Leeds United manager Gary McAllister has given a trial to Ivory Coast striker Georges Ba.

The 29-year-old has spent most of his career in France having played for the likes of Nice, Montpellier, Le Mans and Troyes.

McAllister has already seen the striker in action after he played 81 minutes of Leeds' reserves clash with Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday.

Ba failed to find the back of the net before being replaced by youngster Tom Elliott late on.

Former Stockport County man Anthony Elding, who recently opened his Leeds account in their 2-1 defeat to Cheltenham, grabbed both goals in a 2-2 draw.

Although McAllister recently swooped for Dougie Freedman the former Whites captain may well opt to hand Ba a deal to further strengthen his options between now and the end of the season.

Striker Jermaine Beckford is setting his sights on ending the season as League One's leading goalscorer.

Becks moved onto 19 for the season on Saturday when his brace proved enough to see off Walsall at Elland Road.

Swansea striker Jason Scotland has 21 league goals to his name - 26 in all competitions - and the race is hotting up to see who will end the season as League One's top goalscorer.

Speaking after the Walsall game, Jermaine said: "It had been five games without a goal so I'm delighted to get back to scoring ways because I'm chasing Jason Scotland at the top of the charts."

United boss Gary McAllister was equally delighted to see his main marksman return to goalscoring ways.

"I was pleased for Jermaine on Saturday because I saw what I've been hoping to see," said the boss.

"He showed bottle and quality with both of his goals. He's a player who can excite and he's got to push on now."

The striker has profited from the arrival of loan man Dougie Freedman from Crystal Palace. Freedman scored twice himself at Port Vale two weeks ago and the Scot is proving a big influence on United's other strikers.

"All the experience Dougie brings to the team is excellent," added Jermaine. "It's great to have him around and we're pleased to have him here."

United boss McAllister was also quick to praise the influence of his loan striker, and says that all his front men will have a part to play in the final push for the Play-Offs.

"He brings something different," he said. "He's got guile and experience, and he's brought all four strikers together.

"If we're going to get there, it's going to be the four of them. They all have to contribute, not just the two who have the shirt.

"I would have enjoyed playing with Dougie. It was a big decision for him to come here. He's got four young kids and it's a big wrench for him, but he's come and he's committed.

"We'll pay attention to his situation and we'll make it work."
