Kombouaré: ‘A fresh start’

“It’s a good return to action for me. I wanted to win, like the whole team. Sochaux were looking to knock us off and it was important for us to get the win. I really wanted to take the penalty... I missed it, but it doesn’t matter because I made up for it later. I prefer to score from open play anyway. I saw all my old mates tonight and it was great to come back here because I spent a long time at this club.”

“That feels good! We were really focused on getting all three points. We’re very happy, even if we would have preferred to keep a clean sheet. It’s a win that lets us start over, think to the future with confidence, starting with our next game against Nice.”

Sochaux 1-4 Paris-SG




Paris Saint-Germain won in style, 4-1 over Sochaux thanks to goals from Jérémy Clément, Clément Chantôme, Mevlut Erding and Peguy Luyindula.

In the 82nd of the match, the prodigal son quit the Stade Bonal pitch to a standing ovation from the public. Despite a goal just moments earlier, the Sochaux faithful weren’t holding any grudges against Mevlut Erding, the club youth product and top scorer for the past two seasons before leaving over the summer to join PSG. It was a near-perfect evening for Erding who scored the goal that finally killed off Sochaux’s ambitions of a comeback and sealed Paris’ first win in over two months.



While the final score pleaded amply in PSG’s favour, the two sides traded blows in a flurry of opening exchanges. Mikari twice tried to catch out Grégory Coupet in the PSG goal (7’, 16’), while Stéphane Sessegnon (12’) and Sammy Traoré (31’) responded in kind. The game turned ten minutes before half-time when the referee awarded a penalty for a foul in the box by Richert on Luyindula. The Sochaux picked himself up to save Erding’s initial spot kick and the follow up from Christophe Jallet before finally succumbing to Clément’s near-range finish (0-1, 35’).
The Parisians began the second half in similar fashion with Chantôme, set through on goal by Jallet, doubling the visitor’s advantage with a wonderful chip over Richert (0-2, 55’). The home side was groggy and was being overrun by a rampant PSG. Jallet laid on another with a good ball to the near-post, turned up by Erding (0-3, 75’). Francis Gillot’s did, however, manage a consolation goal thanks to former PSG man Dalmat’s crisp shot from 25 metres out (1-3, 87’).



But the Parisians, clearly incensed by conceding another late goal responded within a minute via Luyindula. The forward raced clear to beat Richert for a fourth time (1-4, 87’). The final minutes were long for Sochaux who saw their run of three consecutive wins come to a shuddering halt at the hands of PSG.
The win sees PSG put an end to their own fun of five Ligue 1 matches without a win and climb back into the top half of the table ahead of next weekend’s match against Nice at the Parc des Princes.

Kombouaré: 'On the attack'



Antoine Kombouaré fronts up to the media to give his views on Friday's Classico clash against Marseille at the Stade Vélodrome.

Coach, do you want your side to show a different face than the one that lost against Nice?
"When you drop points at home, you have to be able to win them back. That comes by winning matches away and the next away game is against Marseille. We have to do everything we can to win. We have to go to Marseille with the desire and hunger to get a result, cause an upset and get the three points."
Do you think the team is in better shape now than when the match was postponed?
"Guillaume Hoarau is still missing and Claude Makelele will be suspended. I work with the squad at my disposition. We were ready to play a month ago. That's ancient history now. We are on the attack and don't have any choice but to play a big game in Marseille. I believe enormously in my team."



After his long absence, is this the right time for Zoumana Camara to comeback?
"We've worked hard to get him back at any rate! He's played four games and now he's available for selection. He's in the squad, but I don't know if he'll play tomorrow. I haven't made my final decision yet."

Out-muscled from the outset by a determined Marseille, PSG rarely troubled their hosts who netted the only goal of the game from a set piece.

Antoine Kombouaré’s starting XI looked good on paper. Papus Camara was making his return to action in the centre of the defence; Jérémy Clément and Clément Chantôme were the defensive midfielders; the trio of Peguy Luyindula-Stéphane Sessegnon-Christophe Jallet operating behind lone striker Mevlut Erding. Yet Les Rouge et Bleu were quickly on the back foot. From two crosses from the right, Brandao’s header flashed past the post (2’) while Niang’s header flew straight at Grégory Coupet (3’).



Les Parisiens struggled to break out of their own half and conceded free-kick after free-kick, such as the one wide on the left in the 24th minute. Diawara, all alone at the back post deflected the ball down to the head of Heinze and the rebound lobbed over Coupet (1-0, 25’). Antoine Kombouaré rallied his players and they went close to levelling things with a free-kick of their own. Erding controlled Jallet’s set piece before shooting on the turn, despite the attentions of three OM defenders. Mandanda managed to produce a full-length fingertip save to preserve his side’s lead (38’)



Grégory Coupet was the next to shine, turning Niang’s 20-metre effort onto his own post (41’). Behind at the break, PSG fought back in the second half, but neither Erding’s shot over the top (69’), or Jean-Eudes Maurice’s effort (82’) could level the scoreboard. Paris conceded its second consecutive defeat and must now bounce back at home and the visit of Auxerre next weekend at the Parc des Princes.

This Saturday, PSG takes on the leaders!



Auxerre are the surprise leaders of Ligue 1 and will be at the Parc des Princes this Saturday to take on PSG in Week 15 of the French first division...

Their 2-0 victory over Monaco on Saturday saw the AJA leapfrog Bordeaux and Lyon and into top spot. Jean Fernandez’s men taking full advantage of Les Girondins’ 0-1 home loss to Valenciennes and the 1-1 draw between Grenoble and Olympique Lyonnais. The Burgundy club was rock bottom of the league on 22 August, after a third consecutive defeat at home to Lyon, 0-3. Since those three losses at the start of the season (Sochaux, Lens, OL), Auxerre are undefeated and are coming into Satyurday’s game on the back of seven consecutive victories (Grenoble, Rennes, Bordeaux, Lille, Montpellier, Le Mans and Monaco).
For their part, PSG will hoping to bounce back on home soil. Les Rouge et Bleu’s last home win came 3-0 against Lille on 30 August. Since then, Paris have drawn with Lyon and Nancy, both 1-1, and were narrowly beaten by Nice, 1-0. PSG did, however, put their domestic problems behind long enough to defeat Portuguese league leaders Braga 3-1 at the Parc last week and also look to history for comfort ahead of the visit of Auxerre. PSG have lost just four times at home to Auxerre, registering 14 wins and 11 draws.

To knock off the league leaders, PSG can also count on their captain Claude Makelele, suspended from the Clasico against Marseille. A capacity-packed Parc des Princes right behind the home side could prove to be the decisive factor, so come on down to support Antoine Kombouaré’s charges!

Erding: ‘No point crying over spilt milk’



Upset by his side’s 1-0 loss away to Marseille last Friday, PSG forward Mevlut Erding isn't letting his head drop and reveals how motivated he is for Saturday’s visit of Auxerre to the Parc des Princes. Interview...

Mevlut, we imagine the squad was pretty disappointed after the loss to Marseille...
“Of course. We’re disappointed because it was a big game. It was a match we really wanted to win. We started very poorly and personally, I was very upset because I was mentally well prepared for the game. There’s no point crying over spilt milk. We’re playing on Saturday against Auxerre and we’ll be doing everything we can to get the three points. We’re going to work hard this week because we’re obliged to win.”
Auxerre are currently leading the championship and have won their last seven matches in a row. How are you going to prepare for this match?
“If Auxerre are top of the table it’s because they’re a good team. There’s no place for luck or the arbitrary in football. Auxerre are leading the league and it will be up to us, at home and with the help of our fans to win the game. We are Paris Saint-Germain and we need to show out there on the pitch that we have the desire to win this game.”



Have you been following Auxerre’s matches?
"I’m very familiar with their defence. There attack as well, especially [Ireneusz] Jelen. There’s not a whole lot to say. They are a very good team with [Benoît] Pedretti in the midfield of the park, and he too is a very good player. Auxerre deserve to be where they are in the standings."
What do you have to do rediscover that winning feeling at home?
"We need to show that we want to score goals and do everything to avoid conceding them. In Saturday’s match, the difference will be who wants it the most. The team that wants it more will win it. We need to show that we are better than team and are more motivated."

Teška ozljeda Gregoryja Coupeta

Golman PSG-a Gregory Coupet (37) samoozlijedio se u 82. minuti utakmice francuskoga nogometnog prvenstva između PSG-a i Auxerrea na Parku prinčeva...

Nastojeći spasiti jednu loptu od odlaska u korner, bivši francuski reprezentativac nezgodno je doskočio cijelom težinom tijela na lijevo stopalo. Gležanj nije izdržao i Coupet se u očaju stao previjati uz rub igrališta.

Iz pariškog su kluba tijekom večeri potvrdili da je Coupet slomio gležanj, te da je hitno operiran u pariškoj bolnici Pitie-Salpetriere. Trener PSG-a Antoine Kombouare smatra da će se njegov prvi golman teško oporaviti do kraja tekuće sezone.

Bivši čuvar mreže Lyona i madridskog Atletica, obzirom na godine, mogao bi čak i okončati karijeru.

U dvoboju 15. kola Parižani su inače prekinuli Auxerreov niz od sedam prvenstvenih pobjeda. Slavili su domaći 1-0.

Jérémy Clément's header just after the hour-mark saw PSG knockoff the league leaders Auxerre 1-0. However the evening will also be remembered for the terrible injury suffered by Grégory Coupet.

Unfortunately, it just isn't possible to celebrate this Saturday. Yes PSG defeated the championship frontrunners at a sodden Parc des Princes, ending Auxerre's seven-game winning streak in the process, but PSG also lost their goalkeeper to a serious and long-term injury. In trying to prevent a corner in the 82nd minute, Grégory Coupet's twisted his left leg and his ankle broke under the weight. Coupet received an ovation as he was stretchered from the field, replaced by Edel – immediately called into action by Bourgeois (90').



Before then, PSG had played a solid first half before upping the ante in the second period. Auxerre could feel that deserved better after Niculae, released by Contout (7'), lost his one-on-one and the two combined again only for the latter to shoot over (37').

Two minutes after Clément's header from a Céara cross after good work from Sessegnon (1-0, 66'), the referee Monsieur Ennjimi pointed to the penalty spot after Sakho's tackle on Contout, before his assistant indicated the foul had been committed just centimetres outside the box (68').



Despite the defeat, Auxerre stay leader of Ligue 1, while Paris are torn between the joy of claiming the three points and the pain of losing their goalkeeper.
