One club man Gary Kelly was presented with a crystal cut vase following the clash with Ipswich in recognition of his 16 years with the club.

Gary, who is the eighth all-time leading appearance maker with 531, was presented with the vase by club legends Allan Clarke, Paul Reaney, Mick Jones, and Frank Worthington.

United boss Dennis Wise is vowing to lead United's recovery bid after relegation was all but confirmed at Elland Road on Saturday.

With nearest rivals Hull City wining at Cardiff, a 1-1 draw against Ipswich wasn't enough for United and League One football now beckons, barring a miracle next weekend.

"Everyone knows it's near impossible, there's eight goals difference," conceded the boss. "We need to win 5-0 and they need to lose 4-0.

"It's a difficult situation, but the whole situation is difficult and we're all disapapointed. Saturday was a sad day.

"It takes a while to get things sorted and we either didn't have enouigh time or didn't do it quick enough.

"I take full responsibility - I'm not going to start blaming other people.

"We came here to keep this football club up and we haven't done it so I've got to hold my hands up.

"What's happened has happened and we haven't been good enough.

"I'm not here to make excuses. I've got to make it work and I will make it work. I'll be here next year and there's a lot needs to be changed.

"I'll sit down with the chairman and discuss the whole situation.

"We will bounce back. I'm here to make it successful, that's what I want to do.

"Some people will accept me, some won't, but I'm here to do a job and I'll do my utmost to make this club successful."

Leeds veteran Kelly set to retire

eeds United stalwart Gary Kelly is to retire at the end of the season.

Kelly, 32, has spent his entire career at Elland Road and has played 531 games for the club after making his debut in the title-winning season of 1991/92.

The former Republic of Ireland defender was also in the Leeds side that reached the 2001 Champions League semi-finals.

He will hang up his boots after Sunday's game with Derby - which, barring a mathematical miracle, will see Leeds relegated to League One.

Leeds will go down for the second time in three seasons unless they score a hatful of goals to beat Derby and Hull City lose at home to Plymouth.

Kelly was presented with a crystal-cut vase after Saturday's draw with Ipswich to mark his 16 years with the club.

He has not made a first-team appearance for Leeds since November 2006.

Relegated Leeds in administration

Leeds United have been relegated to League One after being deducted 10 points for going into administration.

The 10-point deduction - in accordance with Football League rules - means Leeds will finish the season at the bottom of the Championship.

However, they will not lose any points for the start of their first season in League One in August.

Administrator KPMG has already agreed to sell the club to a newly-formed company led by chairman Ken Bates.
A KPMG statement said: "Shortly after their appointment the joint administrators agreed to sell the business and its assets to a newly formed company.

"This company is called Leeds United Football Club Limited, the directors of which are Ken Bates, Shaun Harvey and Mark Taylor.
"The sale of the club is subject to approval by its creditors, via a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA).

"The creditors' meeting, to consider the CVA, will be held before the end of May. The Football League will also need to approve the sale."

Former Chelsea chairman Bates hailed a new era for the club - but also criticised the old regime for incurring huge debts.

"The action taken brings to an end the financial legacy left by others that we have spent millions of pounds trying to settle," said Bates.

"But the important thing now is not to view this as the end, but the beginning of a new era.

"The financial burden of the past finally pushed the club into administration following the issuing of a winding up petition by HM Revenue & Customs, who will be one of the company's major creditors.

"The other parties who will suffer the biggest financial loss are institutions from which the board arranged funding: Astor Investment Holdings, Krato Trust and Forward Sports Fund who collectively will lose in excess of £22m."
The Football League has confirmed Leeds' 10-point deduction and expressed its disappointment.

"Following confirmation that Leeds United have obtained an administration order, the Football League can confirm that the club has been deducted 10 points from its 2006/07 tally," said head of communications John Nagle.

"Given the recent reduction in the numbers of clubs resorting to formal insolvency proceedings, it is disappointing that Leeds United have had to seek the protection of an administration order.

"Discussions have already begun aimed at establishing how Leeds United intend exiting administration.

"This will have to include complying with the League's insolvency policy under which all 'football debts' must be settled in full."

KPMG revealed Leeds had debts "totalling approximately £35m, with a cash injection of approximately £10m required to continue trading".

Leeds ispao u treću ligu i upao u financijsku krizu

LEEDS UNITED, nekada jedan od najjačih engleskih klubova, trostruki osvajač naslova prvaka Engleske, prije samo šest godina igrao je u polufinalu Lige prvaka protiv španjolske Valencije, a danas je na rubu bankrota, nakon što je ispao u treću englesku ligu.

U sezoni 03/04. Leeds je ispao iz elitne engleske Premier lige u Championship, a nakon nekoliko godina osrednjih rezultata, ove je sezone ispao u League one, odnosno treću englesku ligu.

Od sljedeće sezone Leeds će, po prvi puta u svojoj 88-godišnjoj povijesti, biti član trećeg razreda engleskog nogometa. Pod uvjetom da prije toga ne bankrotiraju.

Niža liga donosi manji broj posjetitelja, sponzora, dakle, manje novca. Situacija je to na koju klub s Elland Roada, desetog najvećeg stadiona u Engleskoj, nije navikao, jer su prije ispadanja u drugu ligu proveli 16 uzastopnih sezona u Premiershipu.

Iako čelnici kluba odbijaju komentirati sve češća nagađanja o kritičnoj financijskoj situaciji u klubu, u izjavi engleskim medijima izvršni je direktor Leedsa, Simon Harvey, zamolio sve potencijalne sponzore da se jave klubu.

"Svi zainteresirani za sponzoriranje kluba trebali bi nam se javiti.", rekao je Harvey, odbivši direktno komentirati financijsku situaciju kluba, iako vapaj za sponzorima govori sasvim dovoljno.
