How to Unistall software from a Pocket PC device ?

From the start menu, select settings > remove programs (under the System tab) Find the software in the list that you wish to uninstall Select it, and click "Remove" At this point you will be asked to confirm your request. To do so, tap 'Yes'

With some applications there will be further steps. Make sure to follow all on-screen instructions. Click "ok" in the top right corner when finished.

How to Speed up your display ?
You can change the memory used to cache fonts glyphs, this allow you to use more memory to speed up the display.

Browse to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\GDI\GLYPHCACHE

You can change the "limit" value :

4096 : slow down the display, but use less memory (default setting on Palm-size PC)

8192 : default value on Pocket PC, average memory/performances

16384: speed up the display, but use more memory, twice the default Pocket PC value

How you can get a run command in your PDA ?
If you hold down the speaker (press hard) and tap and hold the clock you will get an interesting 'Run' option.

How to make the iTask window semi-transparent ?
This is a neat little trick that will allow you to make the iTask window semi-transparent.

In the registry, go to:
HKEY_Classes_User\Software\Thumbs Up!\iTask

then, go to the value dwTrans. the higher the number means more transparency. This seems to use a 0-1000 scale, so around 200 is where you'll really start to notice it.

Here comes a detailed guide to installing softwares. Basically, there are 3 types of files:
- If you are able to run the program on your PC (usually exe or msi file), follow Part (I).
- if it's a CAB file, go to part (II).
- if it is an exe file which u cannot run on PC (error that says it is not a valid Win32 application), go to part (III).

(I) Windows Installer:
1) Connect your PPC to PC via ActiveSync
2) Run the exe file on your PC
3) Follow the instructions.
4) A pop-up box will ask you whether you wish to install to default location.

5a) Choose YES to install to main memory
6a) Installation will proceed. Look at your PPC screen if theer are any additional instructions.
7a) When asked whether to replace files on PPC, it is ok to choose NO. Choosing NO will save u alot of trouble when dealing with VB (Visual Basic) programs.

5b) Choose NO if you do not wish to install to main memory
6b) From the drop-down menu, u can choose which location to install your software to.
7b) same as 7(a).

(II) CAB File:
A) Install to Main Memory
1) Transfer the CAB file to PPC.
2) Open File Explorer on PPC & search for that cab file
3) Tap/double tap it to run
4) Follow instructions. It may ask u whether to replace files on PPC.

B) Install to Custom Folder, e.g. Storage Card/ROM
1) Download CABinstl
2) copy the exe file (for CABInstl) to ppc
3) copy your CAB file to ppc also
4) open file explorer on PPC to locate CABInstl
5) Run CABInstl
6) press the ".CAB" button.
7) find your cab file
8) press the "Path" button.
9) specify the folder to install your program to
10) Press Install button. Done!

III) Exe file (cannot run on PC) for PPC:
1) copy exe file to PPC
2) open file explorer and locate the exe file
3) run the exe file (No installations needed!)
4) You may wish to create a shortcut yourself.
5) To create shortcut, inside file explorer, tap & hold on the exe file
6) select "Copy"
7) go to "Windows\Start Menu\Programs" or any subfolder
8) select "paste as shortcut"

This program is an installer for CAB files and allows to install PPC programs into the specified folder instead of that by default created by the standard installer. If the folder is not specified, installation will be made into the default folder. If the developer of the program being installed has firmly set the allocation of files in a CAB file - it will be used during the installation.

How to add fonts to your PPC from your desktop PC ?
This is a siple trick: just find the ‘Fonts’ folder (c:\windows\font or c:\winnt\font, sometime you have to set the ability of your desktop to see hidden folders) on your desktop and copy the desired .ttf ' in your PDA \windows\font

How to turn off the screen during the audio playback ?
That's is possible. Just within the Windows Media Player go to:

tools/settings/bottoms, select function Screen Toggle, Push the button you want to use for this task and that's it.

How to get an admin password ?

HKLM\ControlPanel\Password

If you have a Hide value equal to 1 change it to 0

If you have any Redirect rename it to xRedirect.

Using Keyboard Gestures in Windows Mobile



The smallish "stylus" keyboard, common to all Windows Mobile touchscreen devices, is a favorite amount those of us who began using Pocket PC devices when they first came out. Because the keys are so close together, you can use the stylus to "peck" out words pretty fast after some practice.

The stylus keyboard has a powerful feature that many people don't know about: gestures. As shown in this video, here are the four gestures that you can use with this keyboard:

- Swipe right (move forward)
- Swipe left (delete)
- Swipe down (new line)
- Swipe up (capitalizes a key)

Touch Diamond/Pro/HD: A Faster Way to Enter Numbers and Symbols

Although this may be obvious to many, I admittedly just learned about this feature a few weeks ago, so perhaps it'll be helpful to some.

On all HTC on screen keyboards, there are numbers and symbols that appear above the letters in gray. Instead of hitting the "123/Sym" button to call them up, you can just simply tap and hold on any letter to get the one in gray to show up.
