Nokia E75 Confirmed As Real!

I discussed the freedom of the press before and I truly think that we all owe Nokia a certain degree of respect with their products, like the way that they respect us with their services, but... .. .

I’m often getting information from people who violating trusts but as a journalist I have no obligation to protect confidential materials because it is not my fault after all, information is supposed to be shared but in respect to Nokia I will only publish few blurry photos and keep most of the specifications secret!

I'm not sure if the media should publish classified information or not, but to be truthful, I only feel an obligation to keep my readers informed and up-to-date with all the latest news, events, trends and other noteworthy happenings that are less or more related to Symbian phones.

So here it is, few blurry photos of the upcoming Nokia Eseries device found its way into my mailbox and that’s all I am going to say about.

Nokia E75

Nokia E72 May Be Coming Sooner than we Think; As E63

Well lookie what we have here. The leak of a promotional video containing two upcoming Nokia Eseries handsets, at the time labeled E72 and E75, has spawned some digging around a few of the common sources of Nokia info. Say hello to three new XML files that represent the coming of the E63-1, E63-2 and E63-3. Because of the timing of all this it is certainly logical, though not certain by any means, that the E63 is in fact the final label that will be slapped on what we referred to as the E72 earlier. Ok then. So if the E72 does in fact turn out to be the E63, here’s what we know about this puppy so far:

    * 320 x 240 pixel display
    * S60 Feature Pack 1 (OS 9.2; not FP2 love for Eseries apparently)
    * GPRS / EDGE / UMTS
    * WiFi
    * Three variants, presumably with varying flavors of 3G (same as the E71)
    * Basically an E71 with a thick candy shell

Beyond that, it looks like the E72 / E63 will see a much-needed boost in terms of camera resolution, possibly even by way of some Carl Zeiss love. From the video it also looks like the size of the space key has been reduced by about 50% to allow the “/” and “@” keys on the left side of the board to be spread out (possibly with volume controls on each key). On the right side, it looks like the control and character keys have been separated as well. Honestly, we would have preferred to keep the wider space key - good luck typing out that email quickly when every other “space” ends up being a “/”.

Nokia hints at new touch-based Communicator

Every so often, Nokia will pop out a brick-like beast of a clamshell smartphone with a full QWERTY keyboard -- a black sheep in Espoo's lineup in every sense of the word. These so-called Communicators even had their own custom Symbian-based operating system, Series 80, until the E90 came around and brought 'em in line with the rest of the S60 crowd. Of course, S60 just took a big leap to the world of touch today, and that means the E90's starting to fall a bit behind -- so what's next? Nokia dropped a little teaser during its webcast today in the form of a stylized touch-based concept bearing strong family ties to the E90 and its ancestors, suggesting S60 5th Edition won't spell doom for the form factor. If it materializes, history suggests it won't be a mainstream device -- but if the real thing can look as good as this render, who knows?

Nokia to announce a new handset on October 13?

Tied to an interesting new viral campaign, Nokia may be announcing another new handset in less than two days. According to Nokia’s new “My Phone Knows Everything About Me” site, something is getting ready to drop this coming Monday, October 13. The Nokia Blog received an invitation sent out by Nokia’s word of mouth PR team, inviting the blog head to a small dinner event that will take place on Monday. The invitation makes reference to N-Gage, though Nokia’s peculiar new viral makes no reference at all to the gaming platform. In fact, the viral leads us to believe that we are simply leading up to a new Nokia campaign of some kind as opposed to a handset announcement. We’re not sure exactly what lead The Nokia Blog to believe this is all tied to a new handset as the phone pictured above from the viral site is the 7610 Supernova. Hey, the more the merrier. Nokia typically hosts larger events when it announces Nseries devices, as opposed to a small dinner party. This would have to be an Nseries handset as it involves N-Gage, so this rumor has a lot less going for it than we would like. Crazier things have happened though and all will be revealed on Monday evening.

Nokia’s first Nseries touchscreen handset to come very soon. N97?

Everyone has kind of expected this, but it’s surely good to hear an official confirmation: Nokia will soon come up with an Nseries touchscreen smartphone.

As reported by Cellpassion, Devinder Kishore, Nokia India’s Director of Marketing, said during an event held in New Delhi: “We will have lots of touchscreen phones coming up, including an N-series device very soon.” This “very soon” might mean that the official unveiling of the full-touch Nseries will happen before the end of 2008. Great news for all Nokia and Symbian fans, indeed.

The name of the first Nseries smartphone to come with a touchscreen display is not known for the moment, but it could very well be Nokia N97. A logical successor to N95 and N96.

Almost certainly, the touchscreen Nseries device will run on the new Symbian S60 5th Edition OS, announced by Nokia at the same time with the 5800 XpressMusic.

Since there is no word yet on how the first touchscreen Nseries looks like, I’ve combined the N96 with the interface of 5800, for a possible preview on the future smartphone:

What do you think, could Nokia come up with something like this? Smiley

Well, regardless of its design, the touchscreen Nseries will probably bring extra features when compared to the 5800 XpressMusic, which is just a mid-end smartphone. Perhaps an 8 MP camera will come with this baby, but let’s better wait for the Finns to say more about it themselves.

Concept Nokia Touchscreen offers liquid-powered tactile feedback

Feeling lazy on a Sunday morning? Take a look at this Nokia touchscreen phone concept and see if it can get your gears going as it did mine.

Though its design kind of resembles an oversized microSD card, make no mistake about it: it’s supposed to be a phone. A touchscreen phone at that, and offers user input via its wide touchscreen display.

According to the maker of this concept, called the Nokia Liquid Phone, users should be able to type and manipulate things on the screen without having to actually look at it. How? Magic, of course! By “using a small pump to fill a substrate beneath the screen that gives our fingers something to feel and press.”

As you can see here, its buttons look as if they have ballooned up from beneath the screen for a user to type on. And that’s exactly what happens every time either of the two on-screen keyboards are brought up (both the alphanumeric and QWERTY keyboard). The plastic outer layer of the screen floats just a little bit upward to form little buttons that we can actually type on, instead of type at.

It’s hard to say when this kind of phone will begin hitting store shelves, or if it will even become possible in the near future. But if it doesn’t, well, it’s got a design that’s quite worthy of being used in one of Nokia’s next touchscreen phones anyway.

Wooden Nokia concept phone goes beyond the drawing board, gets built

Oh sure, LG has teased us with a faux wood cellphone, and Hulger has actually produced one that four people in existence can afford, but this... this is something else. According to the captions in textlad's Flickr pool, Nokia's own eco-team designed and created the object of desire that you see above: an 8-megapixel "handset" that appears to function just fine. We can already tell you this thing isn't coming to market, but we would absolutely love to be proven wrong.
