Montpellier - Chateauroux, pick: 1, kw: 1.9

Despite having lost 3 of their last 13 matches, Montpellier have found themselves sucked into the relegation zone. With 5 games to go they are in the red area and if they remain here after the final matchday then they will be playing national division football next season. This is an unthinkable prospect for the Mosson men and they simply must they themselves out of danger. They do have the capabilities to get themselves out of trouble, but this Friday’s home game against Chateauroux really is an absolute must win. MHSC have 3 of their remaining 5 games at home and they simply must make the most of playing in front of their own fans. They have shown excellent determination in the last few weeks to get points right at the end of games, but now draws simply aren’t good enough. They have to convert more of them into wins because its victories that will keep them in the division. Just 1 win in their last 10 in the major problem so they must put that record right.

Against Chateauroux they play a team in poor form so they have a great chance of victory. If Montpellier can play as they have been doing recently at home, then I see no reason why they cant collect the win they so desperately need. The squad condition could be in better condition although they at least welcome back Victor Montano from suspension. Alexis N’gambi still purges a ban though after his sending off a couple of weeks ago. Midfielders, Padula, Neumann and Darbion are all still on the injured list which doesn’t help. However, Montpellier are favourites to win this game and I think they have the desired level of motivation to achieve success. The crowd could potentially get on their backs if they don’t play well though, so this is also a factor to consider.

Chateauroux travel to Montpellier no longer with anything much to play for this season. The team is going to finish up somewhere in the midtable vicinity, although could technically end up in 6th place if they managed to end the season really well. But I don’t expect they will be too bothered as to their exact final placing and players can now be a bit more relaxed and complacent. Nobody now will want to pick up unnecessary injury and so are less likely to be committed. The Chateauroux injury list is long enough anyway without the addition of any new players to it!.

Les Berrichone have had an absolute nightmare in the last few weeks and at the moment up to 11 players could miss this trip to the south coast. This is nothing new for the team as they have been playing like this for weeks. At the end of the day, their starting XI is far from ideal, but it still has some decent individuals in it. They are unlikely to be turned over easily and are sure to put in a respectable performance. But they have won just 2 of their last 10 and seem to be ending the season with a whimper rather than a bang. The players are less likely to try and prove a point away from home and would rather save up the good performances in front of their own fans. I don’t expect too much form Chateauroux this Friday and little suggests that they will be too concerned about the outcome of this match.
