"Đoković je baš, baš napet"

Đoković je u subotu posle dvodnevnog maratona savladao Mareja u pet setova i plasirao se u finale drugog Grend slema sezone, treći put u karijeri.

All the numbers you need to know ahead of Novak Djokovic vs Stan Wawrinka in the final of the 2015 French Open on Sunday.

Djokovic 17 – Wawrinka 3

Djokovic has won 17 of the 20 matches he and Wawrinka have played against each other in a head-to-head which dates back to the Umag final in 2006 (and Djokovic also beat Wawrinka in straight sets in a Challenger in Aachen two years before that). That’s an impressive 85% of matches won by the Serb.

Two of Wawrinka’s wins came back in 2006, when Djokovic retired against him in the Umag final and lost 3-6, 3-6 on the indoor hard courts of Vienna. Since then, Djokovic has won 16 of their last 17 matches, with the sole exception being Wawrinka’s 2-6, 6-4, 6-2, 3-6, 9-7 victory in the quarterfinals of the 2014 Australian Open.

In Grand Slams: Djokovic and Wawrinka have played five times at Grand Slams, three times at the Australian Open and twice at the US Open. Djokovic leads their Grand Slam head-to-head 4-1, but the last four have all gone to five sets.

On clay: Six of Djokovic and Wawrinka’s 20 meetings have come on clay, most recently at the Madrid Masters in 2012. Djokovic leads their clay head-to-head 5-1, with Wawrinka’s sole win coming in the Umag final in 2006 when Djokovic retired at 6-6 in the first set.

Grand Slam history

Titles: Djokovic 8, Wawrinka 1 – It took Wawrinka 35 attempts to reach a first Grand Slam semifinal (US Open 2013). Wawrinka became the first man since Juan Martin del Potro at the 2009 US Open to interrupt the Grand Slam hegemony enjoyed by the ‘Big Four’, Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Andy Murray when he won the Australian Open in 2014. It was his first and only Grand Slam final appearance until this year’s French Open.

Djokovic’s Grand Slam breakthrough came in 2008, when he defeated Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the final of the Australian Open, but he would not win another title until his extraordinary 2011 season when he compiled an astonishing record, winning the Australian Open, Wimbledon and the US Open in the same year. He added three more Australian Open titles in 2012, 2013 and 2015 and also won a second Wimbledon title in 2014, beating Federer in the final.

In addition to his eight titles, Djokovic has also reached seven more Grand Slam finals: One at Wimbledon, two at Roland Garros and four at the US Open.

At the French Open: This is Djokovic’s third appearance in the French Open final, after losing to Nadal in 2012 and 2014. The Serb’s overall record at Roland Garros is 42-10 and he has only twice failed to reach the quarterfinals, losing in the second round to Guillermo Coria in 2005 and in the third round to Philipp Kohlschreiber in 2009.

This year marks Wawrinka’s best ever result at the French Open. He reached the quarterfinals for the first time in 2013, losing to Nadal, and lost in the first round in 2014 to Guillermo Garcia-Lopez when seeded third. His overall record is 20-10 at Roland Garros.

Year-to-date record

Djokovic: Won 41, lost 2 (5 titles) – Djokovic holds all the biggest prizes of the season so far, having won the Australian Open and every Masters Series event he has played: Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo and Rome. He is also on a 29-match winning streak, with his last loss coming to Federer in the Dubai final in February.

Wawrinka: Won 29, lost 8 (two titles) – Wawrinka made a spellbinding start to the year, going 14-1 through his first three events as he picked up titles in Chennai and Rotterdam and reached the Australian Open semifinals.

Wawrinka’s quarterfinal loss in Marseille in February was the first of a run of five events in which he would fail to win back-to-back matches. Personal troubles also presumably took their toll, as Wawrinka’s separation from his wife was announced during this time and quickly turned controversial in the press. He bounced back with a strong performance at the Rome Masters, however, defeating Nadal to reach the semifinals.

Clay

Red clay is Wawrinka’s best surface, with the Swiss player compiling a 142-75 win-loss record for an index of .654 (not including this year’s French Open). He has won four titles on that surface, most recently the 2014 Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters.

Clay is only Djokovic’s third-best surface, with a 154-40 (.794) record on the red stuff and 11 titles. Hi last defeat on clay came to Nadal in the 2014 French Open final.

Tie break record – Wawrinka is 13-6 in tie breaks so far this season, and 2-1 at the French Open (losing a second-set tie break to Tsonga). Djokovic is 8-5 in 2015 and has yet to play one at Roland Garros this year.

Aces – Djokovic has served 190 aces to Wawrinka’s 182 so far in 2015, but the Swiss player has served almost twice as many at this year’s Roland Garros, banging down 53 to Djokovic’s 28.

Double faults – So far this year, Djokovic and Wawrinka are almost level on double faults, with Djokovic recording 62 to Wawrinka’s 64. But at the French Open, Wawrinka has paid the price for his higher numbers of aces with 28 double faults to Djokovic’s four.

First serves in – Djokovic lands a much higher percentage of first serves than Wawrinka: 65% year-to-date to the Swiss player’s 59%, and 71% to 50% at the French Open so far.

Wawrinka, however, wins more points behind that delivery, rewarded for a greater degree of risk with 80% to Djokovic’s 75% at the tournament so far (75% to 76% year to date).

Second serves – This is another category where Djokovic has the edge in the season leading up to the French Open, winning 60% of points behind his second serve to Wawrinka’s 56%. However, he also has a substantial advantage this fortnight, winning 65% in his six French Open matches so far to Wawrinka’s 58%.

Winners/unforced errors – Yet again, we see that Wawrinka takes more risks than Djokovic as he has struck 264 winners but 221 unforced errors at the French Open so far (a +43 differential). Djokovic plays more conservatively but his winner count does not suffer: He has hit 257 to 164 unforced errors (a +93 differential)

Time on court – Djokovic has spent marginally longer on court so far than Wawrinka considering they have dropped the same number of sets, taking 14 hours and 12 minutes to reach the final compared to Wawrinka’s 13 hours and 27 minutes.

However, the fact likely to concern Djokovic fans is the idea that he has enjoyed one fewer rest day – playing on Friday and Saturday to complete his semifinal against Andy Murray – than Wawrinka, who had Saturday off after beating Tsonga in four sets on Friday.
