Full Flash 10.1 coming to Windows Mobile “before years end”



Adobe Systems Incorporated  today unveiled Adobe® Flash® Player 10.1 software for smartphones, smartbooks, netbooks, PCs and other Internet-connected devices, allowing content created using the Adobe Flash Platform to reach users wherever they are. A public developer beta of the browser-based runtime is expected to be available for Windows® Mobile and desktop operating systems including Windows, Macintosh and Linux later this year.

Flash Player 10.1 is the first consistent runtime release of the Open Screen Project that enables uncompromised Web browsing of expressive applications, content and high definition (HD) videos across devices. Using the productive Web programming model of the Flash Platform, the browser-based runtime enables millions of designers and developers to reuse code and assets and reduce the cost of creating, testing and deploying content across different operating systems and browsers. Flash Player 10.1 is easily updateable across all supported platforms to ensure rapid adoption of new innovations that move the Web forward.

The browser-based runtime leverages the power of the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) for accelerated video and graphics while conserving battery life and minimizing resource utilization. New mobile-ready features that take advantage of native device capabilities include support for multi-touch, gestures, mobile input models, accelerometer and screen orientation bringing unprecedented creative control and expressiveness to the mobile browsing experience. Flash Player 10.1 will also take advantage of media delivery with HTTP streaming, including integration of content protection powered by Adobe® Flash® Access 2.0. This effort, code-named Zeri, will be an open format based on industry standards and will provide content publishers, distributors and partners the tools they need to utilize HTTP infrastructures for high-quality media delivery in Flash Player 10.1 and Adobe® AIR® 2.0 software.

How to Launch an Application by Assigning Start Menu Button

Start Launcher is an tiny application that will work on any screen resolution and which lets you assign two programs to the Start Menu button, one for tapping and one for tap and hold.

To get started, download Start Launcher and install it to your device. Launch it from its icon in the Programs menu and the window popping up will allow you to set up two custom applications which will run, one, when you tap the Start Menu and the second, when you tap and hold it; you can also specify arguments to your executable. You also need to specify a screen resolution (QVGA will work for WQVGA and VGA will work for WVGA).

Office Mobile 7 to have Sharepoint client


After a long bout of silence regarding Windows Mobile 7, I’ve finally stumbled across some recent information (where, “recent” = August 2009). Back in May of this year, I posted a slide which contained a Windows Mobile 7 device release date of April 2010, which – at the time – jived well with what Mary Jo Foley had previously reported. According to an Office 2010 presentation recently given to partners, there is a slide maintaining detailing (see update below) a Windows Mobile 7 Spring 2010 RTM time frame.

 

UPDATE: Mary Jo Foley commented below and provided some valid insight:

 

    The original roadmap showed phones preloaded with WM7 being available in April 2010. So if RTM of WM 7 is spring 2010, that’s about 6 months later than it was supposed to be. The big question is: If they RTM in April 2010 or so, how much of a lag will there be till the OS gets on phones? If MS can take this lag out, as they claim they plan to do, that will help them get to market a little faster.

 

Also included in the slide designated for, “Office Mobile 2010″ are a couple of, “Office Mobile 7” UI prototype images. They greatly resemble the long-ago leaked Windows Mobile 7 UI prototypes to a, ‘T’. I can’t imagine that Microsoft has chosen to stick with that UI up to this point, so I’m going to take a wild guess that those images are equally as old as aforementioned leaked images they so closely resemble. Not to mention, with Mobile UI concepts like these floating around, I have high hopes for a stunning Windows Mobile 7 UI the likes of which we have yet to see.

 

With that said, here is a snap-shot of the Office Mobile 2010 slide, along with an image I threw together that includes a better look at the Office Mobile 7 images in the slide:





If you will notice, those two mock-ups are a bit sloppy. In the left image, you can see the Excel icon sitting on top of the task bar. In the right image, the text in the task bar runs under the center button and outside of the inner gradient border. Despite those, “flaws” (they are mock-ups, after all), this is the first reference to, “Office Mobile 7″ I’ve yet to see. Likewise, this is the first time I’m aware of Microsoft actually showing images of this mock-up UI in a fairly public format. As such, I’ll certainly keep my nose to the grindstone and bring you any further information I can get a hold of!

cleanRAM v.1.8 Update With More Features

cleanRAM, the popular memory cleaning application for Windows Mobile has been recently updated to version 1.8, which brings more features, fixes and compatibility to the table.

The most notable features of the new version are the improved compatibility with Windows Mobile 6.5 and the compatibility for non-touch devices. The complete changelog can be found below (quote):

Androkkid's Smooth Interface Imitates Android & Hero Sense UI

Just when we thought we were done seeing Hero themes for different Windows Mobile interfaces, a developer of a new UI drops another into our laps. This time, the Hero theme is for an interface called Androkkid.

You might have seen Androkkid emerge from the shadows sometime last month, but it was hardly an interface that could be used on a daily basis. At the time, it was more of a work in progress as it didn’t even have a clock widget and many features were disabled. It did, however, sport the traditional Android interface with its neat pull-up menu and sliding panels.

Well, the developer just released a new version, giving it a complete makeover. It’s now more functional with support for widgets and other customizations. Most notably, it gives you the option to choose between the default Android and Hero themes. Continue reading to get the details on Androkkid – Hero edition.

After switching Androkkid to its Hero Sense UI theme, you will notice it has a working menu bar similar to Sense. The left button brings up the options and the right button lets you add different widgets or shortcuts. The middle button smoothly pulls up an animated program launcher, much like the HTC Hero. The launcher can be automatically expanded by tapping it or manually by holding and dragging. Just like the Sense interface, you can hold any shortcut on the launcher to pull it onto any panel.

There are currently widgets for the battery status, signal, a photo frame (randomly changes pics in an assigned folder), clocks (Hero, digital & analog), and appointments. As I mentioned above, you can add shortcuts to your favorite apps. This process is easy thanks to built-in menus, but there is a learning curve for adding SMS, email, calendar and contacts shortcuts (all of them display notifications). You basically have to know their file path and enter them manually. Users of iFonz will find this process familiar and I’m sure novice users can get answers from the developer’s XDA thread.

The cool thing about the widgets and shortcuts on Androkkid is that you can customize them. To do this, simply hold a particular shortcut or widget and drag it to the “edit” button that appears at the bottom of the screen. This gives you access to its properties where you can enter text, change icons, alter the file path, and even adjust the height/width of the icon (as pictured below). You can also choose to lock (“block”) the shortcut/widget to the interface, so that it stays on every screen when switching panels (iPhone-like). From the settings button, you can change wallpaper/themes, configure the number of panels, pick whether to start on reboot, enable/disable full screen and more.

Overall, the UI is rather responsive. Sliding through panels is fluid and the animated launcher is a nice touch. I should note that upon launching Androkkid for the first time, you will have to wait a few minutes for it to save all your program information. After that, it loads just as quickly as TouchFLO or Mobile Shell, even after soft resets. With a few more advanced widgets, this interface could be a great, free alternative to Mobile Shell 3-3.5. If you’re a fan of the Sense interface found on the Hero, it’s definitely worth a look.

You can download the latest version (0. of Androkkid from SimoSoftProjects. Make sure to download the widescreen wallpapers (40) and polished icons (213) at the bottom of the page, unless you prefer to make your own. Custom widgets for Androkkid are already being created as well.

A few years ago Windows Mobile suffered from a dearth of good web browsers, but at the moment the very opposite is true – there are so many good ones we do not know which one to choose.

Uzard is another new entrant in the field.  The browser seems to use similar technology to Skyfire and Opera Mini, meaning content is pre-processed in some manner, which results in a very fast browser with wide desktop standard support.

According to the company uZard brings:

1. PC level display on the mobile device
    – Client device can display the same level of displays as the Windows Server even without the necessary resources(CPU, memory, codec. Players, etc)
2. No Language nor Font barriers
    – All the language fonts are supported as long as the Windows Server supports them.
    No fonts need to be installed in the client devices.
3. Smaller Data Amount
    – The data amount which has to be downloaded to display the web page initially can be significantly reduced because the client will just need client view port area only instead of     the whole web page contents
4. Complicated web page supported haha cu' complicated 
    – Client device even with low CPU performance can display heavy or complicated web pages because the only process it has to do is to display the uZard format images (client     view ports) on the display.
5. Additional web components Free
    – Many laptop PC platform only supported components(AcitveX, AJAX, Scripts, etc) or codec’s are supported while they cannot be installed on the mobile devices properly even with higher CPUs.

The browser is currently being actively used by 2 million people in Korea, but is not yet available outside of the country. uZard Web is however currently engaged in active discussions and negotiations with mobile telecommunication service providers, device manufacturers, and other potential partner businesses in China, Europe, and the US to make the service available across the world.
