Reja Praises Sosa, Upset Over Expulsion

Edy Reja heaped praise on Sosa and complained about his expulsion from the technical area during the 1-0 victory over Livorno.


It was a tale of contrasting emotions for Napoli manager Edy Reja, who was very pleased with his team’s victory over Livorno but upset over his expulsion from the technical area for dissent.   

“I did not say anything offensive to him [the referee]; he was furious with me for raising my hand but remember Morganti also sent me off when I was the manager for Verona years ago,” he said. 

Napoli are off to a sizzling start in the Serie A and Reja has been more than happy with his team’s performances as of late. 

"The victory was the only thing that mattered to us tonight," he continued, putting his sending off behind him.

"We must keep the momentum going and continue to win games to make this year a success.”

Roberto Sosa scored a late goal to secure all three points for the Azzurri and Reja had some kind words for the Argentine striker.

“He is a good professional and a great example for the young. He could sit and sulk on the bench when he is not chosen to start but he does not do that as he is a team player," concluded Reja.

Napoli Aim High 

The General Director of Napoli believes that the Partenopei will be fighting for more than just the relegation battle this season.


A confident Pierpaolo Marino spoke about Napoli's current moment which sees the Azzurri in fourth place with 10 points in 5 matches, just one point behind the league leaders Roma and Inter.

"Let's enjoy these results," he said following the 1-0 win against Livorno. "Now this reminds us of the golden times, but it's a league table just after a few matchdays and therefore let's not exalt ourselves."

However, when asked if Napoli will be fighting for the survival, Marino thinks it will not be the case.

"It's not up to me to use this term and I never said it. We never thought about it and when some player said it, it was to keep the concentration high and the feet to the ground, because even they know the strength of this team.

"We play a game at a time, trying to do our best," he concluded.

De Rosa: Napoli Match Will Be A Football Festival 

Genoa defender Gaetano De Rosa is looking forward to Sunday’s clash with Napoli and believes it will be a match to remember.


The last time Napoli and Genoa met there was a carnival atmosphere at Marassi as a 0-0 draw promoted both teams to Serie A. 

There will be no fans to greet the players on Sunday as the Italian league has ordered for the game to be played behind closed doors due to the misbehaviour and missile-throwing of some Napoli fans during yesterday’s game against Livorno. 

Nevertheless the 34-year-old De Rosa, who started his career in Naples, still believes the game will be a great showcase.   “Sunday at the San Paolo will be a football festival,” said De Rosa.

“We are waiting for a day of great sport. Napoli are a team to be feared. They don’t concede many goals and they are very balanced in all departments. 

“Ezequiel Lavezzi and Marcelo Zalayeta are two great players who are both demonstrating in full their value. 

“We want to give our utmost and maintain a good attitude on the field, just like we did against Udinese.”

Montervino: Solid Group Behind Napoli's Success 

The midfielder of Napoli made his Serie A debut on Wednesday as his side defeated Livorno to jump into the top positions of the Italian topflight following their promotion from Serie B.


Francesco Montervino and the Partenopei will be facing Genoa on Sunday, where the last encounter between the two sides had sent both teams to Serie A last season, a day which the Napoli midfielder will never forget.

"I have that day tattooed on my body and in my heart," he declared referring to the game which ended in a draw and mathematically promoted both Napoli and Genoa to the Italian topflight.

On Wednesday against Livorno, Montervino made his debut in Serie A.

"I came in and we scored a goal...what a debut!," he said.

Now against Genoa he hopes to be part of the match again.

"I hope to be among those 18 players on the pitch and on the bench against Genoa. We are doing well, because there's a solid group at the base of our success," he confided.
