NBA reviewing Rajon Rondo's late foul on Bulls' Brad Miller

An NBA spokesman confirmed on Wednesday that the league office reviewed Rajon Rondo's foul on Brad Miller with two seconds remaining in overtime but declined to reclassify it as a flagrant-one foul.

In the aftermath of the grueling Game 5 overtime loss, several Bulls, including coach Vinny Del Negro, adamantly stated their belief Rondo's foul was flagrant. If it had been called as such, the Bulls would've retained possession after Miller's two free throws.

Miller also wouldn't have intentionally missed the second free throw after bricking his first because, in theory, Miller could've made the second to make it a one-point deficit. Then the Bulls could've gone for the victory on the ensuing possession.

Though the league's actions won't change the outcome of the game, they are necessary to determine flagrant foul points. If a player accrues a certain number of points during the playoffs, he draws a one-game suspension.

Here is the official NBA rule on picking Miller's replacement free-throw shooter had he not been able to shoot. Obviously dazed by Rondo's foul, Miller missed badly on his first attempt before his intentional miss.

Section II-Shooting of Free Throw

a. The free throw(s) awarded because of a personal foul shall be attempted by the offended player.

EXCEPTIONS:

(1) If the offended player is injured or is ejected from the game and cannot attempt the awarded free throw(s), the opposing coach shall select, from his opponent's bench, the player who will replace the injured player. That player will attempt the free throw(s) and the injured player will not be permitted to re-enter the game. The substitute must remain in the game until the next dead ball.

EXCEPTION

Rule 3-Section V-e

(2) If the offended player is injured and unable to attempt the awarded free throw(s) due to any unsportsmanlike act, his coach may designate any eligible member of the squad to attempt the free throw(s). The injured player will be permitted to re-enter the game.

Since Rondo's foul wasn't called a flagrant, it wouldn't have been considered an unsportsmanlike act and thus Celtics coach Doc Rivers would've chosen Miller's replacement. If it had been called a flagrant, Del Negro could've picked Miller's replacement.

The NBA just reported that Kirk Hinrich will be suspended one game for an unnatural basketball act. Wildly spinning out of bounds in the way of an opposing player will not be tolerated.

Da nije Allena, Boston bi ubacio tačno 28 poena. Krenulo ga je strašno, naljutio se.
