Last month, HTC told us about the J Butterfly, coming to Japan. For its US release, that hardware metamorphosized into the Droid DNA, which had its official unveiling earlier this week. What about everyone else, though? Where’s their five-inch 1080p Android? A new leak seeks to reveal just how that handset will arrive, showing-off the HTC Deluxe.

From the front, at least, the Deluxe closely aligns with what we’ve seen of the J Butterfly and the Droid DNA, though the coloring up top may be a little closer to the former. The one really stand-out change is the switch to red-colored Android capacitive buttons. That’s a stylistic choice we’ve seen HTC make before, like it did with the One X+. It’s just a little ironic to see it on the international version of the handset but not on Verizon’s edition, being the carrier’s signature color, and all.

We still lack full details on the Deluxe’s hardware, but expect it to be relatively unchanged from its brother models – but of course with an appropriate radio. We’d love to see it launch before the year’s out, but again, that’s part of the Deluxe’s story that remains a mystery for now.

HTC M7 to launch in Q1 2013 with 5-inch HD display, Snapdragon S4 Pro and uni-body aluminum case

The HTC Droid DNA has been on the market for only two weeks (and we’re still waiting on the international launch for the HTC DLX), but HTC is already focused on its next flagship device. According to multiple sources, HTC is working with semiconductor and casing suppliers in an effort to secure enough components to manufacture 4 to 5 million units of the HTC M7 in Q1 of 2013.

Exact specifications of the mysterious HTC M7 are a bit vague, but with a little bit of research we’ve been able to pull together quite a bit of information about the phone. From what we can gather, the HTC M7 will feature a 5-inch HD display, a uni-body aluminum shell, Qualcomm APQ8064 quad-core processor and a 13 megapixel camera.

Most of the reports indicate that HTC will try to get the HTC M7 to market in Q1 – a few months before Samsung launches the Galaxy S IV. The accelerated launch of the HTC M7 would go against HTC’s typical launch time frame as the company has traditionally chosen to unveil its new devices at Mobile World Congress (scheduled for the last week in February) with devices hitting European markets in early April. However, if HTC can get the M7 to market early, it will give the company a slight advantage which should allow HTC to regain market share from Samsung and help improve the company’s financials in the first quarter of 2013.

Sony Yuga, a 5-inch 1080p Jelly Bean Smartphone, Pops Up Yet Again




Additional information about Sony’s Yuga, a 5-inch 1080p phablet we first heard about in November, has popped on Russian site Mobile Review. While everything is still speculative at this point, here’s what we think we know.

The device will supposedly enlist a similar display to that of the Droid DNA, called WhiteMagic, thought it’s slightly upgraded to provide better battery life. According to The Verge, WhiteMagic from JDI uses a white “extra sub-pixel to offer brighter images” without draining battery, meaning users can watch HD movies longer before draining their battery.

As per the leak from November, Sony’s big flagship will come equipped with a 1.5GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 12-megapixel camera, Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean, an HDMI port and a microSD card slot.

HTC was the first to the 1080p-screen punch, and it appears Sony wants to follow suit. It’s unclear when the device will officially be unveiled, but the likeliest scenario will be for Sony to break its silence during CES—or possibly Mobile World Congress in February—which is only a few weeks away.
