There are two games in the second round of the eircom League Cup tonight and of the league's big guns are involved in away games. Drogheda face a tricky Louth derby at Oriel Park with Shelbourne facing a derby against Dublin City at Dalymount Park.

A run of four consecutive wins came to an end for Dundalk on Thursday as they slipped to a loss against Finn Harps. Drogheda too saw their amazing defensive run come to a halt as well as their unbeaten start to the season as they lost 2-1 to Shelbourne at Tolka Park.

Dundalk have already sprung a shock in the League Cup this season, they dumped UCD out in the first round for their first win of the season. Dundalk, like their visitors, may have eyes on something else with them due to face Shamrock Rovers later in the week.

Austin Skelly, Peter Hynes, John Flanagan and Trevor Vaughan are all rated as at least doubtful for Dundalk.

Drogheda are without the injured Stephen Bradley and Shane Barrett but manager Paul Doolin is expected to shuffle his pack in the least important competition the club are involved in this season. A number of players not involved recently will get a run but the starting eleven is still likely to be stronger than at least half of the Premier division's first choice.

Dublin City vs Shelbourne

Despite a good start, Dublin City's form has slumped in recent weeks. They have lost their last four league games, scoring only once.

Manager Dermot Keely is likely to make changes in a hope to spark a better performance.

Shelbourne are one of only two clubs in the entire league still unbeaten. Manager Pat Fenlon is expected to make changes for tonight's game and use players who have missed out recently through injured.

Greg O'Halloran and Richie Baker in particular have missed significant action due to injuries but both took a full part in the pre-match run out before the Drogheda match on Thursday. Glen Crowe could also get a run but Fenlon may not want to take the in-form Gary O'Neill out of the team.
