An Easier Way to Go Back in Opera Mobile

This might not sound as news to some of you but I’ve just learnt recently, while playing with my Blackstone, that there is an even easier way of going Back (that is, navigating to the previous page) in Opera Mobile than the default “tap menu arrow – tap back arrow” procedure.

You can easily navigate back one page at a time by using the Back Hardware button on the Touch HD or even the Touch Diamond/Touch Pro. Each touch/press of the button will navigate you one page back, so you’d spare two taps.

Quick Tip: Enable the large Start menu on landscape

Since I got my Touch Pro, I found the large Start menu from HTC to be a great improvement over the original one. For some reason though, the start menu is back to normal when you use the device in landscape.

Thankfully, the fix is easy, just follow the steps below:

   1. With a registry editor (Total Commander etc) navigate to the following folder: HKLM\Software\HTC\EnlargeMenu
   2. Change the DisableLandscape value from its current value (1) to 0.
   3. Softreset your device.

How to Lock/Unlock TouchFLO 3D Programs Tab Items

On a TouchFLO 3D powered device, such as the Touch Diamond, Touch Pro or Touch HD (and variants), you can easily customize your shortcuts in the Programs tab, by adding/modifying/removing items.

There’s a way you can lock your shortcuts so you won’t accidentally delete or modify them. In order to lock a slot, you need to edit your registry by navigating to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Manila\ProgramLauncher

There you will see 24 numbered folders from 0 to 23. Each one of them has a correspondent in a slot at the Programs tab, so that 0 will be the first one and 23 the last one. In order to lock a slot, enter the corresponding key folder (say key folder 0 for slot 1) and edit the value of IsReadOnly from 0 to 1. You will no longer be able to modify the shortcut on slot 1 within the Programs tab on TouchFLO 3D.

Unlocking - as described by XDA Developers - follows the same procedure, only you need to change the value of IsReadOnly from 1 to 0.

Quick Tip for Diamond Memory Conservation



If you text and Email a lot, and I mean a lot, like XDA Developers member intx, you may want to give this little trick a shot.

He has come up with a few simple registry edits to have all mail, including text messages and attachments saved in the internal storage of the device rather than the main memory. The registry edits are as follows:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Inbox\Settings

add “PropertyPath” value=”\Internal Storage\Messaging” datatype=”string”

You can rename Messaging to where ever you wish to store your messages.

After making the edit, clean out your Windows/Messaging folder and soft reset, if done correctly you should have all your messages now stored in Internal Storage.

HOW TO GET ATTACHMENTS TRANSFERRED AS WELL:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Inbox\Settings

add “AttachPath” value=”\Internal Storage\Messaging\Attachments” datatype=”string”

Warning: Be sure to make a backup of all necessary files before editing the registry on your device.

It looks pretty simple to apply and intx also states that he will be posting a .CAB file soon for those of you who arent comfotable changing the registry on your Diamond. So if you own an HTC Diamond and your memory is all tied up, head here for a solution.

How to Get Landscape Keyboard on the Touch HD

In addition to using applications which use the build-in accelerometer on the HTC Touch HD (like GSen, GNes, Flip-It, Gyrator and so on), there is another way to getting landscape keyboard on the Blackstone, which doesn’t involve any other application install.

First thing you need to do is find a way to control your screen orientation. Accelerometer enabled devices have the orientation tab hidden from the Screen settings, so if this is your case, you can unhide them with Advanced Configuration Tool or you can read Adam's take on re-enabling orientation settings.

Here’s a simple way to control orientation. You need to go to Start, Settings, Personal, Buttons and change the preconfigured action of the Answer Key to "Rotate Screen". This way your screen will rotate when you tap and hold the green button. From this point on, it’s very simple. Hold the button whenever you want to go landscape, let it be Excel, Word or any other app (except Opera, which will use auto orientation) and the keyboard will follow orientation.

TIP: Increase Touchscreen sensitivity on Diamond and Touch Pro

azharsunny at xda-developers just posted a great tip on how to increase the touch sensitivity on HTC Diamond. I have tried the registry edits on my Touch Pro and not only they work, but the improvement is huge.

The tweak is rather easy, just follow the following steps:

   1. With a registry editor (Total Commander etc) navigate to the following folder: HKLM/Drivers/TouchPanel
   2. Change the PressureThreshold value to 80866 using decimal
   3. Navigate to the following folder: HKLM/Software/OEM/TFLOSettings
   4. Change FingerPressure value to  1
   5. Soft-Reset your device

I don’t really know if this will work on any device out there, but using the above tweak really helped in my case. I definitely  have to reccomend this to everyone and you are welcome to leave your feedback on our comments section below!

How to Change Volume Control Default Tab on Touch HD



By default, the Volume Control on the HTC Touch HD displays the Ring tab for volume adjustment. While some people might find this useful, I personally find this annoying, needing an additional tap to adjust the System volume.

XDA Developers found out how to fix this: you need to edit your registry by navigating to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\VolumeOverlay\ and while in there, change the value of “DefaultPage” from 1 to 0, followed by a soft reset. From this point on, bringing up the Volume Control will bring up the System tab as default.

Getting Rid of the YouTube Link in TouchFLO 3D

One of my main annoyances with TouchFLO 3D, may it be Diamond, Touch Pro or Touch HD related, was the YouTube link in the Internet tab of TouchFLO 3D, an application amongst the bookmarks.

Thanks to XDA Developers we can get rid of it now. All you need to do is download the cab and install it to device, followed by a soft reset and the YouTube link in the Internet tab of TouchFLO 3D will be gone. Should you change your mind and want it back there, just uninstall the cab, soft reset your device and YouTube link it is.

An Opera Mobile Registry Tweak to Free Up Memory

XDA Developers found out that by modifying the registry you can make Opera Mobile free up memory at its closing. After using Opera Mobile and exiting the application, you might notice in your Task Manager (other than HTC Task Manager) that its process is still running in the background until you kill it.

You need to edit your registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Opera\Preload and change the value of “RealExit” from “0” to “1”. This would prevent Opera Mobile’s process from staying memory resident after exiting the application and forcing it to really exit, thus clearing up some memory space.

Note: In case you don’t have this registry hierarchy, create it. RealExit should be DWord.
Note 2: If you're not into Registry editing, you can simply install this cab that will do the work for you.

Improve Touch HD Recorded Video Quality

XDA Developers have found out that if you do a simple registry edit, you can noticeably improve the quality of the videos recorded with the HTC Touch HD.

Basically the registry edit lifts Task Manager's low memory limit with reference to the camera application, from the default 4MB to 8MB, so it will require more memory to run, but this one would go unnoticed due to the considerably high amount of hardware memory these devices come with.

Download and run the cab, it will only change one registry value: in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HTC\Taskmanager\Lite it will change "DesiredMemory" to dword: 8192 (default was 4096); don't forget to soft reset your device.

Note: Since this does not look like model specific, chances are high that it would work on Touch Diamond, Touch Pro, variants or even other HTC models running HTC's Task Manager.
