Motorola’s mysterious Android smartphone gets a name, specs



According to HDblog.it, that mysterious square MOTORBLUR handset has a name: Flipout. Not only that, but the Italian site claims to have secured the official spec sheet, which read as follows: 2.8″ display, 3.1 megapixel camera, GPS, 512MB ROM / 256MB RAM, 700MHz processor, and Android 2.1 covered in MOTOBLUR. We have to be honest and say we’re really not digging the design, but in case your tastes are a lot little more adventurous than ours, word is you’ll be able to pick one of these up this June in your choice of black, green or pink. HTC Wildfire -- a smaller Desire -- announced in the U.K.



HTC today announced the Wildfire (you might remember that name from a contest HTC ran), essentially the Desire squeezed down into a 3.2-inch screen, with a lower price the end result. (That's also known as "entry level" these days.)

The screen itself is QVGA, so it's not as high-resolution as you get on the Desire, Nexus One and the like. But it does have a 5-megapixel camera the new HTC Sense, WiFi, Bluetooth, aGPS, 3.5mm headphone jack, microSD card and Europe's 3G bands. It also features the same trackpad found on the Desire and Legend.

The Wildfire also features a new widget that lets you recommend an application by e-mail.

Pricing was not announced, but the Wildfire should be available in Europe and Asia in the third quarter. Full presser after the break.

Availability

HTC Desire to get a QWERTY-toting brother, called HTC Vision?



Well this is an interesting rumor. The HTC Desire is very easy on the eyes, as it’s basically a sexier Nexus One. But what some people may be waiting out for is a full keyboard that doesn’t suck on an Android device – one that’s not a mid- ranged device. We just got word of a rumor that a new device, the HTC Vision may indeed be a QWERTY-toting Desire like device!

With the exception of Motorola (NYSE: MOT) Droid, all Android devices with keyboards are mid-rangers. We won’t be counting the G1, given its age – it would today be considered a mid-ranged (if you can call it  that) device. We’ve got a couple of options today, and soon, we’ll have more QWERTY packing Androids in our midst. There’s the Backflip, Devour, Moment, CLIQ, and the upcoming Ally, and MyTouch Slide to look forward to. Let’s not forget the mystery HTC slider we saw hanging out at the FCC. But these devices aren’t anywhere near the power of the Nexus One, Desire, Evo, Droid Incredible, so what gives? Where are the power house Android devices with keyboards? All signs point to Vision.

According to a User Agent profile (UAP), there may be a Desire-like device that has a full QWERTY keyboard on tap. From what the UAP says, it looks almost identical than that of the Desire’s, with the exception that this one seems to have a QWERTY keyboard. How they got this out is beyond me, but it sure sounds like something to get excited about. What’s even more exciting about it is that the device may come to T-Mobile (NYSE: DT). Engadget got hold of a document containing some new codenames for HTC devices, and next to “Vision” is “TMO.” Sounds interesting, no?



The Vision will be one of the most powerful slide-out keyboard Android devices that we know of. But, just like the one other powerful QWERTY packing Android device, all we’ve got to go on is renders and mock ups. Hopefully we’ll see a live shot of the Vision materialize soon.

Dell Streak official; 5 inches of Android goodness coming to the UK in June, EU + USA in summer



Dell’s Streak is finally official. We’ve seen leaks, official press pictures, specifications, pretty much everything there was to know about this device … except for an authentic press release from Dell announcing that this thing exists. Today we got said press release, and it’s got very few details:

- “Early this June the Dell Streak will be available across the UK at O2 (NYSE: TEF) stores, O2.co.uk, The Carphone Warehouse, and later in the month at Dell.co.uk. Pricing and data plans for the UK will be announced by O2 ahead of availability. Later this summer, Dell plans to make Streak available in the U.S.” — You’ve read that right, no pricing data as of right now.
- 5 inch screen (800 x 480 pixels), 1 GHz Qualcomm (NSDQ: QCOM) Snapdragon processor, 5 megapixel camera, VGA front facing camera, 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth.
- Adobe Flash 10.1 and Android 2.2 will be available on the Streak later this year.

No price, no concrete specs like dimensions and weight, just the same old, same old. How will people take to this device? It’s got a 5 inch screen, so fitting it in your pocket is going to be rather difficult, and at the same time it’s only 5 inches … so why not get something like an iPad, or wait for Chrome OS tablets that are 7 to 9 inches?

This whole tablet thing, I’ve never been very keen on it. One more toy around the house to charge, one more toy to buy, one more toy to prove to myself that I like toys. Sorry, don’t see the point.

The Motorola Droid Shadow likes to work out, have its picture taken



Yep, there it is. The Motorola Droid Shadow, same as we just saw in some promo material. This one was found and napped in a corporate Verizon gym in Washington, then sent on to Gizmodo. It reportedly contained a text message confirming it is "unreleased" and then was remotely wiped.

That's a 4.3-inch screen you see there (same as on the Evo 4G -- and like the Evo, it likely isn't AMOLED or anything, that we're OK with that). It also is said to have an 8MP camera and will shot 720p video (again, like the Evo), 16GB of internal storage, a 1GHz Snapdragon processor and HDMI out (again, like the Evo). And have we mentioned this thing pretty much is spec'd out exactly like the Evo 4G?

Anyhoo, if anybody else has an unreleased phone they want to leave lying around, we'll be at the Abeline Sizzler about 7:30 tonight for their "Show Mama a Good Night Out" promotion.
