer and Freddie Sears. Steve Bruce gave debuts to summer signings Lee Cattermole, Zaki and Olivier Kapo but the Latics new boys were still finding their feet on the rich, green Boleyn Ground grass, when Ashton got Curbishley's men off to that fantastic flyer.

Indeed, just three minutes were on the clock, when the No9 collected Faubert's slide-rule pass into the Wigan penalty area and, after turning the flat-footed Paul Scharner, he lashed an unstoppable, rising 15-yard shot beyond the well beaten Chris Kirkland. That clinical finish must surely have brought a nod of approval from Signor Capello, who then saw the striker double his tally six minutes later, when he bundled the ball in from a couple of yards after Noble drove Cole's flick-on towards the far post.

With the shirt-sleeved claret and blue fans, amongst an opening day crowd of 32,758, cheekily chanting 'We are top of the league' Cole then saw Kirkland tip over his looping back-header as Wigan well and truly wobbled. On the quarter-hour mark, however, the industrious Cole was back in his own area nodding out from under his own bar and, then he found himself back at the other end, steering the ball to the grounded Kirkland after the barn-storming Behrani squared into the visitors' six-yard box.

Parker was booked for a foul on Wilson Palacios and, although the luminous, yellow-shirted Latics had forced a handful of corners and fired a sprinkling of speculative efforts towards Green's goal, it was the claret and blue jerseys, who departed at the interval well on top, albeit Bolton Wanderers' three-goal lead over Stoke City meant that Gary Megson's men were sitting at the Premier League summit.

If the hosts had got off to an electrifying start in the first-half, Bruce's boys took less than two minutes of the second period to claw themselves back into the contest, when Zaki volleyed in from eight yards after Palacios nodded on Manyor Figueroa's long-throw into the danger zone.  Just moments later, the Egyptian striker might have snatched a second, too, but as he looked to break into the West Ham United area, he tumbled under the challenge of Davenport, who followed Parker into referee Steve Bennett's book.

That was a wake-up call for the home side, who saw the flying Faubert send a 20-yarder into Kirkland's ribcage, before Cole also went close to restoring the two-goal margin, but with Wigan now finding width, Curbishley's men were no longer having it all their own way. With 20 minutes remaining, the injured Ashton walked down the tunnel to be replaced by Sears, while Mullins came on for Parker and then Luis Boa Morte for Faubert

Cole, who was still playing his part at both ends of the pitch, and Sears combined well in the closing stages as West Ham United looked to see out the victory although the Latics continued to press. Curbishley's men had done just enough though to open the season with a welcome win.

West Ham United 4-1 Blackburn Rovers

West Ham United turned on the style to beat Blackburn Rovers on Saturday afternoon and seal the best start for nine years.

Calum Davenport opened the scoring with his first goal for the club on 12 minutes before Christopher Samba turned Mark Noble's effort into his own net eight minutes later. The visitors got back into the match within two minutes through a Jason Roberts strike. Then came Green's crucial match-winning intervention just after half-time, as he flung himself low to his left to save Roberts' penalty. The biggest cheer of the day came when the returning Craig Bellamy struck a stunning late goal after coming off the bench before Carlton Cole tapped in the fourth.

Alan Curbishley had the luxury of naming the same starting XI for the third straight league game. This meant five changes to the team that beat Macclesfield Town 4-1 in the Carling Cup, with Lucas Neill, Matthew Etherington, Scott Parker, Cole and Noble all back. The manager was further boosted by Bellamy and George McCartney taking their place on the substitutes' bench. Blackburn boss Paul Ince, on his return to the Boleyn Ground, gave a debut to Australian midfielder Vince Grella.

The home crowd of 32,905 were in good voice before kick off and the boys in claret and blue responded with plenty of attacking play in the opening exchanges and it was no surprise when they took the lead. A quick break saw Dean Ashton's weighted through-ball release Etherington and he forced a corner. Julien Faubert drifted it in and Davenport rose to plant a header low past Paul Robinson in front of the Bobby Moore Stand.

The defender was making his presence felt at both ends and was responsible for halting several dangerous looking Blackburn attacks. The No27 then gave away a free-kick on the edge of the area, from which Pederson had Green scrambling across his area to see it wide.

United then doubled their lead in the 20th minute. Faubert raced down the right and the French international winger had time to pick out Noble on the edge of the area. He did not connect with his shot cleanly but Ashton was on hand to pressure Samba into turning the ball in his own net.

The celebrations did not last long though as Blackburn were back in it within two minutes. A lucky deflection left Roberts free in the area, the striker holding of his marker to finish via the far right-hand post. The forward was booked shortly after for dissent.

Rovers then suffered the blow of losing Roque Santa Cruz to injury, making way for Matt Derbyshire. The youngster thought he had scored with his first touch, but the effort was ruled out for offside. On a baking hot day at the Boleyn, the temperature was threatening to rise on the pitch too with Andre Ooijer booked for a foul on Etherington as he broke free.

The home side were getting plenty of joy down the flanks. Firstly, Faubert won a free-kick on the right after tangling with Pederson. His dangerous set-piece across goal was just too far in front of his teammates. Etherington then took his turn to show his attacking verve. He outpaced his marker before crossing dangerously to Cole, but the No12 could not quite keep his header down. The striker then fell to the floor but Mike Riley waved away the penalty claims.

The second half started with a free kick to Blackburn. Reid stepped up to take it with the ball hitting Cole's hand and referee Riley pointed to the spot. Roberts took it but Green showed his penalty prowess again with a fine save diving full length to keep it out.

Emerton then had his name taken for a foul on Faubert. The Frenchman was to make way for McCartney in the 60th minute, allowing Neill to switch to right-back and Behrami to move to the right of midfield. The Northern Ireland international picked out Davenport, who saw his chance for a second go agonisingly wide.

Green further excelled himself when he rushed out to meet Derbyshire, forcing the striker to lift his shot over the bar. Bellamy got his long-awaited first appearance since February as he entered for Ashton in the 68th minute. Green had to be ready again three minutes later to keep out Emerton's header while Robinson was alert at the other end to deny Bellamy and then Cole in quick succession. Bellamy was to get a late card but he had the last word with a stunning goal in added time. Cole added a fourth with practically the last kick of the game.
