Nokia's N85 reviewed, called better than N96



We were always curious why a device that (at least on paper) was superior in a lot of ways to Nokia's N96 wasn't trumpeted as the outfit's flagship device, but nevertheless, an Italian reviewer has made us feel a touch better about our previously ludicrous thoughts. After spending a solid fortnight with the phone, the critic felt comfortable deeming the N85 a "very, very beautiful" handset, also noting that it was "definitely the best Symbian [device]" out there. He even went out of his way to recommend the N85 over the N96 so long as you're cool without DVB-H or a super-snazzy camera. As if you really needed more, he also found the OLED display to be spectacular, the audio quality very satisfactory and the GPS / multimedia functions to be top-notch. Wait, is that the N96 we hear crying? There's no crying in Espoo!

Nokia N79 gets unboxed on video



We've already seen Nokia's N79 up close and personal, but if you're just not ready to commit until you see exactly what your potential purchase will entail, you may want to hit up the Nseries Workshop blog, which has the requisite unboxing video of the device, on video and outdoors, no less. In case you missed it when it got official, the phone is a tri-band GSM number, and packs a generous 5-megapixel camera with a dual-LED flash, built-in WiFi, 4GB of microSD storage, swappable back covers (as seen above), and an unfortunately lackluster screen -- at least in our experience.

Samsung i7110 napada N85!

Nakon INNOV8-a, Samsung je konačno izbacio još jedan, još bolji, model, koji bi mogao ozbiljno da uzdrma Nokijine pozicije kada su top Symbian modeli u pitanju, pošto je novi i7110 rame uz rame sa Nokijom N85!



Ovaj uređaj vam je već poznat, pošto sam već pisao o njemu. Međutim, u tom trenutku se skoro ništa nije znalo, a sada je specifikacija poznata. Dakle, radi se o S60v3 FP2 candybar uređaju, debljine svega 12.9mm, što je impresivno obzirom da je napakovan svim funkcijama koje krase najnaprednije Symbian telefone u ovom trenutku. Prvo treba reći da je ekran (veličine 2.6 inča) izrađen u OLED tehnologiji, a već sam pisao zašto je to fenomenalna stvar. Ovo je jedini telefon uz N85 koji koristi ekran tog tipa. U telefon je naravno ugrađen WiFi (i to sa DLNA podrškom), a tu je i GPS. Isporučivaće se sa Samsungovim Navigator programom, koji se temelji na popularnoj Route66 aplikaciji. Tu je i microSDHC slot (koji podržava kapacitete do 16GB), accelerometer, pa čak i FM transmitter! Baterija od 1200 mAh će obezbediti sasvim dovoljnu autonomiju. Kamera je rezolucije 5 Mpx, sa LED blicem. Dolaziće sa built-in DivX podrškom.

Kada su mane u pitanju, jedino što mu se može uzeti za manu je ekran od "svega" 260k boja, mada to znači i duži vek baterije.

Novi Samsungov pulen bi se trebao pojaviti do kraja godine, a prvo u Rusiji.

Nokia 5800 to Come to Russia First on Dec 05. Expensive

This just in: we received word that the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, the highly anticipated (and first) Nokia touchscreen phone for the masses, will finally be released on December 5, and Russia will be the first country out of the gates.

There has been a lot of talk about the Nokia 5800’s release. A couple weeks ago it was reported that it would be available by the end of the year to a very limited market, but with this report it seems as though it’s even more limited than originally expected.

Right after Russia, the next countries to get stock will be Ukraine and Kazakhstan (grejtst kantri in d vorld  ) in late December and January respectively.



The estimated price for the Nokia 5800 when it first comes out will be 16,000 rubles ($600 US/457 EUR), which, if true, is significantly higher then EUR279 promised by Nokia.

Rumor has it that this might be because of the iPhone.

Nokia 5800 will be positioned in Russia as an alternative to Apple phone, and indications are that it should do very good there. With iPhone selling for anywhere between $750-900 in Russia, local wholesalers and retailers felt that they would be leaving a lot of money on the table, where they to sell Nokia 5800 for the original EUR 279 price before taxes. They’ve been putting a lot of pressure on Nokia to increase the price and this is probably the result.

Russian gamers will be able to enjoy the N-gage arena to download, manage and play a wide variety of games, and those who get lost easily can download Nokia Maps 2.0 for navigation and satellite imagery.

There is no word on availability in other countries at this point, but we’re still keeping our fingers crossed for it to be released as expected in India, Spain, UAE, Hong Kong and Indonesia.

Nokia E63 makes it debut at the Symbian smartphone show



The Nokia E63 made a surprise public debut at the Symbian smartphone show last week. Labeled Exx in the photos, the E63 gets snagged next to the E71. Looking very much like its older brother, the E63 sports a black coat of paint, instead of the red we previously saw, and a condensed keyboard that fits 8 keys and a mini space bar across the bottom. With such a polished looking production model hitting the scene, a formal announcement should be right around the corner.

Nokia announces six new low cost phones for emerging markets



Nokia on Tuesday introduced six new mobile phones and two new services that target emerging markets. The phones will include the 7100 Supernova and the XpressMusic 5130 and will retail for €25 to €90 ($32 to $115 USD). The first handset to hit the market in late 2008 will be the Nokia 7100 Supernova, a slider with a touchscreen and 1.2MP camera. Following the Supernova will be the XpressMusic 5130, Nokia’s low-cost music phone which is slated for a Q1 2009 release. The remaining four phones are standard candy bars and include the Nokia 2323, Nokia 2330, Nokia 1202 and the Nokia 1661. The Nokia 1202 claims the title as Nokia’s lowest priced mobile phone to date coming in at a mere €25 ($32 USD). A phone is useless without supported services and Nokia is set to launch new services that aim to bring low cost email and educational services to the masses. Nokia’s Mail by Ovi will deliver mobile email and Nokia’s new Life Tools will deliver agricultural information and multilingual education services designed especially for rural and small town communities via SMS. The Mail by Ovi service will be available globally on all S40 handsets by the end of 2008 and the new Life Tools is expected to go live in 2009.

Nokia E63 got official, available in the next few weeks for €199

After appearing several times in leaked images, Nokia E63 is now finally official, as the Finnish company has just announced its upcoming release.

Built as a poorer version of the E71, Nokia E63 will be available starting the next few weeks, for the retail price of only €199 (about $253).

The E63 has two color versions, ruby red and ultramarine blue, and, of course, it hasn’t got as many features as the more expensive E71.

Nokia tries to reach a broader audience with the new Eseries device, and that’s definitely a good thing, as we don’t see too many smartphones to come for prices under €200.



Alongside a full QWERTY keyboard, Nokia E63 also features:

    * A 2.36 inch TFT display with 16 million colors and 320 x 240 pixels
    * Symbian S60, version 3.1
    * Quad band GSM connectivity (850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz)
    * Dual band UMTS connectivity
    * Wi-Fi

As you can see, there is no GPS, and no HSDPA connectivity, so the 3G of Nokia E63 will be limited to speeds of only 384 Kb/s. But I guess you can’t have them all for such a low price.



There will be three versions of the new Eseries smartphone: Nokia E63-1, Nokia E63-2 and Nokia E63-3, the difference between then being the UMTS bands they work on (900 / 2100 MHz, 850 / 1900 MHz or 850 / 2100 MHz).

  Nokia E63 review - unboxing, first impressions


The N63 hit us via express delivery from an unknown donor - he sent it to hit me exactly at 1230 austrian time. A small note was enclosed stating that I am handling a preproduction sample and should keep that in mind when reviewing - as if that ever deterred me from anything ;-).

Anyways: the Nokia E63’s box probably isn’t finished yet - mine shipped in a small black box:



Inside, I found the E63 and a BP-4L battery with a nominal capacity of 1500mAH at 3.7V:



As usual, Nokia includes a MicroUSB data cable and its wallwart charger. I personally loathe this little critter, as it lacks international tips: a friend of mine works at an international law firm and always is very angry when it comes to travel as he needs to lug along an international adapter for his phone…



Anyways, here are the first two shots of the box. The keyboard layout is a lot less annoying than on the E71; the keyboards are now made of a weird type of rubber which feels better to the touch:



Finally: I tried to fit the device into Proporta’s excellent leather case for the E71 - and it didn’t fit in:



In the end, the E63 seems to address the mayor issues found on the E71 - even though it is considered a low-end device, I have to say that I already prefer it to its “higher-end” sibling…
