Kid sigurno u Dalasu

Dalas pao u Nju Orleansu, novi poraz Bostona

rezultati:

Toronto Reptors – Orlando Medžik 127:110
Filadelfija 76’s – Nju Jork Niks 124:84
Indijana Pejsers – Klivlend Kavalirs 97:106
Nju Džerzi Nets – Čikago Buls 110:102 (produžetak)
Milvoki Baks – Detroit Pistons 103:98
Nju Orleans Hornets – Dalas Maveriks 104:93
Finiks Sans – LA Lejkers 124:130
Sakramento Kings – Atlanta Houks 119:107
LA Klipers – Memfis Grizlis 100:86
Golden Stejt Voriors – Boston Seltiks 119:117

After the most fervent trade season in the NBA in recent memory that witnessed two of the best players of their generation (Shaquille O’Neal and Jason Kidd) dump their ailing girlfriends back East for a shot at the hot chick out West, not to mention a couple of All-Stars (Shawn Marion and Pau Gasol) changing addresses, it’s time to analyze all 30 NBA teams for the moves they made (or didn’t make, or should have made) before the deadline.

ATLANTA HAWKS
Trades: Acquired Mike Bibby from the Sacramento Kings in exchange for Anthony Johnson,Tyronn Lue, Shelden Williams, Lorenzen Wright and a 2008 second round draft pick.

Analysis: The Hawks get a career 17-points, six-assist guy and more important, somebody with big-game experience to lead a crew of young upstarts. While Bibby isn’t the prototypical pass-first point guard to set up guys like Joe Johnson and Josh Smith before calling his own number, he’s definitely an upgrade from Johnson and Lue and should be somebody who Acie Law can learn from. Moving Williams before his next contract and getting Wright’s deal off the books were smart moves too because Al Horford is clearly the future at the four.

BOSTON CELTICS
Trades: None.

Analysis: When you have the best record in the league, it’s easy to think “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” but there’s always room for improvement. While rookie Glen Davis has proved to be a viable backup to Kendrick Perkins at the five, Gabe Pruitt’s development as Rajon Rondo’s sub hasn’t progressed quite so quickly. It would have been great to see Boston pick up a veteran guard hungry for a ring to help them on their postseason quest. Then again, this team’s “Ubuntu” chemistry could be damaged if it brought in a big personality like Sam Cassell, so sometimes no move is the best move.

CHARLOTTE BOBCATS
Trades: Acquired Nazr Mohammed from Detroit in exchange for Primoz Brezec and Walter Herrmann.

Analysis: I still don’t get this move, other than for the reason that with Emeka Okafor healthy this year and the additions of front court players Jared Dudley, Jermareo Davidson and Ryan Hollins, there were too many big men around so Charlotte dumped two for one to cut the numbers down. The Bobcats have some young pieces they could have made to try to make a playoff push this season, but they’re better off giving it a shot next year and see how they do with a healthy Adam Morrison and Sean May.

CHICAGO BULLS
Trades: Acquired Larry Hughes, Drew Gooden, Shannon Brown and Cedric Simmons from the Cleveland Cavaliers for Ben Wallace, Joe Smith, Adrian Griffin and a 2009 second round draft pick.

Analysis: Everybody knew this team needed a low-post scorer to free up the pressure on their talented wings, but the trade never happened. Instead, Chicago waited until it was 11 games under .500 and swapped Wallace’s big contract for Hughes’ big contract, but did get Gooden’s 11 points and eight rebounds averages out of the deal, even though he scores more off of his mid-range jumper than his low post moves. The other “trade” they pulled off six weeks ago, replacing Scott Skiles with Jim Boylan, has been somewhat successful as Chicago has a 12-16 record under their interim coach.

CLEVELAND CAVALIERS
Trades: Acquired Ben Wallace, Joe Smith and a 2009 second round draft pick from the Chicago Bulls and Wally Szczerbiak and Delonte West from the Seattle SuperSonics for Larry Hughes, Drew Gooden, Donyell Marshall, Cedric Simmons, Ira Newble and Shannon Brown.

Analysis: After LeBron James openly lobbied for management to figure out a way to get Jason Kidd, his Cavs teammates had to feel like Heidi from The Hills Season Two when she saw Spencer kicking it to girls right in front of her at Les Deux. Now James gets some defensive help in Big Ben and a couple of shooters in Wally and Delonte. This is a huge deal just by the fact that it involves three teams and 11 players, but it still leaves the Cavs a step behind the Pistons the Celtics in the East (on paper) with just 28 games left to get team chemistry right before the playoffs.

DALLAS MAVERICKS
Trades: Acquired Jason Kidd, Malik Allen and Antoine Wright from the New Jersey Nets for Devin Harris, DeSagana Diop, Trenton Hassell, Maurice Ager and Keith Van Horn.

Analysis: This move has as many downs as it has ups. It really all depends on who Dallas faces in the playoffs. If they play a team like Phoenix or Golden State, having a top-flight game pacer like Kidd will allow them to get into their offense no matter what the other team is doing. If they draw the Spurs, they’ll miss Harris’ quickness defending Tony Parker and Diop’s wide body manning Tim Duncan. They needed to make this move though. You don’t pass up a chance to combine your best player, Dirk Nowitzki, just one year removed from being named the league’s MVP, with the point guard who has the best court vision since Magic Johnson.

DENVER NUGGETS
Trades: Acquired Taurean Green from the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for Von Wafer.

Analysis: Heading into the season with lofty expectations of winning 60 games, the Nuggets only have the eighth best record in the West today. Carmelo Anthony, Allen Iverson and Marcus Camby may be two All-Stars and the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, but Denver has been more style than substance this year. There were rumors that the Nuggets were after Ron Artest or Mike Miller to try to match the huge deals done by Phoenix, Dallas and L.A., but instead their deadline move secured a third-string point guard.

DETROIT PISTONS
Trades: Acquired Primoz Brezec and Walter Herrmann from the Charlotte Bobcats in exchange for Nazr Mohammed; Acquired Juan Dixon from the Toronto Raptors for Primoz Brezec and cash considerations.

Analysis: The Charlotte trade was pretty inconsequential, but Hermann isn’t a bad guy to have coming off the bench to give your team a different look in a seven-game series. Dixon is a nice deadline move, you can never have too many guys who can shoot the ball. As long as the Pistons have Chauncey Billups, Rasheed Wallace, Rip Hamilton and Tayshaun Prince healthy, it doesn’t really matter who else they’re suiting up – those four and Hillary Clinton can get you to the Eastern Conference Finals. I’m fine with Joe Dumars sitting on what he’s got. This is already a deep team with Rodney Stuckey and Jason Maxiell getting better by the day.

GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS
Trades: None.

Analysis: No trades for a team that’s sitting on some unused young talent (Brandon Wright, Patrick O’Bryant) and wouldn’t be in the playoffs if the postseason started today. I don’t get it. I also don’t understand the Chris Webber signing and I don’t know if I ever will. Webber is putting up 4.4 points and 3.0 rebounds in 15.4 minutes per game. He seems like a square peg trying to fit in a round hole, although he might prove useful against some of the bigs in the West if Golden State can eke into the playoffs.

HOUSTON ROCKETS
Trades: Acquired Bobby Jackson from the New Orleans Hornets for Bonzi Wells and Mike James; Acquired Gerald Green from the Minnesota Timberwolves for Kirk Snyder, a 2010 second-round draft pick and cash considerations.

Analysis: I guess Houston thought that Carl Landry could pick up Bonzi’s rebounding and Luther Head could make up for his scoring so getting a legit backup point in Bobby Jackson was more important than keeping the often tempestuous Wells around. I don’t like giving up on talent and admitting that the Mike James experiment was a bad idea, but sometimes less is more. Gerald Green gets a pitch right down the middle with the count at 0-2.

INDIANA PACERS
Trades: None.

Analysis: When I was a kid playing Contra on the old, original Nintendo Entertainment System and it froze on me, it was time to hit the reset button. Same thing for Larry Bird and the Indiana Pacers. All of the Jermaine O’Neal for Vince Carter rumors proved to be just that – rumors.

L.A. CLIPPERS
Trades: None.

Analysis: Sort of like the Bobcats, you can’t expect the Clippers to work miracles with Elton Brand and Shaun Livingston injured. Maybe they could have shopped Corey Maggette, Cuttino Mobley or Cassell to a contender for a draft pick or two, but this wasn’t the right year for them to go crazy making deals.

L.A. LAKERS
Trades: Acquired Pau Gasol and a second round draft choice in 2010 from the Memphis Grizzlies for Kwame Brown, Javaris Crittenton, Aaron McKie, the draft rights to Marc Gasol and first round picks in 2008 and 2010; Acquired Trevor Ariza from the Orlando Magic for Brian Cook and Maurice Evans.

Analysis: The Lakers went from being a good team featuring the best player in the league and one of the deepest benches, to one of the five teams most ready to win a ring. Getting Gasol (who Hubie Brown pronounced as “Ga-Sall” and “Ga-Soul” in the same sentence last night) gives them the inside presence they need to win games and save their seeding while Andrew Bynum is out. If Bynum returns healthy, they have the most talented starting lineup in the West. Ariza was a nice pickup at the time, but he’s since missed a chunk of time with a broken foot.

MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES
Trades: Acquired Kwame Brown, Javaris Crittenton, Aaron McKie, the draft rights to Marc Gasol and first round picks in 2008 and 2010 from the L.A. Lakers for Pau Gasol and a second round draft choice in 2010; Acquired Marcus Vinicius, the rights to Malick Badiane and cash considerations in exchange for the rights to Sergei Lishouk.

Analysis: It’s almost unimaginable now to think back to the 2005-06 season when the Grizzlies were the No. 5 seed in the Western Conference Playoffs. Since then, they’ve deconstructed their team like a kid dropping his book bag on his little brother’s Lego castle. Giving up Gasol changed the competitive balance of the season.

MIAMI HEAT
Trades: Acquired Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks from the Phoenix Suns for Shaquille O’Neal.

Analysis: The big fella grew tired of Miami and needed a change of scenery. Shawn Marion craved the spotlight and that wasn’t happening in Phoenix with Steve Nash and Amare Stoudemire occupying the scene. Seems like a pretty fair trade, no? Sure, a motivated Shaq and a healthy Dwyane Wade gives you an automatic championship contender, but what if those days were over? Marion gives Wade an athletic running mate for the time being, and that duo might be enough to compete for a lower rung playoff spot in the East next season.

MILWAUKEE BUCKS
Trades: None.

Analysis: This team needed to be shaken up. I’m not sure how, but it just needed a change. Beating the Pistons last night might have given Larry Harris a false sense of how good this group is.

MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES
Trades: Acquired Kirk Snyder, a 2010 second-round draft pick and cash considerations from the Houston Rockets for Gerald Green.

Analysis: Kevin McHale, still hungover from the KG deal in the off season, was coaxed into a little hair of the dog that bit him by Rockets GM Daryl Morey. Actually, I don’t really know how the deal went down, but the Timberwolves were able to ship one athletic wing buried at the end of the bench in Minnesota for an athletic wing buried at the end of the bench in Houston, plus they got a draft pick and some money out of it. Sounds like one of those infomercials where they keep throwing in extra knives to sweeten the deal.

NEW JERSEY NETS
Trades: Acquire Devin Harris, DeSagana Diop, Trenton Hassell, Maurice Ager and Keith Van Horn from the Dallas Mavericks for Jason Kidd, Malik Allen and Antoine Wright; Acquired Stromile Swift from the Memphis Grizzlies for Jason Collins.

Analysis: When your best player demands a trade, what can you do? New Jersey still has Vince Carter, Richard Jefferson, Sean Williams, Marcus Williams and Boki Nachbar to team with Harris and Diop meaning that they still should be a playoff team in the East.

NEW ORLEANS HORNETS
Trades: Acquired Bonzi Wells, Mike James and cash considerations from the Houston Rockets for Bobby Jackson, Adam Haluska, Marcus Vinicius and a 2008 second round pick.

Analysis: Despite having the best record in the West at the All-Star break, the knock against the Hornets was that their bench was thinner Jesse Camp (Google him, you won’t be let down.) With Jannero Pargo stepping up as Chris Paul’s backup, Jackson was expendable. In return, New Orleans picked up Wells and James, two proven scorers who will give Byron Scott’s reserve unit some pop.

NEW YORK KNICKS
Trades: None.

Analysis: What’s there left to say?

ORLANDO MAGIC
Trades: Acquired Brian Cook and guard Maurice Evans from the Los Angeles Lakers for Trevor Ariza.

Analysis: The Magic made their big splash in the summer when they picked up Rashard Lewis. It would have been nice to add another low post defender to help out Dwight Howard, but even without a move, the Magic still should be one of the top four teams in the East.

PHILADELPHIA 76ERS
Trades: Acquired Gordan Giricek and a protected first-round pick from the Utah Jazz for Kyle Korver.

Analysis: The best thing this deal did for Philly is find some more minutes in the rotation for rookie sensation Thaddeus Young. Andre Miller’s name was mentioned in countless trade scenarios since he landed on the 76ers in the Allen Iverson trade, but Ed Stefanski should be commended for not making a move just to make a move. The Sixers are 8-3 over their last 11 games and would be the eighth seed if the playoffs started today.

PHOENIX SUNS
Trades: Acquired Shaquille O’Neal from the Miami Heat for Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks.

Analysis: On one hand you can say that the Suns were only a suspension or two away from The Finals last year, on the other you can lament that they lost Kurt Thomas and there’s no way they could beat the Spurs in a playoff series with just Amare Stoudemire playing interior defense. Enter Shaquille O’Neal. I see the addition of Shaq as a counter move purely to combat with San Antonio in the playoffs. Shaq doesn’t just give them a player, he gives them the option to play a whole different half-court style.

PORTLAND TRAIL BLAZERS
Trades: Acquired Von Wafer from the Denver Nuggets in exchange for Taurean Green.

Analysis: The most intriguing part of the Trail Blazers trading a 2007 second round pick averaging 2.1 points per game for a 2005 second-round pick averaging 1.3 points per game is what number Wafer will choose since his No. 22 belongs to Clyde Drexler in Portland. (This just in: He'll wear No. 24.)

SACRAMENTO KINGS
Trades: Acquired Anthony Johnson, Tyronn Lue, Shelden Williams, Lorenzen Wright and a 2008 second round draft pick from the Sacramento Kings for Mike Bibby.

Analysis: Parting ways with Bibby marks the end of an era for Kings fan who reveled in the Chris Webber, Vlade Divac, Jason Williams, Peja Stojakovic and Bibby glory days. Other than the second round pick, Shelden is the only player in the bunch that figures to have a shot at joining Kevin Martin at the core of Reggie Theus’ rebuilding efforts.

SAN ANTONIO SPURS
Trades: Acquired Kurt Thomas from the Seattle SuperSonics in exchange for Francisco Elson, Brent Barry and a 2009 first-round draft pick.

Analysis: Sam Presti must have felt some kind of loyalty towards Spurs GM R.C. Buford for giving him his first job in the NBA. The reigning champs load up with a smart veteran who is as much as a locker room leader as he is a crafty low-post defender. The loss of Barry’s outside touch was already accounted for when San Antonio added lefty gunner Damon Stoudamire into the fold a few weeks ago. This move doesn’t have the gravitas as the Suns getting Shaq or the Mavs getting Kidd, but you watch, Thomas will end up winning them a playoff game or two.

SEATTLE SUPERSONICS
Trades: Acquired Francisco Elson, Brent Barry and a 2009 first-round draft pick from the San Antonio Spurs for Kurt Thomas; Acquired Ira Newble and Donyell Marshall from the Cleveland Cavaliers and Adrian Griffin from the Chicago Bulls for Wally Szczerbiak and Delonte West.

Analysis: The Sonics bring back a fan-favorite in Barry and a young, athletic player in Elson. The point guard shuffle becomes a little less jumbled with West leaving and Luke Ridnour stepping into the backup role for Earl Watson. However, it seems both moves were done to give the Seattle brass more flexibility under the salary cap.

TORONTO RAPTORS
Trades: Acquired Primoz Brezec and cash considerations from the Detroit Pistons for Juan Dixon.

Analysis: Carlos Delfino’s consistent scoring off the bench diminished Dixon’s value in Toronto and the Raptors were able to pick up a legit 7-footer and some money in the process. When given PT, Brezec averaged 12.7 points and 6.5 rebounds over the course of the 2004-05 and ’05-06 seasons for the Bobcats.

UTAH JAZZ
Trades: Acquired Kyle Korver from the Philadelphia 76ers for Gordan Giricek and a protected first-round pick.

Analysis: All you need to know is that the Jazz are 19-3 since pulling the trigger on this deal on December 29. It’s not all because of Korver (Mehmet Okur got healthy around the same time), but having another shooter opening up the floor for Deron Williams and Carlos Boozer to play the two-man game has certainly helped.

WASHINGTON WIZARDS
Trades: None.

Analysis: The Wizards have lost nine out of their last 10 games, but when (and if) Gilbert Arenas, Caron Butler and Etan Thomas make their comebacks it will have just as big an impact as Washington could have made if it entered into the trade deadline gauntlet.

Ostali rezultati:
Šarlot – Sakramento 115:116 (produžetak)
Orlando – Filadelfija 115:99
Njujork – Toronto 103:99
Detroit – Milvoki 127:100
Golden Stejt – Atlanta 110:117
Sijetl – Portland 99:87
LA Klipers – Juta 114:104
