REVIEW: ESPANYOL 1 - DEPORTIVO 2 (LA LIGA)

04 May 2006 -- Deportivo achieved an important win in Barcelona, it's the ninth triumph away from the Riazor tying the historical record of the club. The entrance of Iván Carril was the key moment since the youngster scored the first goal and gave the assistance to the second one. The Galicians continues to occupy the Intertoto place just two matchdays before the liga season ends.

BEFORE THE MATCH
Caparrós left out Iago after six matches in the starting eleven, Rúben Castro was the selected choice to play with Arizmendi upfront. Romero and Héctor played as central defenders and De Guzmán covered the absence of Duscher due to suspension. In Espanyol the big novelty was the presence of Walter Pandiani in the starting eleven, De La Peña wasn't ready to perform and he ended out of the game.

FIRST HALF
Both teams were conscious of the importance of this match and they searched the victory since the beginning. Lotina knew of the defensive troubles in Deportivo and he sent an offensive trio (Pandiani, Luis García and Tamudo) upfront in order to take advantage of the situation, but it was Depor who controlled the first half actions, while the Catalans were speculating with counterattacks.

The first occasion of the night was for Capdevila with a long-distance shot that passed near to the crossbar. After this chance both teams enjoyed of some occasions that nobody knew how to fulfil. The game entered into a tough moment with a hard tackle made by Manuel Pablo against Tamudo. The Canarian was booked and a little fight begun. The Galicians continued to search the goal, they were close to take the lead in two occasions, Ito and Gorka saved their team when Arizmendi seemed near to score.

But it was Espanyol who opened the score thanks to Luis García, the striker sent a shot drilling the ball past Molina from outside of the area. A wonderful and surprising reward for the home since the Galicians dominated the first half actions. The result was almost securing the continuity of Espanyol in Primera.

SECOND HALF
Caparrós sent Tristán to replace Rúben since the beginning, the Canarian striker made a good job supporting the work of Arizmendi during the first 45 minutes, but Depor's coach preferred to search the equaliser with the experience of Tristán. Once again the Galicians dominated the actions, but they were failing to concrete all the chances they enjoyed.

The entrance of Gallardo and Iván Carril were the choices that Caparrós selected in order to open the game on both wings. Meanwhile, Lotina tried to secure the result with the appearance of Armando Sá replacing Pandiani. A defensive change that didn’t work out at the end. It was the medicine applied by Caparrós the one that corrected the problem. Iván Carril scored the equaliser with an a spectacular shot from long distance that entered in the top corner of the net.

Deportivo continued searching the victory and they found it two minutes before the end, it was in a corner-kick that was taken by Iván Carril on the left wing, Diego Tristán headed the ball when he was near to the penalty-spot and it ended at the back of the net. Espanyol didn't have enough time to react and they were only able to see how the victory escaped from their hands.

AFTER THE MATCH
The victory is helpful since Depor maintains the Intertoto spot, Villarreal defeated Málaga and they are now the main rival for the seventh position, the Valencians still two points away. Atlético Madrid and Getafe suffered defeats and their European aspirations are almost over. The big news of the day were the defeat of Valencia in Mallorca and the victory of Barcelona in Vigo, meaning that the Catalans are the champions in la liga. The difference with Celta has been reduced to five points and Depor maintains the dream of reaching a direct spot in the next UEFA cup.

Espanyol had the salvation in their hands and now their future is more complicated, they are only two points away from the relegation zone and they continue to need one more win in order to maintain the category. Málaga is dead already and Cádiz is almost condemn, the last spot in the relegation zone doesn’t have an owner yet. Espanyol, Alavés, Racing and Betis are the teams that will fight until the end in order to avoid it.

REVIEW: DEPORTIVO 1 - ATHLETIC BILBAO 2 (LA LIGA)

08 May 2006 -- Once again Deportivo showed a poor performance at the Riazor, they had the victory in the pocket thanks to a goal scored by Arizmendi during the first half, but in the last 45 minutes several errors and a lack of ambition gave the three points to the Basques. Now Deportivo has lost all the chances to reach the UEFA cup although they continue to occupy an Intertoto spot, a competition that’s the last hope to save a disastrous season at home.

BEFORE THE MATCH
As it was expected coach Caparrós presented an offensive formation with Tristán upfront, Munitis on the left wing and Arizmendi on the right. Iago played as second striker while De Guzmán replaced Duscher, the Argentinean was suspended for this match. In Athletic the veteran striker Urzaiz was selected by coach Clemente in order to lead the salvation dreams of the Basque squad.

Athletic needed a positive result in order to secure the category, Alavés lost in Zaragoza (0-3) and the Basques were only needing a point to avoid the relegation. Meanwhile, Deportivo was needing a victory to secure definitely the Intertoto spot, Villareal drew 3-3 at Madrid meaning that they were one point behind the Galicians.

FIRST HALF
Depor's players knew that a win in this match will secure them a spot in the Intertoto cup, for that reason they searched the victory since the first minutes, Tristán was the most dangerous player during these minutes while the Basques didn't generate any danger.

The desired goal arrived soon, Munitis assisted Tristán and the Sevillan striker sent a shot that keeper Lafuente deflected, but Javier Arizmendi was near and he scored his second goal of the season after missing to connect the ball in the first occasion, curiously both goals were scored against Athletic.

This goal affected the visitors' morale, they started the game using a defensive strategy knowing that a point will give them the salvation, and now the Basques were needing to change the mentality when the game was just starting. For this reason Athletic seemed lost during the first half and Yeste was the only one that gave some troubles to Molina. Deportivo in the other side, continued dominating the actions but the Galicians weren’t able to increase the lead in the score.

SECOND HALF
Clemente reacted sending Etxeberria to the pitch, but it was Depor who continued dominating the actions. Tristán continued enjoying of some opportunities, but he wasn't able to score in his probable good-bye at the Riazor. Then Caparrós decided to replace the Sevillan striker and also Iago. Iván Carril and Xisco entered to the game. Tristán received an ovation from the fans in the stadium although some of them showed their disappointment with the marksman. A new demonstration of the controversy that surrounded him during the last seasons.

The modifications relaxed the environment and Deportivo lost all the offensive potential they showed at the beginning. The situation was helpful to Athletic and the Basques started to push for the equaliser, a result that arrived in a corner-kick that Casas headed on goal. The goal only gave more impulse to the visitors and Depor lost the control over the ball.

Molina was near to save his team but at the end Orbáiz scored the wining goal for his club, Depor didn't have time to react and the fans in Riazor ended the season with a bittersweet taste in the mouth... while the Basques on the stadium were celebrating the salvation.

AFTER THE MATCH
Once again Deportivo failed at the Riazor, their chances of reaching the UEFA cup are gone and the only hope of playing in Europe are related to the Intertoto cup, but first Depor needs to win the last match against Alavés or at least, to repeat the result of Villarreal against Racing. Athletic in the other side, secured their presence in Primera.

It has been one of the worst home seasons of Deportivo, the Galicians only achieved six wins at the Riazor while they suffered eight defeats. The balance between goals scored and allowed is also negative: Depor only scored 19 goals when they played at home, while they allowed 22 goals.

The negative news of the day were the incidents that happened outside of the pitch , before to kickoff, there were a confrontation between some Depor's and Athletic's fans outside of the stadium. As result several vehicles suffered broken windows, but there were no injuries among the public attending to the stadium. One Basque's fan was arrested by the Galician police.

Žuka i zvanično u Deportivu

Fudbaler Partizana Antonelo Žuka prošao je medicinski pregled u Deportivu posle čega je potpisao dvogodišnji ugovor sa klubom iz La Korunje.

Brazilac je izrazio zadovoljstvo što je prešao u jedan od većih španskih klubova i što će imati priliku da igra u Primeri. Žuka je izjavio da mu je cilj da osvaja trofeje, a da je dosta toga o svom budućem klubu naučio od svoja dva bivša trenera, Slaviše Jokanovića i Miroslava Đukića koji su igrali u klubu iz La Korunje.

Žuka nije krio zadovoljstvo zbog prelaska u Deportivo.

„Veoma sam srećan što imam mogućnost da igram u jednom od najvećih španskih klubova i u jednoj ligi jakoj kao što je Primera. Nadam se da ću ostvariti isti uspeh kao i u Srbiji“.

Sada već bivši Partizanov igrač rekao je da se već raspitao o svom novom klubu kod svojih bivših trenera Joaknovića i Đukića, koji su nastupali za klub iz La Korunje.

„Znam da su mnogi Brazilci, kao na primer Bebeto i Mauro Silva, bitan deo istorije ovog tima. Moji treneri u Srbiji, Slaviša Jokanović i Miroslav Đukić takođe su igrali ovde. Dosta toga su mi rekli o klubu i o gradu. Želim da me primete zbog moje igre, nadam se da ću ispuniti očekivanja svih“.

Žuka je rekao da je za interesovanje Deportiva čuo od svog agenta prvi put pre petnaest dana i istakao da se ekipa iz La Korunje nalazi među najboljim timovima u Španiji i da će se boriti za titulu sledeće sezone.

Na pitanje koji su njegovi kvaliteti, Žuka je bio skroman i izjavio da će prepustiti drugima da to procene.

„Teško je da govorim o sebi, ali sam veoma takmičarski nastrojen. Radije bih sačekao i video šta će drugi, gledajući me na terenu, reći o meni“.

Novinari su istakli da se za Žuku često ističe da je veliki profesionalac, što je Brazilac i potvrdio.

„Istina je i verujem da je to jedna od mojih karakteristika. Volim da se pripremim tako da bih bio u najboljoj mogućoj fizičkoj spremi i da pomognem timu što je moguće više“.

Bivši Žukin trener u Partizanu, Miroslav Đukić, imao je samo reči hvale za Brazilca.

„Odluka da se Žuka dovede u Partizan bila je kolektivna. Videli smo snimak i odlučili smo da potpišemo ugovor sa njim, pošto sam želeo veznog igrača koji je agresivan i koji se lako kreće sa loptom. Takođe i nekoga ko je sposoban da igra brzo, da pokreće tim. Sve to je bila istina i ostvarili smo uspeh. On je uvek bio za primer ostalima na treninzima, veoma ozbiljno je pristupao njima. Imate dva tipa Brazilaca: one koji su veoma talentovani, ali se posle praznika ne vrate u tim i nisu previše profesionalni. Sa druge strane imate primer Maura Silve. I u ovom slučaju mogu da kažem: profesionalac sa igračkim kvalitetom“, rekao je bivši trener Partizana i bivši selektor fudbalske reprezentacije Srbije.

Đukić je dodao da zna da će Žuka uspeti u Deportivu.

„On je kompletan vezni igrač. Veoma je ozbiljan i vredan radnik, agresivan, dobro se kreće sa loptom i ima veoma dobar udarac. Siguran sam da će ostvariti uspeh u Deportivu. Voli da se pridružuje napadu i da ima kontakt sa loptom. U Partizanu mi je bio potreban vezni igrač i imao sam Moreiru i njega. Žuki sam uvek govorio da ostane na svojoj pozicji, imao je uputstva da igra kao zadnji vezni igrač, da bude podrška ostalima, pošto ume da osvaja loptu na svim delovima terena. Kao što sam rekao, on je veoma kompletan igrač“, dovršio je Đukić.

Žuka je izrazio nameru da se pre svega oprosti od saigrača u Partizanu, kao i navijača, na meču koji ’crno-beli’ igraju sa Čukaričkim u subotu.

Četvrta pobeda u zadnjih 6 mečeva i sa trenutno 17 bodova 12. pozicija na tabeli. Jako dobra forma u odnosu na start sezone, samo neka piče, da ih ne ureknem.

Dobri su nisu losi, sasvim respektabilna ekipa za prvih 6 u prvenstvu...
