City se razbacuje novcem: Drogba na meti arapa

Manchester City nastavlja s potragom za vrhunskim nogometašima. Novi na listi želja je napadač Chelseaja za kojeg britanski mediji pretpostavljaju da košta oko 15 milijuna eura. No, ako Drogba ode u City, u drugom bi smjeru treba krenuti Robinho. Odlazak Drogbe moguća je opcija jer Scolari ga baš i ne obožava, no Robinha u Chelseaju je nešto teže zamisliti iako ga brazilski trener obožava. City ga ne želi pustiti ni po koju cijenu i oko njega namjerava složiti momčad za respekt.

MANCHESTER CITY are trying to build a palace on quicksand.
But without the right foundations, the whole thing will come crashing down.
I hear the club’s billionaire owners are still hell-bent on making a mega-signing before the close of the transfer window despite being so publicly rejected by Kaka.
But it is time to stop playing Dream Team. Forget Kaka, Robinho, Drogba and Veloso. What they desperately need right now is spirit, fight, leadership and backbone.
It’s all about timing — there is a time to buy the shiny, sparkly players that add the final coat of gloss to your palace.
But this is not the right time for City. A season that started with everyone saying ‘we can make the top six,’ then slid to ‘we’ll settle for a top 12 finish’ and is now in danger of plunging into ‘we’re fighting relegation’.
When Roman Abramovich bought Chelsea there wasn’t a stampede of category A celeb stars suddenly coming through the doors. Instead, Chelsea stuck to basics. They did the simple stuff — find a solid keeper, solid centre-backs, midfielders and strikers. It wasn’t rocket science and they didn’t get blinded by all the money.
Unfortuately, City’s owners don’t seem so astute. Mark Hughes has wisely focused on the players he thinks can deal with a crisis — like Craig Bellamy — but the club’s owners want to be sexier than that. They want to razzle dazzle.
If they really must buy superstars then the men they should be looking at are Spanish internationals Marcos Senna and Carles Puyol.
These are top-drawer players who will bring the qualities City need — leadership, strength, guts, never-say-die.
They are in sharp contrast to a player like Robinho who, by running off to Brazil without permission, is the embodiment of what concerns me about City. As soon as the problems mount, and everyone looks for someone to blame, they’re off.
That’s no good for City.
Senna and Puyol might not be the names to set Arabian blood pulsing, but what a difference they could make to a team leaking goals.
Senna was Spain’s best player in last year’s European Championship triumph and, even at 32, the Villarreal holding midfielder has at least two more years in his legs.
Puyol is brilliant at right-back or centre-half, two areas where City are in desperate need of strengthening.
It would take a fortune to sign him from Barcelona but money is no object for City, as we found out with their proposals to sign Kaka.
The problem is Puyol is captain of arguably the best team in Europe. Why would he want to swap that for a side who might not even be in the Premier League next season?
Huge wages are not enough to sign players of this stature. They demand money AND success. Until City are a top-four team, world stars will always turn their noses up at them.
But the Arab owners want to make a huge impact NOW.
That is the dilemma facing Mark Hughes. He’s a level-headed guy and I’m sure he knows what needs to be done.
But how can he say ‘no’ when he’s asked if he would like to sign Kaka?
Right now, City need a goalkeeper, a right-back, strong midfielders and a centre-half.
To be fair to Sheikh Mansour, he has given Hughes plenty of financial backing to sign the likes of Nigel De Jong, Wayne Bridge and Bellamy the solid players City need to get out of trouble.
If he can get Shay Given, that will be another good buy.
But Mark has already spent £120m this season. Sooner or later the owners will want to see some return on that.
And City seem to have a worrying surfeit of disgruntled imports. The likes of Jo, Elano, Zabaleta, Garrido, Caceido, Kompany did not sign up to sit on the bench. The problem is with every new signing, the list of malcontents grows longer.
But Hughes has got to stay strong and do the job his way.
Everyone in football wants Mark to succeed at City. We desperately need a British boss to prove he can compete at the very highest level.
The fear is that it might not be too long before Sheikh Mansour wants a superstar foreign coach to go with all his Fantasy League players.

MANCHESTER CITY last night launched a £19million raid for Sporting Lisbon star Miguel Veloso. The Portugal midfielder, 22, has been a long-term target for Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson. City are bidding to snatch the player from under their bitter rivals’ noses but the Eastlands club may have to match Veloso’s get-out clause of £28m. A source close to Veloso said: “We know City have made an offer and the club are considering it. “It all depends on whether Sporting will demand City pay the get-out clause of the player.”

Manchester City have had a fairly inconsistent first half of the current English Premier League season, as they sit in 11th spot, with just 25 points recorded from 21 matches. They are a meagre four points clear of the relegation zone, which has heaped the pressure on the manager, Mark Hughes, in particular, who could be on his way out in the near future if the club’s owners find a suitable replacement. According to the latest reports from Tuttomercatoweb, City have stepped up their interest in the former Inter Milan boss Roberto Mancini, and it is rumoured that he could join the English club at the completion of the season. The reports go on to indicate that the former coach was contacted by the Sky Blues just days ago, and that an offer has officially been made. However, Mancini has briefly commented on the alleged interest in him and, although not denying the claims, has stated that he is going to leave his options open for now. Chelsea and Arsenal are two other clubs who have previously expressed interest in Mancini, and he said, “I need some time to ponder my future, before making any significant decisions.” The former Nerazzurri coach has been out of work since his sacking in May, and he is looking for a way back into football. Mancini has been using his free time recently to learn the English language, which would suggest that he is on the verge of joining a Premier League club.

UK tabloid The Sun claims that Manchester City have offered Didier Drogba a host of incentives, fiscal and otherwise, to leave Chelsea this month. It is thought that the Sky Blues are prepared to hand the Ivorian striker, who currently earns £90,000 per week at Stamford Bridge, a four-and-a-half-year contract and double his wages. Such promises would prove tempting to a 30-year-old whose future with the Blues has become increasingly uncertain over the past few weeks. But that's not all, as it is believed Drogba is contemplating the switch because he is confident that Jose Mourinho, his former mentor at Chelsea, will take charge at Eastlands in the summer. Mourinho, currently the coach of Inter Milan, has stated in the past that he would consider a return to England, and the richest club in the world seems the most likely destination. The City owners have continually come out in support of Mark Hughes, but the embattled manager will have to turn things around fast if he wishes to remain in the Citizens hot-seat. Roberto Mancini, the ex-Inter boss, has also been linked with the post.

Robinjo optužen za silovanje

Brazilac Robinjo ponovo je u centru pažnje ostrvskih medija i to zbog optužbi za silovanje devojke u noćnom klubu!

Napadač Mančester sitija priveden je i saslušan zbog sumnji da je 14. januara silovao jednu studentkinju u klubu u Lidsu, nakon čega je pušten uz kauciju, prenose britanski mediji.

Studentkinja je ispričala policiji da je izašla sa prijateljicama u klub, poznat kao mesto okupljanja poznatih fudbalera, a silovanje se navodno desilo posle ponoći.

Ona nije odmah zatražila pomoć policije već je silovanje prijavila sledeći dan, nakon čega je podvrgnuta medicinskim pregledima, a policija je zaplenila i snimke kamera za video-nadzor kluba.

Robinjov portparol Kris Natanijel saopštio je da je Brazilac priveden, ali i demantovao je sve optužbe protiv zvezde Mančester sitija.

"Možemo da potvrdimo da je Robinjo saslušan u policiji u okviru istrage. On odbacuje sve optužbe za krivično delo i sa zadovoljstvom će sarađivati sa policijom ako bude potrebno", saopštio je Natanijel na Robinjovom zvaničnom sajtu.

Robinjo, koji je pre osam dana iznenada napustio trening kamp Mančester sitija na Tenerifima i otišao u rodni Brazil zbog, kako je rekao, porodičnih razloga, vratio se treninzima kluba.

"Uverio sam ljude u klubu da sam morao u Brazil iz porodičnih razloga. Vratio sam se i nadam se da ćemo uskoro zaključiti tu temu", rekao je Robinjo.

Iako "građani" nisu hteli da saopšte koliko je Robinjo kažnjen zbog kršenja klupske discipline, mediji su iskopali informaciju da će Brazilac u kasu Sitija morati da stavi 214.000 evra.
