Mano says Ronaldo should be back against Sao Paulo.

Finally!! Ronaldo should be back soon according to Mano Menezes. The coach admitted that he doesn’t want to lose the phenomenon again and would prefer that Ronaldo return during the derby against Sao Paulo on the 27th of September.

“Maybe he will come back before Sao Paulo. With a little more security, now is the time to put him on the field,” said Mano.

There is a chance that Ronaldo could return earlier but Mano would like to keep a close eye on his recovery while training in Itu.

“If (the recovery) goes okay, then he may return a game before but it all depends on the ability to enter without any risk or difficulities,” pointed out the coach.

“There is an enormous desire to see him perform again but let’s not burn any stage (of the recovery). We can not run the risk of having a great setback and lose him for another ten games,” concluded Mano Menezes.

Ronaldo begins physical training with the team for the first time

Ronaldo has begun training with his team mates after having to sit out since injuring his left hand.

The phenomenon is recovering well and even scored a goal in a training match but showed signs of fatigue during the end of the session.

Ronaldo wore a protective band on his left and at one point fell during the training session but did not complain of any pain in the hand, which is an excellent sign.

Ronaldo has confided to friends that he would like to return in the game against Goias on the 20th of September at Pacaembu. However, Mano Menezes has stressed that he would prefer Ronaldo to return on the 27th of September to avoid any risk of injury.

“Ronaldo is incredible in that respect. He has lost the fear. It is we who is strict as we know what we need to do at this time. The medical department is very responsible for this type of decision and we have had success so far in following their orders. With Ronaldo, we have shown the importance of following each step. I think we can keep the same perspective on his return,” said the coach.

Mano Menezes ideally would like Ronaldo to return on the on the 27th of September. This is due to the advice from the Corinthians medical staff and this will ensure that Ronaldo is fit and injury free.

“I never established a deadline for the return of Ronaldo. In training is what really determines if a return is possible. He is moving well and has a great desire to return but we still need to be careful,” added Mano Menezes.

Ronaldo gains two pounds while injured

Despite all the physical work in training while on recovery, Ronaldo has gained another two pounds. This is a blow, considering Ronaldo was on track of reaching his ideal weight.

Weight gain during Ronaldo’s time away from football is not due to negligence in training or calorie intake. The increase is due to fluid retention, a fact quite common in people who carry out operations for the removal of localized fat.

Ronaldo has started to recover and managed to eliminate some of the excess weight. Since the 12th of August, Ronaldo has been training physically in the gym. Last week in Itu, he began to participate in work with the ball wearing a foam insert on his left hand.

As usual the technical commitee would not comment on the weight increase. However, they acknowledge that Ronaldo is a little above the ideal. They are hoping that by next Sunday against Goias that Ronaldo will be fully fit and ready to participate in the game.

“We hear alot of talk but looking at Ronaldo he has gained some weight. What is missing is his speed. I think with another week he can recover it,” said the trainer Walmir Cruz.

As previously noted by Mano Menezes, the Corinthians will watch Ronaldo closely and he will only participate in a game if they are certain that he is 100 per cent fit. The expected date is still the 20th of 27th of September.

“If there is any type of accident, as an injury or cold, it will slow the recovery more but we plan to have him back over the next two dates, 20th and 27th. We need to be absolutely sure. There is no point having him back and then he picks up another injury and then he is out again,” concluded Cruz.

Ronaldo trained normally with the reserve team on Tuesday, repeating the work he did in Itu. However, Ronaldo continued to wear a foam insert on his left hand indicating that it is still very delicate.

Happy Birthday Ronaldo

Ronaldo turns 33 today and celebrated last night at Royal Club in Sao Paulo with fiance Bia Anthony. The Phenomenon spoke briefly with reporters as he arrived at the club. Asked about his desire time to cut the birthday cake. Ronaldo replied, he wants to be happy “It is the way.”

Ronaldo also revealed that they both do not know the sex of the baby and when asked what he thinks of returning to the Brazilian National Team. Ronaldo had a short reply, “Penso”.
