Misfits and Merlin Creators Combine Forces For The BBC’s Atlantis

So here’s what the BBC has in mind to replace Merlin, and it’s sounds pretty exciting to us! Well, it’s from the combined forces behind Misfits and Merlin, after all – Atlantis.

Atlantis is a new 13 part,  45-minute episode series, created and written by Howard Overman (Misfits, Dirk Gently, Vexed, Merlin) for Saturday nights this Autumn on BBC One

The city of Atlantis is a mysterious, ancient place; a world of bull leaping, of snake haired goddesses and of palaces so vast it was said they were built by giants.

It’s into this strange, compelling realm that the young Jason arrives and an amazing adventure begins, bringing to life the vast store of Greek myths and legends re-imagined for a new generation in an action packed 13-part series.

Executive produced by Johnny Capps and Julian Murphy (Merlin, Hex, As If, Sugar Rush) and Howard Overman for their new production company. It will begin shooting in Wales and Morocco in April.

The series will launch on Saturday nights this Autumn and is executive produced for BBC Cymru Wales by Bethan Jones.

GOTHICA Recruits Melissa George In Lead Role



Hunted and Alias alum Melissa George has been tapped to play a lead role in ABC’s Gothica pilot, Deadline confirms.

Set in the present day, Gothica melds together a mythology that incorporates the legends of Dracula, Jekyll and Hyde, Frankenstein and Dorian Gray. It centers on journalist Grace Van Helsing (Janet Montgomery) who takes over her family’s hometown newspaper.

George will play the formidable and cunning Fiona Hunter, who will test each of the central characters.

George played another ‘Hunter’ on the Cinemax/BBC co-prduced Hunted. While the BBC cancelled the series Cinemax and EP Frank Spotnitz are planning to continue the story in a spin-off said to be more Sam Hunter focused. Should Gothica go to series it remains to be seen what this would mean for George’s role in a prospective Hunted 2.

Syfy Greenlights New Ron Moore Series, Helix

Syfy has given 13-episode order to a new sci-fi series created by Ron Moore (Battlestar Galactica), currently going by the working title Helix, reports ComicBookMovie,

The green light was announced today by Mark Stern, president of original content at Syfy. The series will be produced by Sony Pictures Television.

Helix is described as an intense thriller about a team of scientists from the Centers for Disease Control who travel to a high-tech research facility in the Arctic to investigate a possible disease outbreak, only to find themselves pulled into a terrifying life-and-death struggle that holds the key to mankind’s salvation or total annihilation.

As IO9 has pointed out, it sounds a lot like the Moore’s rejected pitch for The Thing remake. The pilot script, however, has been written by Cameron Porsandeh, who will also serve as co-executive Producer, so it’s probably just a coincidence.

“With its well-drawn characters, taut drama, and incredible production team, we couldn’t be more excited to see this intense thrill-ride of a series come to life,” said Mark Stern

Helix could be ready to debut later this year.

Zloglasnog britanskog pirata koji je bio strah i trepet na Karipskom moru od 1716. do 1718. godine, igraće popularni Džon Malkovič u seriji "Crossbones".

Za scenario je zadužen Nik Kros, koji je pisao za seriju "Luter", a koja je emitovana na BBC-iju. Prva od deset epizoda serije, u produkciji američke TV mreže NBC, biće emitovana iduće godine.

Radnja serije "Crossbones" smeštena je 1715. na ostrvo Nju Providens, na Bahamima, gde je Edvard Tič, poznatiji pod nadimkom Crnobradi, vladao nad grupom lopova, otpadnika i mornara.

"Poslednje tri decenije, Džon Malkovič zauzima posebno mesto u svetu međunarodnog filma, pozorišta, pa čak i opere. Uzbuđeni smo mogućnošću da njegovo briljantno glumačko umeće prikažemo i na malom ekranu", kazao je jedan od producenata serije.

Ulogu čuvenog pirata prvobitno je bila ponuđena Hjuu Loriju.

Amazon orders 'Zombieland' pilot

Amazon is adding a pilot based on 2009’s hit action-adventure-rom-com Zombieland to its slate of original programming. The film’s writers, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, are writing the pilot; producer Gavin Polone is also returning. Filling in the roles of Woody Harrelson et al. are Kirk Ward, Tyler Ross, Maiara Walsh, and Izabela Vidovic. A statement from Amazon says that the show will follow in the same storytelling footsteps of the film, “and finds four survivors outwitting zombies and searching for a place to call home.”

The pilot will be released in unison with the rest of Amazon’s projects, which include six comedies and six children’s shows. In contrast to Netflix, which ordered its original shows straight to series at a price tag of many millions of dollars, Amazon is committed only to the pilot stage — and then, using customer feedback (and other special ingredients), will decide if it wants to go forward.

Quest For The New BSG: Syfy Pilot-Orders Bryan Fuller Space Opera, Various Space Projects In Development


In a bid to fill the void left by Battlestar Galactica, Syfy has ordered Bryan Fuller‘s High Moon to pilot and have put several other alien/space projects into development.

High Moon

Plot:An imaginative, out-of-this-world series exploring what happens when the countries of Earth establish colonies to mine the Moon’s resources and discover a new form of life.  Chaos erupts in a genuinely emotional, humorously thrilling and always unexpected fashion as the people of the Moon race to uncover this life form’s powerful secrets. Co-executive producer/writer: Jim Danger Gray (Pushing Daisies). Executive producer/writer: Bryan Fuller. The pilot is written by Gray from a story by Fuller and Gray. Orion

Plot:In this space opera Orion, an adventurous female relic hunter, tracks down valuable artifacts while trying to piece together her past.  Set amidst an intergalactic war pitting humans against a terrifying alien race, Orion must decide whether to use her abilities to save herself or commit to the cause and unearth long hidden artifacts that could free all of humanity from a horrible fate. Sojourn

Plot:The first detective ever in space is tasked with investigating a murder on a starship — headed to colonize another planet -­ and instead becomes embroiled in a vast conspiracy involving a mysterious terrible crime dating back to the original launch of the ship 50 years ago. Phil Levens (Smallville) will write, with Blum (Paranormal Activity) on board to produce the Lionsgate entry.

Clandestine

Plot:After a clan of bandits are nearly destroyed and left for dead by Coalition forces, they take refuge in the nearest safe haven, a derelict Coalition starship floating in space. Once onboard, they masquerade as Coalition officers while continuing their criminal ways ­- until they stumble upon a shocking realization about the true nature of the Coalition. Todd Stashwick and Dennis Calero will write, with Hurd (The Walking Dead) and John Shiban (Hell on Wheels) attached to executive produce the UCP project.

Infinity

Plot:When an alien armada is sighted in the region of Pluto, the Earth government turns to a young billionaire industrialist — who has the only ship ready for interstellar travel — to greet the aliens and avoid a catastrophe. Powered by secret alien technology discovered on Earth in the 1960s, the ship engages in a firefight that sends them spinning through a wormhole into an uncharted region of space. Lost in the universe, the team struggles to survive as they encounter new planets and alien species, searching for a way back home. Javier Grillo-Marxuach (Lost) will write the Berman/Braun produced entry from Universal Television.

Silver Shields

Plot:When his father is slain by assassins connected to the government of the large nearby city of Pont Royal, farm boy Caymer journeys there to continue his father’s legacy as a member of the local police force — and to solve the mystery of his father¹s death. He discovers that his simple country view on life is at odds with the big city, filled with orcs and other magical creatures. Robert Hewitt Wolfe (Alphas) will write and executive produce the UCP effort alongside producer Aaron Kaplan.

Shelter

Plot:A massive meteorite is headed toward Earth, forcing 30,000 hand-picked humans to live underground in a government funded shelter in order to start a new society. What begins as a Utopia quickly succumbs to the old human faults and jealousies as certain members of society create alliances to gain favor and power. Meanwhile, things on the surface are not what they seem. Humans slowly realize that this event may have been fated and the survivors meant for a greater purpose in rebooting life on Earth. Bruce Joel Rubin (Deep Impact) will write and executive produce the UCP project with writer/co-executive producer/writer Ari Rubin.

Bad Robot Targets Stephen King’s Time-Travel Novel ’11/22/63′ For TV Series

JJ. Abrams‘ production company Bad Robot is circling Stephen King’s best-selling 2011 novel 11/22/63 with a view to turning it into a TV series, most likely for cable, Deadline reports.

The book follows Jacob “Jake” Epping, a divorced high school teacher who finds a portal that connects to 9/9/1958 and endeavors to prevent the assassination of John F. Kennedy which took place on the titular November 22, 1963.

Bad Robot and time-travel aren’t exactly strangers what with the likes of LOST and Fringe, while King’s works have featured prominently in various BR projects, most recently NBC’s Revolution, which has just been renewed for Season 2. King’s novel Under The Dome is also being adapted into a CBS serial debuted this summer.
