On to the NBA Draft. I will make no bones about it: Running around all over the place the last week or so, I've barely paid attention to all the Draft gossip. I don't know who wants whom, or why they do or don't. And from what I've read the last two days, nobody has any idea what's going to happen. (And yes, we'll be printing out the mock drafts and seeing how everyone does.)

So I thought what we'd do is go through and just project which players each team should pick, based on need and skill. We'll do the first 10 teams today and the rest of them on Monday and Tuesday...

1. Toronto: What don't they need? A starting power forward and center. Everywhere else, though, they can use what they can get. I don't know who they'll pick, but if they pass on Bargnani, seeing as how they just hired the Italian exec that had originally signed Bargnani as a kid, I think it's a pretty damning statement, that they don't think he can cut it. That said, I don't think they'll pass on him. If all the stuff I've heard about him is true, he's going to be a good NBA player for a really long time.

2. Chicago (via NYK): The Bulls have a great young core, and Isiah Thomas giving them this pick is really unbelievable. The thing is, they don't really need to be developing anyone the next few years. If they draft Tyrus Thomas, for example, who needs a year or so to get his jumper straight, would Scott Skiles have the patience to throw him out there? That's why I think they should take LaMarcus Aldridge. He's the most polished of the available big guys, and together with Tyson Chandler they could chew up a lot of rebounds and minutes.

3. Charlotte: With MJ running things now, should we look at his infamous 2001 Draft with the Wizards for clues? Back then he went for the best available talent -- Kwame Brown -- and thought he could develop him into a franchise player. And we all know how that worked out. I think Jordan remembers that and instead takes someone who can play now and fills a need. And that player should be Brandon Roy.

4. Portland: Ah, Portland. Of course they now want JJ Redick, since he got arrested two weeks ago. Kidding! Everyone in the world thinks the Blazers are going to take local guy Adam Morrison, and I tend to think he's the best thing for them. He'll show Darius Miles what this "work ethic" thing is all about, and he'll do his work for the diabetic community, finally giving Portland someone who's actually interesting in community service. I also think Nate McMillan will be able to get the best out of Morrison.

5. Atlanta: Oh, boy. Remember like three weeks ago when I said I'd heard that Shelden Williams had a promise from a team in the Top 5? I even hinted that it was going to be Atlanta. Well, the rest of the world finally caught on. I kind of understand where Billy Knight is coming from here, because other than Zaza Pachulia last season, the Hawks got zip from their interior guys -- our other best interior players were Josh Smith and Al Harrington. That said, if they want the best interior player available, why would they draft Shelden Williams? I'd take Aldridge (if he's around) or Ty Thomas (my choice). For a franchise that keeps on telling us they're rebuilding and it's going to take time, why would they draft a guy that's pretty much developed?

6. Minnesota: Here's where things get interesting. For all the talk about the big guys that could be left, doesn't Minnesota need a point guard? A good point guard? Unless they've got a trade for Steph in the works, right here I'd draft Marcus Williams, and would give KG a running mate for the next few years.

7. Boston: Another team that needs some of everything. I'd guess they'd be interested in Marcus if he's available, but if I was the Celts the guy I'd want is Patrick O'Bryant. He's a legit seven-footer, and he's got an Irish last name.

8. Houston: Randy Foye. He's big, he's tough, and he seems like a terrific Van Gundy-type player. I saw him play in person during the NCAAs two years ago and I watched him on TV a lot, and I came away really impressed.

9. Golden State: They don't really need him, but if Rudy Gay is sitting here at the nine spot, they have to take him. I never really warmed to him during the season -- always thought he was too laid back and passive -- but he could easily unseat Mike "Funny Face" Dunleavy and get major minutes with this exciting, young team.

10. Seattle: Here's where I think Shelden Williams is a great fit. He's boring in that Rashard Lewis/Ray Allen way, and Bob Hill and his hair can get minutes from his right now, creating an extremely homely three-headed center rotation of Williams, Swift and Petro.

So that's how I think it should go. We'll find out how it shakes out Wednesday, and I'm anticipating an email late Wednesday afternoon from Chad Ford with his final projected Draft, which he sends to me annually.
