Reports have claimed that Tottenham are on the verge of announcing plans to build a 50,000 capacity stadium, next to White Hart Lane.

The new stadium which is estimated will cost in the region of £300 million would allow Spurs to continue to play in N17 whilst the new stadium is completed which would be expected to take around Three years to complete, with work hoped to be started before the end of the year.

It will be widely expected that the club would look at assistance from the corporate world to help finance the development, through sponsorship and a naming rights, in a similar way to Arsenal have with their naming their Ashburton Grove site the Emirates.

The ground is also expected to be of a very similar design to the Emirates, with the bowl shaped design currently the favoured idea.

Daniel Levy will have been impressed by the revenue raised from the new Arsenal stadium and would feel confident that despite the huge debt this would place on the club for possibly the next 20 years it will be more than off set by the added revenue through ticket sales and sponsorship. But obviously this will still leave the club with a very large debt to service, which will hopefully not hinder the on pitch development as could be argued has happened with our rivals.

I will be delighted that the club have at last made the decision to commit to a new stadium, but I am still concerned that major issue of getting into and away from the ground will be heightened by the extra fans, unless traffic and rail links are massively improved, which I somehow doubt.

I have always been in a small minority of people who actually favoured a Spurs/Arsenal ground share where both clubs could have had the a superb arena to play without having the huge millstone of covering a the full cost of the build themselves. I remain convinced that both clubs missed a real opportunity to do this at the Point both sides were initially considering new grounds.

I really don't see the rivalry issue as sufficient grounds for argument (though I fully expect to get One). If it works for the Milan's why not North London or even a Liverpool and Everton Joint build?
