Nokia N86 hands-on



We just messed around with Nokia's new N86, and while the form factor and feel of the device seem a little last-gen, there's no denying the camera's quality. Some of the soft button the face of the phone are a little difficult for our large fingers to press, but the d-pad is pure quality, as is the generic-looking numeric keypad -- T9ers rejoice. In traditional N-series fashion, the slide mechanism is practically perfect, with a meaty, satisfying and easy motion to it, and the general feel of the device, including the seamless glossy front, screams quality. The camera we played with seemed a little glitchy in operation -- it's still pre-production -- but the images were excellent. The LED flash won't be able to handle a large dimly lit room, but can do close-quarters indoors shots just fine, and should match up well with other high resolution shooters in the outdoor arena. The OLED screen, but it might not have been set at full brightness -- it's crisp, but not necessarily vibrant. Overall it's a "nice" handset, but somehow 8 megapixels alone doesn't seem to justify another go at this fairly dated and chubby N-series form factor -- but maybe that's just us.

Update: We bumped up the brightness and stacked the phone up against the iPhone 3G and found the N86's screen to be considerably brighter -- another win for OLED! There's also now some video after the break!

N97 prva dobija Skype

Nokia i Skype su danas objavili da su počeli saradnju koja će u Skype dovesti u Nokia N seriju mobilnih uređaja. Prvi uređaj koji će dobiti Skype VOIP aplikaciju je N97 u trećem kvartalu 2009.

Skype klijent će vam omogućiti da vidite ko je od vaših kontakata online, biti ćete u mogućnosti slati i primati instant poruke i praviti besplatne Skype - to - Skype pozive preko 3G ili WLAN-a, kao i jeftine Skype pozive na fiksne i mobilne mreže.

Skype neće biti distribuiran kao aplikacija koju će korisnici jednostavno moći instalirati na telefon, nego će na uređaj dolaziti pomoću firmware update-a

Video Interview: Valtteri Eroma Eseries Head of Design

With the recent release of the Nokia E75 and the E55, Eseries devices have evolved into something even better by introducing entirely new form-factors, build quality and used materials.

Folks from Nokia Conversations caught up with Valtteri Eroma, Head of Nokia Eseries design to talk about design evolution and the challenge of creating latest wave of Eseries devices.

He explains the design principles of the two latest Eseries phones, Nokia’s innovative keyboard concepts and some special aspects of the Nokia E55.

Nokia has had QWERTY keyboards for some time now, starting with the Communicator series back in the 90s. A few years back, the Nokia 9300 Communicator set the standard of usability in phone keyboards by providing a full keyboard for messaging and the traditional phone keypad for simpler tasks

With the Nokia E75 and E55, Valtteri and his team pushed the design even further, working hard to innovate with both the format and the materials used in the devices.

Nokia E75 Gets The Very First Promotional Clip!



Nokia is the very first promo clip of the new Nokia QWERTY device. A short but yet very impressive walkthrough the key points of the Nokia E75, company's latest addition in the Eseries family of Smartphones.

Nokia E75 in a decent red suite is looking to be a really great upgrade over its predecessor, the Nokia E90 that also feature combination of the convectional and the QWERTY keyboard but packed into the different form factor that enables putting of the great high resolution screen.

In a matter of fact, its QVGA display is the main drawback of Nokia's handsets. I just can't imagine myself using a phone with the QVGA resolution anymore and it is one of the main reasons why I prefer the Nokia N97 over this cute Nokia's Eseries device.

Sorry Nokia, I know I am kind of a devil's advocate sometimes but to be really honest with you all I’ll not even consider buying a phone of resolution lower than nHD anymore and I would also strongly suggest you to say no to any phone with resolution lower than 640x360!

Nokia E75 is great device and with a bit better screen it will be nearly perfect QWERTY solution. The phone is aimed primarily at business users and as such it is requires a better screen for maximum productivity!
