Firefox 1.1 beta for Nokia N900 (Maemo) finally went live today. Firefox 1.1 beta is built on the same browser engine as Firefox 3.6 for desktop computers with extensive under the hood work to optimize for mobile. For the 1.1 release, the team listened to your feedback to help improve the browsing experience. As a result, polishing the user interface and improving UI responsiveness and performance is at the heart of this beta release.     * Use volume rocker to zoom in and out on the Nokia N900
    * Download, First Run and Start page redesign to help you find and use your favorite Firefox features

Nokia N900 Firmware 1.2 (Public Release) Leaked





A new version of the Nokia N900 firmware 1.2 (public release) have been leaked. I highly recommend you guys to wait with the update until you can download it from Nokia.
Change Log for 10.2010.16-8 a.k.a PR 1.2:

    * Smoother scrolling
    * Long key press gives numbers
    * FM transmitter still works even though HK models do not have the hardware.
    * Faster. Though this could be due to the reflash..
    * No stuttering while recording video
    * currently skype video chat seems to be still disabled
    * New application manager is awesome!
    * Flash version has been updated
    * USSD codes now work without requiring additional apps

Opera Mobile 10 browser released for Nokia N900



The Opera Mobile 10 browser got released today for the Maemo devices such as the Nokia N900.This Maemo version of Opera Mobile 10 was created as a hobby project by a small team of developers in their spare time. In total, about 6 man-weeks were spent on creating the release. It’s worth pointing out that this is not an officially-supported release. As such, it has not undergone our usual quality assurance processes, and at times may not feel as polished or complete as an official release. This also means that there may never be a “final” release of Opera Mobile 10 for Maemo devices, since it’s just that much more fun to add shiny new features rather than fixing boring old bugs.

There are a number of known issues with this build, listed below:

    * Adobe Flash and other plugins are not supported.
    * Screen tearing may be visible when panning, especially in portrait mode. We expect to fix this in a future update.
    * The built-in on-screen keyboard is not supported. Use the physical keyboard or the on screen keyboard included with Opera Mobile.
    * There is no power management support. In practice this means that if you open a page with animations and leave Opera running, you will soon be using a payphone. Power is drained even when Opera is running in the background and/or the screen is turned off.
    * If you set Opera as the default browser, for example by installing the Browser Switchboard, an extra empty tab will get opened every time you open a link from an external application.

Download and install Opera Mobile 10 on your Nokia N800/N810/N900 using the phone’s default browser.

Aim
Building a nice, HTML5 (the group of technologies, not just the Markup language) enabled, on the top of Qt 4.7, QML/QtQuick and all the goodness that comes with it.

The final aim, for Orange Labs, is to have a mobile browser that before all the others already embeds all the latest, cutting edge technologies, that are going to be “standard” in a year or two. This might help Orange, as well as You, to develop your amazing webapps in advance.

Target Devices
Of course, we have target devices. For now I’m mainly developing on Maemo 5 / N900. And things are going fairly well. But Symbian devices are in the target as well, now that Qt 4.7 Beta1 is available for this platform as well.

Features
I’m going to write it in a Wiki on the project hosting. But I assure you we have a lot of nice ideas in mind (or at least we hope you will like it). Keep an eye on the Issues tracker and the Wiki.
