BOUNCING BENNY 

Seeing that his eyes were empty under half closed lids,
Made it all the more disturbing knowing Benny hid
A bump that looked like clods of dirt inside some sickly lung

When you've had as many lovers as I have, a certain
blurring becomes inevitable. This one merges into that,
a she becomes a he, and the he blends into the blobby
mass of everybody. But some do stand out ...eventually
becoming the white thumb in the black palm ...the
albino in the beam of a flashlight. Marie was like that
...I guess it was her innocence that set her apart. I
...I don't normally hold innocence in such high esteem
...everyone has it and everyone loses it ...and
sometimes it's my job to hasten that loss.
As one might expect, coming to grips with the real ME
...as opposed to the dream ME, is an inevitable step in
most of my "encounters." There's always a slight period
of disillusionment, but they eventually get over it
...or not ...whatever ...but Marie ...we were standing
in the kitchen and ...it was almost like she melted
...one moment she was staring at me with a look of
confusion and in an instant she was lying at my feet on
the floor ...as you can imagine, the drama thing really
doesn't work on me, but this was different ...I stood
there looking at her, until ...hesitantly reaching out,
I watched her eyes as they followed the length of my
arm and moved over towards towards the stove ...she had
the oddest expression ...and then, staring at the oven
door, she began to talk ...about the cow ...the old
brown cow and the day the cow died ...and then she
began to blubber like a baby ...like that goddam cow
was her pet bunny and fucking Charles Manson had just
bit its head off ...it really freaked me out ...I think
about her all the time.

BUTCHER SHOP 

When I was a little boy, I didn't have a dad
So I built a miniature butcher shop instead

CONFUSED (BY WHAT I FELT INSIDE) 

I was tanding at the fireplace thinking of my own desire which seemed to
offer me no place to go, when I heard a little giggle, sounding like some
silly piglets playing in the mud so deep and warm. So I went and looked
around and fromhe bathroom door I found some sounds that had not come
fromhere before. So I shouted, "Come on out," and soon I saw them both
look out expressing fear and innocence at once. They said that they wee
haveing fun with something that they found someone had left behind a
basket on the floor.
"Let me see," and so I took it with a snatch that left a crooked smile
across the corner of my mouth. It was a smooth and shiny object with a
purpose and a job I recognized and was familiar with. Looking up I saw one
pair of eyes that somehow now were staring straight into the secrets of my
min. I knew at once it was the she thng, to the they and the he thing
looking back at me and my desire.
Inflamed I reached and pulled her close, but then at once I had them both
off balance and we fell upon the floor into a pile of awkard bodies, with
arms and legs and elbows caught beneath, around and in between us all.
Hastily I helped them up and said that we should soon discuss and try to
understand what they had found. BUt it was too late to do it now, but if I
tell the truth, I was confused by what I felt inside.
