Android 2.3 gets ported to the iPhone 3G, breaks hearts left and right



Android getting ported to the iPhone may be old news by now, but Android 2.3 (a.k.a. Gingerbread) getting ported to the iPhone? Well, that's something... new, if entirely expected. As before, it's the iPhone 3G doing the honors, and the port is still based on the iDroid project, which means you can hang onto iOS in a dual-boot configuration so you won't be left in the cold when the less-than-stable port decides not to cooperate. And, yes, this once again means that the iPhone has gotten the latest version of Android before many Android devices have.

CameraButtons


CameraButtons is a new Cydia tweak that lets you use all the functions of your iPhone or iPod touch camera without touching the screen.

You can set the Volume Up button, Volume Down button, or Shake action to:
● Take Photo: Switches to photo mode if not already in photo mode and takes a picture.
● Take Video: Switches to video mode if not already in video mode and begins recording.
● Take Photo/Video: Snaps a photo or starts video recording depending on which mode the camera is currently in.
● Toggle Flash: Switches Flash between Off, Auto, and On modes for compatible devices.
● Toggle HDR: Switches HDR mode On and Off for compatible devices.
● Toggle Camera: Switches between the front and back cameras for compatible devices.

You can also use the tweak to launch the Camera app right from the lockscreen by holding down one of the Volume buttons.

14-year-old kid is the developer behind the #1 free app in the App Store




Last week a curious puzzler app called Bubble Ball topped the free apps list in the App Store and dethroned Angry Birds. And unlike most successful titles, this one doesn't have a team of highly paid programmers. Actually, there is no team, just one person. Its creator is probably one of the youngest programming talents out there – he is just 14 years old.

Eight grader Robert Nay spent a couple of hours every day for more than a month developing the application, which has been downloaded over two million times in two weeks. The code reached 4,000 lines in length, but it was not only about length – it was about willpower also as young Nay overcame moments when he thought that finishing the game was “impossible.” The original concept and everything except for the design of a couple of levels belongs to the kid, according to his mother.


The prodigy came up with the idea and then found out about Ansca Mobile's Corona SDK in the public library, which aided the development. Don't be too surprised – Robert Nay built his first website in third grade. And he promises that his fame will not be short lived as a new app is in the works, but this time it will not be free. Well, the first million is the hardest they say, but Nay is on his way of proving everyone wrong... at 14 years old.
